Mike Woodson to be next IUBB coach. Thad Matta to be associate AD
NOLA Hoosier replied to iubb's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Same. With an NBA guy, Matta, and some good assistants, this actually rules. I’ll eat my words if this doesn’t work out, but I’m ready for them to come out swinging. -

One thing I’ve gathered from all this: nobody knows anything. And that’s fine. I’ve chosen to be Bill Walton about it. -
It’s starting to look like this is the year for the underdog, which honestly I’m here for.

Candidate Thread: Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics)
NOLA Hoosier replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I’ve been saying this all along. It’s gonna be some random person none of us thought to mention and we are all going to be let down. This is where we are. Forgive the pessimism, but why would I have any hope at this point? -
Candidate Thread: Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics)

Alford’s hire would lose half the fanbase. If not half, say, 1/3rd. After the last few years of apathy, that cannot happen. There’s no way Dolson goes that route, and if he does, the last money they’ll see will be from an aging fanbase content with mediocrity just because there’s “an IU guy” they remember playing 40 years ago standing on the sidelines. -
I’m all about Matta/Hackman. See avatar.

The transitive property says we have now lost to the North Texas Mean Green twice this year.

I am of that mind too, I think I just have PTSD from the last decade
-
Honestly, from track records... I wouldn’t be surprised if this hire isn’t going to be anywhere close to what we’re all expecting.

Got mine in. Had an all-B1G championship game but thought better of it at the last minute! -

Dolson is playing the long game. 1.) Hire an older coach to right the ship, because Brad Stevens isn’t quite ready to leave the NBA yet. But... 2.) In a couple years when Brad is finally run out of Boston, a hand off happens. This is all probably not true, but I like to think it is, if Brad won’t come right away. -

I’m in the same boat. Wasn’t happy about the hire, but wanted to make the best of it. I had NO idea we’d be consistently horrible. Like, it’s honestly hard to be as bad as IU has been without actively trying to **** up.

I’m losing confidence, and rapidly. And guys, I didn’t even think about this: not only will IU not be in the tournament held in their own state...Zaga could be perfect. HOW could we possibly come back as a program after that without an immediate coaching change??? -

Worst-case scenario: Archie comes back, a fluke finish in the B1G Top 5 next season and a win in the tourney, IU doesn’t let Archie go, then another 4 years of this. The wheels will continue to spin in neutral. -

Yeah I mean realistically, I don’t see them taking that into account when it comes to the decision. I was 90% certain they were going to let him go after this season, now I’m at about 50/50. If they want to call themselves a blue blood, they should act like it and do the right thing. I’m just not sure they will. -

I like the idea of firing him with cause and having them duke it out in court. No one is squeaky clean (although it would look terrible for an incoming coach). -

An honest question: Why would putting up with a lame duck coach for another year make any more sense than firing him now (and firing up the program again with a new hire)? I have hardly watched at all this year and there’s little to no chance I watch any games next year. And with AH open, how does he think there won’t be boos and jeers every night from the few fans left? Not to mention the loss in merchandising. However, us bitching aside, I know there is roughly half of the fanbase who will watch regardless of how they play, and a lot of that contingent are big sunshine pumpers, even in circumstances like these. Would Dolson count on their support and forgo what the “serious” fans want? -
https://iufilmroom.com/2020-21/indiana-under-archie-miller-its-time-to-move-on/ Has everyone looked at this? For a certified non-expert like myself, this broke it down concisely and in a way that was incredibly easy to read.
