  1. Think we hear anything this week on TJD/Race/Geronimo/Duncomb?

    2022-23 IUBB Schedule

As long as next season, IU has a more difficult non-conference reschedule and a winning conference record, I suspect we’ll be pleased where they are hopefully seeded in the NCAAt.

(2023) - C Xavier Booker to Michigan State

If he’s recruiting Reneau this week or next week, I’m good with him skipping the state finals. IMO, the only Indiana hs prospects that IU needs to go after hard are Sisley/Haralson in 2025.
  4. I get the concern, but if you consider the transfer portal, odds are IU will find someone competent. They can easily sell usage if tjd/race, ncaa appearance and bigger stage to 99% of guys within portal. Also if they land reneau or duncomb takes a step that would the fill the gap at the 5.

(2022) PF Malik Reneau to INDIANA

Real chance if they get him to visit.

    Brian Walsh Assistant Coach

Worth it if it means that you keep 2 elite recruiters (Ya and Hunter) who are able to pull top 50 talent consistently from the elite prep schools like Monteverde/IMG and the Southeast Area (Newton, Carr?, etc.) Under Woodson's approach/regime, IU is going to need talented athletes to build an SEC like roster to compete. It is what it is.The best Indiana talent doesn't fit those needs most years, so I'm good with the status quo right now. If he fails, I'm all aboard changing philosophies and going with Michael Lewis, Shrewsberry, Gard protoge, someone from Purdue, etc.

Woodson also appreciated his ability to land Cupps and seems to think he was loyal/trustworthy enough.

I'm guessing IU had to go cheaper on the 3rd assistant financially to reallocate those funds to promoting Ya/Hunter to Associate HC's.

Kenny Payne and Louisville were pursuing him to be a great recruiter on their staff.

That's an oversimplified look at judging the 1st season. I don't consider it an A or even B level season for the team and coaching staff. But for a program that hasn't made a tournament since 2016, beat purdue/michigan in 10 tries, or even won multiple games in the BTT, you have to see it as real progress and something to build off of. Of course they choked in several late game situations and underwhelmed against St. Mary's, but if they weren't able to keep the staff together, there was a real chance of regression going into the following seasons. Woodson may end up being a failed hire within the next few years, but the results of this season don't push him closer to that position.

What What's wrong with IU taking advantage of the basketball resources they have by trying to maximize recruiting capabilities from the assistant coaches they hire and filling in any necessary gaps with consultants?

What are you talking about? Team had a s***load of open shots. Just couldn't hit enough of them.

Probably would've lost Ya without going in-house on the 3rd assistant spot. Losing Ya could've been devastating with access to the south and potential loss of Jakai Newton for 2023.
  14. Who else? Locks: Leal, Galloway, JHS, Gunn, Banks Probably: Bates: His dad posted positive social media info about coming back next year X: Phinisee and Lander leaving give positive indications he's coming back Kopp : Graduating in December and good teammate, so I don't see a reason to transfer or push him out.
  15. Is it wrong to say that the only remaining players who might realistically leave are: TJD One of Race/Geronimo Duncomb

    Dane Fife leaves IU staff

I don't think the Fife news will matter to anyone that matters within a week or two. Assuming IU hires a competent replacement, keeps enough of the current roster, and makes a nice recruiting splash to finish off the 2022 class. Coaches, players, and recruits won't care that he's no longer on staff. Will there be fans disappointed that he's no longer on staff and in position to be the heir to Woodson? Sure, but so what. Although, I do wish Woodson was a little gentler in his statement towards Fife.

    2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection

To me it's the same as the half full/half empty concept. Maybe X and Woodson realized after their talk this week their expectations don't align next season with JHS coming in. Or maybe it's the opposite and it's a gear up for the offseason instead of the end of an era.

    NCAA MBB Transfer Portal

Hopefully usage of TJD/Race, a decent 1st season for Woody, and teaming up with JHS again lead him to IU.
  22. Are you going to be able to enjoy it or be fretting over IU?
  23. Sounds like X will be on him (at least initially): Q. X, Trayce mentioned their point guard, Hunter Maldonado, a 6-7 guy, seems like it’s kind of a contrast in styles, you like to get up and run; he plays slow and deliberate. What’s your read on that matchup at this point? And what’s impressed you about him and how do you see that contrast playing out? XAVIER JOHNSON: I believe he’s a good player, playing in the Midwest, averaging 18 points, six assists. That’s big-time. But I don’t think he’s played against the type of guard that’s actually going to pressure him a lot up the floor. And so I’m just ready to compete tomorrow against him.
  24. They have one shooter who's pretty good at 40% and some other guys who are more streaky. If they can avoid fouling, I'd like to see how they do without doubling.
