Is there anything to be positive about?

I was really hoping we could get through the first quarter of the year before we started with the doom and gloom, but WOW, this is ugly.

Damn, it did not take much time for the glow to come off the season. :(

    Next Season’s Expectations

I fixed it for you. We didn't see anything delivered during the 4 years he was here, so the length of time HAS to be longer.

    This really sucks...

If you hadn't clarified your statement I was going to say I'm sorry. I didn't steal the fish, but I was one of those drunk hooligans in and around the fountain down Kirkwood Ave that night.

    College Bball Thread

Sounds like what people are saying about IU as well. :(
  7. The one thing that throws a wrench into your entire train of thought, is that RMK was not an IU guy. Until he was.... The whole debacle that has been IU basketball for 20 years now, is not that RMK left. It was the way he was let go. If IU, and RMK, had handled the situation better we probably would have been closer to UNC. They had one failure after Dean left. The person following an icon is probably not going to succeed. I would say it is 50-50 at best that Woodson succeeds. I truly hope he does, but it will not have much to do with him being an IU player at one time. I am in the same fan boat as you. Started to know what basketball was in the early 70's. Graduated IU in 87.
  8. Is that why so many have entered the portal?
  9. "Interviewed" could be very true. I thought I had read somewhere that they talked to Keith Smart as well. However, if Dolson, didn't reach out to the people for some of the college coaches that have been mentioned, and possibly even other people in the NBA then he shouldn't be in the job and we will probably be looking for a new AD pretty soon as well. :)
  10. I am confident that IU did their due diligence with other coaches. I think this wound up being the best option available. There were way to many days of silence for this to be even option B or C on the wishlist.
  11. Find ONE example of a kid that chose a University based on the looks of the uniform. Changing the cut of the uniform would not do nearly as much for recruiting as being able to add another star on the back of the pants. Just like every other program the uniforms get re done every couple of years. They are probably due for a refresh soon anyway.
  12. No, because those facilities rankings ebb and flow. You build them when you need to build them, not just to keep up. Build them then update as needed.
  13. Please find me one kid that went to college based on the cut of their uniform. Young men playing basketball are not doing so to major in fashion design. Are there some kinds in the past that went to a school because it was Nike, or Adidas? Sure. Isn't that what a good portion of the FBI investigation is about?
  14. I've now had the chance to get a good night's sleep after learning of the hire. I am still very middle of the road. I read a take by Osterman in the Star, that I really find myself agreeing with. I think what I find the most frustrating is that IU couldn't even hire a coach that is able to handle the job by himself. They had to go out and hire a second coach to coach the coach. I guess I AM, like my kids say, the grumpy old man living in the past. DARN, I thought that would hold off at least until 60. I hope this works, I hope I can go back to being excited about IU BB. All I can do now is wait and see the results.
  15. Yeah, those words sure have taken on a different meaning over the last few years, huh?
  16. I fixed it for you. Other than that one word, you are 100% right.
  17. As a middle school kid, I shot baskets in the driveway pretending to play with Woodson. I can appreciate what he means to IU's history. I welcome him back to IU, and wish him a lot of success, That being said this whole thing perplexes me. If I were going after a former player with NBA experience I liked a Keith Smart hire better, but that is only a matter of degree. I think this goes to show you that IU is no longer a top tier destination. If Woodson was choice A, B, or C. I think this deal would have been done a while ago. As someone who has talked about how my apathy to this program has grown over the last 5 or 6 years, for me this doesn't do anything at all to build excitement. The only thing I am excited about in regards to college BB now, is hoping without much hope that someone is going to knock off Gonzaga.

That has always been the case. The real insiders don't post on boards like this. It would cost them way too much. I am sure there are some that post that "know" some people, but even then the knowledge is limited.

The Star is reporting it as fact. I tend to think this one is real.
  20. Do not see any way there is a twofer. It doesn't work very often in the business world, I don't see it working at all in college athletics. To many coaches get fired and do not leave on their own accord. If Beilein tanks, then Fife would tank as well. If Beilein stays healthy and succeeds, then Fife gets pissed off when Beilein doesn't leave. I don't see any winning scenarios here.

I agree with most of what you say except this. I just think hiring Beilein insures that we will be looking for a coach sooner rather than later. If he were 60, he would be right at the top of my list.

There is a big difference between being productive, and being able to handle the rigors of a college BB season. A coach gets what 4 - 6 weeks off per year? Sure the season is only 7 months long, but it is a brutal 7 months. Not to mention the stress and headaches of the off season. My Dad was a practicing physician until he retired at age 82. We had lots of talks over the years, and was the first to admit that his productivity started going down about age 60. When he retired he could still handle seeing 30-40 patients a day, but he was a small town doctor. It was the working all day, then getting the phone calls at 2:00 am that finally got to him. Well that and having to do everything on a computer. :) I think we can all agree that we want more than productive. Crean was productive, Miller was productive. That didn't help us much. The only concern I have with Beilein is that we know we will be doing another coaching sooner rather than later, and I think we can all agree that a coaching carousel is not a good thing.

I thought I was jaded. If I had your belief. I don't know if I could watch college sports ever again.

If that is the reality, then IU should get rid of Basketball.
