A Final Analysis on the 2015-16 Hoosiers
jmsgws replied to IndyHutch's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Nice write up to end the season Terry. In an earlier thread you asked about the season, and I said it basically comes down to the way it ends. Like you I didn't think IU played that badly, though the score doesn't reflect that. So I guess I will call this a good season. I like your take on Crean and the coaching job. I think he really did learn and change a lot this year. -
"Winless, burning down an orphanage on Christmas Eve, doesn't matter, this AD will always give him another chance." This made me think your belief is that Glass will never get rid of Crean. A Good Coach wins Coach of the Year in the B1G. A good coach brings back a couple of conference championships. A good coach makes it to the Sweet 16 3 times in five years. Crean has the resume to be considered a good coach. I think we both want a great coach. I don't think Crean is that coach, but I am a firm believer that "good" is all we are going to get until "great" becomes available.

I don't think you are correct there. I think Fred Glass wants to succeed as much as every other fan. However, he also has to manage the entire athletic department. After the team woke up they had a pretty good year. There is no reason to let him go. I also think that Glass knows Crean is a good coach, and until there is someone obviously better, he is not going to make a move. Now if Mr Glass offers an extension this year, my tune will change. :)

If this doesn't get you excited for football season, nothing will!! Link

I have tried accepting them, but it still shows up on every page, and I have to click accept or block each time the page refreshes.
-
The frustrating thing are the notification pop ups. Every time I visit a page, or refresh a page. I get a pop up that says btownbanners.com wants to: Show notifications and there is a box to block or allow. I admit I am a little anal about tracking cookies, etc.. and have my browsers set fairly strict in regards to remembering cookies, allowing cookies, etc.. but something has changed with 2.0 that has changed it. I used to simply get that pop up message the first time I would log into the site. But once I said bock, I would never see the pop up again until I logged back in. Now I get that pop up every single page, and I cannot do anything until I click pop-up. In my account I have Browser notifications NOT enabled, but the only way to make the pop up go away is to enable browser notifications.

Probably because you do not have any of the privacy settings turned on! The new site does not work well with any kinds of privacy settings. At least that is my take. Using Chrome, Firefox, or safari, quite frankly it is annoying to me. Not annoying yet, to stop using it, however. :)
-
It is the browser notification that is causing the problems. I don't want them, so since they are turned off, the web site wants to remind me to turn them on each and every page. Highly annoying. :)
-
I am using Firefox Version 45.0.1. The notification popups are to the point of extremely annoying. Everytime I refresh a page, or go to another page, I get a pop up asking if I want to recieve notifications from this page. I still get the phishing notifications, but I am assuming that will go away, once you clear yourself from the black lists.

I was always confident back then. I always thought we had a chance in every game we played. Now.... Not so much. -

Bryant comes up big to lead IU over Kentucky
jmsgws replied to IndyHutch's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Bryant did come up big, but the team was giving me a heart attack, when they kept getting the Ball into Bryant's hands and he missed the first of the free throws. :) -
IU "Screw" Kentucky Post Game Victory Thread
jmsgws replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The only thing that I was really questioning, was why they didn't try harder to get the ball in Yogi's hands instead of Bryants when Kentucky started fouling. Bryant isn't a bad FT shooter, but you want your Senior taking those shots, not a Freshman. -

(5) Indiana vs (4) Kentucky - 3/19 17:15 EST on CBS

The only bright spot I see is that we are playing pretty bad, and we are only down three. If IU ever decides to start playing we will run them out of the gym. -

The only player I want to see coming off the bench is Priller, because that means MOP UP TIME!!!! -

Analysis: What will it take for IU fans to call this a successful season?
jmsgws replied to IndyHutch's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Isn't respectful disagreement one of the things that make these message boards fun? :) I always try and dismiss history from the current year. A good example was when we got whalloped by Syracuse. Crean's post season history was not significantly different that year, yet because of that specific team we had heightened expectations of how they would end the year. That is why we were all up in arms when we looked so bad in that game. After the third week of this season, did any of us expect to win the B1G, and even be playing in the NCAA tournament? The way I interpreted the post I responded to, was that it was more focused on Crean's past than the discussion point raised in the thread. The past, to me, doesn't have any bearing on whether or not this season is successful. I put in red the part we are in complete agreement. If History were different I would expect beating Kentucky, and I would also expect beating North Carolina. Not so much any more. -
Please don't take this the wrong way, but we unfortunately hear the same thing every year. :(

Analysis: What will it take for IU fans to call this a successful season?
jmsgws replied to IndyHutch's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think you are mixing up THIS year's success or possibly lack thereof, with keeping or firing Coach Crean. I agree with you that any discussion of Crean's job has to look at the totality of his work. However, that wasn't the discussion. The last eight years have nothing to do with this team, or this season. -
I have to admit, the last two episodes have soured me a little. I used to see the group as a small island of good adrift in the big ocean of bad. Sure they were bad A$$ when they needed to be, but they never sought out the conflict, they simply reacted. I have always told my kids: "If someone tries to pick a fight, don't throw the first punch, but try your hardest to throw the last...." Call me pollyanish or whatever adjective you want, but I use TV for enjoyment, and I enjoy the good guy winning over evil. Now I am quickly losing that feeling in regards to this show.

Analysis: What will it take for IU fans to call this a successful season?
jmsgws replied to IndyHutch's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Can I add it depends on how we play... I expect us to win the 1st game. Losing this game would mean a bad season to me. I think we can beat Kentucky, but losing does not automatically make it a bad season. If we play well, and lose a close game, I will call it an OK season. If we play badly,..... Assuming we make it past Kentucky, I wouldn't call it a bad season no matter the result, but again it depends on the way we would play in the Sweet 16. If we play well and lose, then I can still call it a good season. If we play badly, it would go down to a MEHH season. Neither good nor bad. The championship is great, winning the B1G by two games is a BIG deal. However, tourney results also matter, and certainly the way we played in the BTT left a bad taste in my mouth. The BTT tourney brought back all the doubts that were starting to wane. A good regular season is to be expected, Now we just need to make a splash during the psot season. -

For those of us you that don't get the Indianapolis Star, I thought I would post this. Enjoyable article about the rivalry! http://www.indystar.com/story/sports/columnists/gregg-doyel/2016/03/09/doyel-iu-purdue-rivalry-goes-cut-above/81479890/
