Which coach would you rather have?
DrMAK8892 replied to TomPritchard25's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Self has same problem as Crean. Can't coach in March. Assuming March is the most important consideration: Izzo and Coach K by far the best but obviously never available. Miller and Donovan realistic wish listers -
My son is a freshman at IU, played basketball all 4 years in high school. Shameless plug: his team won the freshman intramural bb tourn. (Sorry for digressing) I went down to several bb games this year and he sat with me. He said at a game back in November that Creans offense is what he was taught when he was a FRESHMAN in high school: the "simple weave". ( his coach that year was Basil Smothermans dad ) It worked ok for for the cupcakes in the fall, but when it came to B1G season, it failed miserably. The problem was, when it failed, and teams were shutting it down, he didn't change it. The result- watch the Iowa and NW games. I really think he can recruit, but when it comes to X's and O's you might as well call it "strategery". If you have the talent to pull it off like Oladipo, Zeller, and Hulls they can make it look good. But when you don't, well, you get this season.

Totally agree. JB's stock steadily declined after January. He needs a lot of work. Can say the exact same for Troy.

I stand corrected. I still think we need some more of that.

A good image?? In the 7 yrs here CTC has NEVER gotten a Tech. I WISH he would take a page from the RMK book of genius coaching and get one every once in a while. A well timed tech is a way to fire up your team, your fans, and get a refs attention and reverse some bad momentum.

I say to bring college basketball back to What it was the following needs to happen: -let players join NBA straight out of high school, but what they join for 2 years is the Developmental league. -that will leave scholarships for those kids planning on actually attending college with the intent to earn a degree. A scholarship is essentially a 4 year contract with a school. If you leave before your contract is up to go professional, then you owe the school some money to get out of your contract and so that they can find a suitable replacement. However if you leave as a Transfer, you are not penalized, but the school you go to has to make up the remaining value of the contract to the school you left. I think this will bring back the committed 4 year athlete and let the superstars who have no interest in a college degree just skip it and stop taking scholarships from the true student athlete Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Fred Glass Interview (CBI, Mike Woodson, IU Scheduling)
DrMAK8892 replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Fair enough. I just don't like the "fire him" mentality. I must've misunderstood your ranting to be just that. Agree completely with the fact that with 2 MAAs and a thoroughbred senior we should expect more. Can't blame it all on the coach. In my opinion we should've declined NIT invite if given one. Just getting tired of everyone jumping on the firing bandwagon in social media when they don't think thru what that kind of chatter can do to a teenagers mindset. I'm signing off this discussion as frustrated as you are, but trying to be careful what gets aired Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

Hard to say you are loyal when you are so dang negative. I get the frustration but come on, to be so negative on a public forum doesn't do the program any good. I agree this was a WTF year when we can upset every ranked B1G team that comes to AH then lose to the likes of PS, PU, and NW. But you can't just throw your hands up and forget the positive. All I can say is I'm glad you aren't in a decision making position at IU, we'd be spending so much money on ex coaches that we wouldn't be in any position to pay someone good enough to stay. Unless you have what it takes to do better, STFU. Be constructive in your criticism not destructive. Air some legit solutions instead of just bitching. You give the fan base a bad name. the athletes read this and it affects them. If you don't think so you are wrong. I have an athlete close to me and they hate this divisive chatter. It brings them down. They are impressionable young men. Be careful what you say. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

Not sayin any of you aren't loyal fans. Or you wouldn't be on here. Just sayin we can't scream fire him from one up and down season. I've been a financial supporter of the program since I graduated in the 80's. I was pissed when RMK got fired and I think Davis and Sampson were jokes. They destroyed IU's program. Crean inherited a decimated program and has done a good job getting it turned around. Don't throw him off the ship because we hit a rough current. We are starting to go in the right direction. Starting over again so soon will cause a bigger delay in getting it back to where it used to be. Not to mention we'd be once again paying a lot of money to former coaches. It's very fickle and fair weather to cheer one year and yell fire the next because we underperformed. We lost a lot of good personnel early due to the Lure of the money in the NBA. So did UK the year before and they had a rough year last year. No one was screaming for Calipari to be fired. The bigger picture fix is to let high schoolers enter the NBA developmental leagues directly and get back to committed players using their scholarships and developing programs and enough of the one and done users. I think everyone should back off a little here. Scheduling is done too far in advance to make a change for next year. Also, consider that IU's strength of schedule is higher than half of the top 25 teams right now. It all boils down to winning games we should win (PSU, PU, NW come to mind). It's not easy to lose all the leadership and talent from last year and bounce back. Be patient. And also, knock off the fire Crean crap. You all are so fickle. We could win the B1G next year and all you yelling fire Crean would be back on his bandwagon. You're not true loyal IU fans. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
