I am so happy that IU would rather lose and do things the right way, than cheat and win. If the only way IU can have a good basketball team is to hire a coach that is going to cheat and live and in the Grey area; I hope they disband basketball all together, The University is much bigger than any sports program. Do it right or don't do it at all.

Hey, the time zone differences are not all bad. The weird thing for me is calling my family and getting them out of bed, but it is late afternoon or evening for me. If you are a fan of live sports you have to make a lot of changes. In my case, I record a lot of games and watch after the fact, for me it usually isn't that bad, because after the games everyone in the US goes to bed. In your case you would just have to wake up very early in the morning.

I found the secret to not worrying about the new coach. I took my wife on a 5 hour hike today up one of the alps! No cell signal on the hike, and now I am too tired to really care! We started in that village behind us in the picture. :) That was about 1/2 way up. Hope you all have a great day, I'm going to take a nap.

I am relying on Dolson to make A decision. That way I can jump on the bandwagon like thousands of other fans that wanted another coach hired. It is a LOT more fun complaining. :)

I haven't read all 60 pages since I went to bed last night, so I am sure there is some catching up to do. That being said. What a gigantic load of crap this post is. IU's fanbase is no different than any other fanbase for a major sports program. We have our whack-a-doodles; we have our serious fans; we have our bandwagon fans; and we have the vast majority of fans that cheer for the team when they are playing but these fans do not think to much about the team otherwise. Yep, if you want to quote message boards to show your irrational fans, this is a good place to start. You immediately get yourself into the 1 percent club. That club where the fans are so passionate that they spend time with other fans talking about the team. Now you can take the bell curve to this fan base, and pick out the 1% of the 1% that go to the extreme, and you can use their quotes to show the entire fanbase is delusional about their team. No real person takes these message boards seriously. Sure some of the impressionable 18 - 21 year old players do, but their brains are still developing. No coach candidate takes these seriously; if they did they would have had to hospitalize themselves years ago, because if they ever lost a game, they would know they are worthless sacks of ****, and should go jump off the highest building in their town.

I guess I am really not sure what you are asking. What will it take for me to stop being a fan? How much unethical stuff am I willing to live with to have a consistent winner? For me I would rather lose every game than have a coach and player knowingly and willingly violate the rules, no matter how dumb and out of date those rules are. I was offended when IU hired Sampson, and was kind of glad IU got kicked in the teeth over that one. I would say if we hire Pitino, I will probably never watch another BB game again. Maybe, just because I am old and set in my ways, but I want a coach and players that always strive to represent the University in the very best possible light. I want student athletes that will take advantage of the IU Bill of rights, and become graduates no matter what their employment goals are.

I can see that too, but literally right before the announcement is being made. If there was a press conference scheduled for this morning, I would agree with you.

I am not sure I buy this thought process. I cannot imagine any Athletic Director letting a bunch of social media connected teenagers and young 20 somethings know anything of importance until immediately before they are releasing it to the public. Heck, most adults can't keep anything secret let alone a 19 year old. :)

Texas' Athletic Budget is almost $80 Million more than IU's. If we can come up with $10 million. I am pretty sure they can just as easily come up with $12 million.

Yes, but you are only looking at a fraction of the total fan base. I would think the subset of people posting on message boards is less than 1% of the total fan base. They are typically the most die hard fans out there. I can speak only for me, but my apathy started after getting beat by Syracuse. For whatever reason that loss demoralized me. The last two years (granted it is a little different because I don't get to see many games live any more.). I can count on the two hands the number of complete games I have watched. This year, I recorded every single game. I watched 2 games. That was it. That is apathy. There are more people a lot more apathetic than I. I will be easy to win back. It will be a lot harder to win back others.

It is about the same level of nonsense as only saying an Indiana Guy is the only criteria needed for the next coach. If my examples were all alive, 4 of them would meet the only criteria I have seen you lay out. You never would have hired the best coach we ever had. I would love it if a qualified coach has Indiana ties, that would be great, but if I had to list 1000 criteria for what I want in the next coach "Indiana Guy" wouldn't even make the list.

Everything you are saying is a wild @$$ guess. Stevens just negotiated a contract extension in August. There is no proof that we proposed doubling his salary, and that he went back to the Celtics and they doubled it, or there was a lot of back and forth and he kept asking for more. I believe IU talked with his agent. I believe IU agreed to everything he asked for. Then I think Brad decided he liked the NBA more. Maybe something will come out and convince me that Stevens played IU, but that is NOT the way the man has done anything before. He has always seemed to be a strait shooter. People don't usually go from being straightforward and honest to playing people off others.

Where do you think the social media chatter came from. No coach worth anything is paying any attention to that. You are making it sound like Stevens turning down Indiana was the lead story on CNN. (Well I just woke up, so maybe it was, I don't know.). Just let the whole thing play out. IU just might get the next Bobby Knight, or Coach K.

What is there to backfire? It is only people like us message boards that are making a big stink over Stevens. To the rest of the world, it is a non issue. IU tried to hire him, and he didn't want to come. This same scenario plays out during every coaching search.

If anything his working for Knight would sour him on IU. At that time, I am willing to bet that Coach Knight did not utter more than one or two good words about Indiana the entire time they worked together

IU's history is pretty clear. We used to be ELITE, now we aren't. Handling the fan base is no different than handling any other college fan base. Win, and don't let the program blacken the eye of the University, Do those things and the fan base will be behind you.

If that is the case, IU had better be looking for an Athletic Director as well as a BB coach. There is NO WAY he gave any kind of guarantee to anyone. He probably gave a list of coaches he is going to approach, or said he has been talking with someone.

HMMM. Maybe the family angle was not really an angle, and it was simply some people on message boards that were looking for anything to bolster their belief of why he would come to IU.
