IUBB at Xavier - Friday, 11/18/22 @ 6:00 on FS1
vemmeistars replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Yes, the win at NC State during the 2011-2012 season. Here are the other nonconference road losses since then: 2012-2013: No road nonconference games 2013-2014: At Syracuse 69-52 2014-2015: No road nonconference games 2015-2016: At Duke 94-74 2016-2017: At Fort Wayne 71-68 OT 2017-2018: At Seton Hall 84-68, At Louisville 71-62 2018-2019: At Arkansas 73-72, At Duke 90-69 2019-2020: No road nonconference games 2020-2021: At FSU 69-67 OT 2021-2022: At Syracuse 112-110 2OT Besides the Fort Wayne loss, it's not as bad as it sounds, IMO. IU plays a lot of neutral site nonconference games. -
Same here. If they lose that game, they very well could start the year 0-7 with their next 3 games in Maui Invitational and a game vs. Maryland.

(2023) - SG Jakai Newton to INDIANA
vemmeistars replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Honestly, if IU is undefeated going into the UNC game, I think it will blow last year's Purdue environment out of the water. I think the hype before the game will be similar to the Watshot game. The crowd for the first 2 games have been really strong as well. -

Just guessing a timeline off of the rumors that he is an IU lean. -

2023 additions seems to be down to transfers and a lucky decommit or reclass. Really need a solid class in 2024 to maintain momentum from this year. I would guess Sisley is the next IU commit (maybe after the UNC game). I hope IU doesn't regret not going after Garwey Dual. -
I'm optimistic about Bates making the largest year over year jump. He shot over 40% from 3 his two years at IMG and had a busy freshman year acclimating to fatherhood. TJD quote tweeting Bates as a breakout along with Woodson answering Bates as the most likely breakout guy at media day gives me hope he can be pivotal in filling the perimeter shot making role IU needs.

B10 Basketball Recruiting Thread

I think it's the latter of what you are saying. But, he will be in for a miserable experience with the weather during BIG season. I seriously considered attending Minnesota, but fortunately visited during January or February. Based on the location of the dorms and the business school, I probably would've had to cross a bridge over the Mississippi River. I did it once during the visit and it was like going through a cryotherapy wind tunnel. -
Interesting. Don't know if I should be encouraged or discouraged by his analysis. If that's the goal of all his team reviews, well done. I guess it makes me feel better about next year's core of Galloway/Bates/Geronimo/Reneau. But, I'm hoping it was a bad day for the vets when he visited.

I think every team/coach with recent success gets a boost or the benefit of the doubt in preseason rankings.
-
If you listened to Kopp's zoom with the media yesterday, I think you would be optimistic about his usage/role. He stated that his job is to defend, rebound, and knock down open shots. I'm hoping he shoots closer to 40% than 35% from 3 this year, but doesn't average more than 20 minutes a game.

Anybody know a mobile app where they can bet on the BIG basketball title odds and/or if they still payout when the title is shared?
-
Matt Jones and Dan Dakich tweeting out that they're hearing IU-UK series is coming back next year.

Rumor on Xavier boards was that it is weed related. Regardless, I'd be surprised to see him miss the IU game.
-
I do think the distinction between an in season event and out of season event are relevant to the nature of the punishment.

At some point, the schools are going to do revenue sharing and/or be allowed to directly manage/coordinate NIL deals with players. But, until that happens someone is going to have spend a lot of that personal time (unpaid) to create/manage a NIL framework. Obviously, there has been plenty of cringe, but without there efforts IUBB probably doesn't have top tier NIL in the BIG and there's a huge gap in documenting interesting moments/perspectives of famous figures in IU athletics history. As long as they tone down their cringe and learn from their mistakes, I think they are a net positive for IU. If another (more professional) alternative existed to the Hysterics, I'd be inclined to support them in the podcast/NIL space. Also, I hope the author has scrubbed his social media because 95% of IU undergrads have worse moments than motorboating a statue.

(2023) - SG Jamie Kaiser Jr. to Maryland
vemmeistars replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
He's doing an unofficial to Maryland tomorrow. I'm guessing he's still undecided, but maybe he's an IU lean and is giving Maryland a final opportunity to sway him. If we don't hear him about him committing to Maryland Thursday or Friday, I'm hopeful he ends up at IU. -

In terms of likelihood of committing, I'd handicap it: 1. Page 2. DHS 3. Kaiser All of them seem to have had very good or great visits. As long as IU lands one of them, IU should be in a good position for the 2023 class and look to pick up a decommit or transfer(s) in the spring. -

I think that’s a positive for iu. Seems like he was probably a Maryland lean going into the visit. -

Out of curiosity, can you send a link? -
Pequod's is worthy of trying. It's probably my favorite deep dish. Can't promise you'll find it better than Malnati's. If you want to try Tavern style, the other popular style of pizza in Chicago that most locals prefer, I recommend Pat's, Candelite, or Vito and Nick's

I hate what a 24 team conference would do to Basketball. A 20 team conference makes sense scheduling wise and is better than the status quo. Iu would play Purdue twice and everyone else once.
-
Basic analysis above is worth watching. My personal reasons are: Blend well with new entrants (usc, ucla, and probably nd joins) Elite Academics and olympic sports fit with BIG I’m anti Oregon since they don’t fit the academic profile well and may fall off a cliff ratings/relevance wise when Phil knight/Nike are gone. Washington is a good fit, I just want the option of hiring DeBoer if Allen continues iufb’s downward trajectory/awfulness.
-
I predict they’ll add notre dame, Oregon, Washington and Stanford. I’d prefer they add notre dame/Stanford, and add nc/duke at when the acc gor isn’t an issue.
-
Awesome. Hope we play them on the road next year too.
-
Fair enough. They better release the matchups this week, so this discussion is irrelevant.
