  1. Looks like Johns will move back to coach QBs. I wonder if Johns and Heard will be co-OCs? I would guess Heard has to get a title promotion of co-OC or passing game coordinator. I guess that means Watson is out. Wonder if he stays on as a quality control? http://www.espn.com/espn/now?nowId=21-0601451194535122641-4 Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  2. Wow interesting move! Coached with CTA at both Ole Miss and Arkansas State, I believe. Heard is an Ole Miss alum and has a very impressive track record of recruiting and developing WRs at Ole Miss. Widely regarded as one of the best WR coaches in the nation. He should fit right in with the talent we have at WR here. Looking at the Ole Miss boards it appears Heard's style of coaching WRs is different than what their new OC wants from his WRs, which may be a reason Heard left. Impressive CTA got Heard to leave his alma mater. We really need a top recruiter on offense. Hopefully Heard can be that guy. I'm excited to see what his role with us will be. 3. Add in the loss of Kenny Johnson as a recruiter and you provided an excellent summary of why Crean's recruiting in 2016 is different from even as recent as 2012-2014. The loss of Johnson is a major reason we've struck out on major recruits IMO. Go figures, from what I've read Johnson has developed a strong relationship with Langford. Matt Canada is hired as LSU's OC. Canada is an IU alum, who was our OC under Bill Lynch. In total: Canada was a grad assistant for two years and an assistant coach for seven years at IU. He's a hot coaching prospect who could be a head coach in the near future. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

    2017 Football Schedule

Certainly a difficult schedule. I love the UVA matchup. Similar-minded, high quality academic institution. Bronco Mendenhall is a great coach, they will be improved in year two. Georgia Southern runs a triple option that is difficult to prepare for in a week, and they have a defensive minded coach who has had stingy defenses in the past. FIU recently hired Butch Davis, and they usually have good athletes on their team. Wisconsin is a tough draw from the West. Illinois should be a fun matchup. I expect them to be improved year 2 under Lovie Smith. UMD and Rutgers should see some improvement in year 2 with their new coaches as well. If there is a benefit to hosting OSU to open the season it's that they host Oklahoma the next week. Maybe we can catch them sleeping. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

  8. Should be a good recruiting battle between us and UK. Vince Marrow is from Youngstown and is an excellent recruiter with deep Ohio connections. Deland McCullough is also from Youngstown and has been excellent recruiting for us in Ohio. DM had an inhome with Bowden earlier this month. Oh course, all could go out the window if OSU offers. Good stuff out of the CTA interview. Mentioned that Camion Patrick is still not 100% recovered ("not the same player as when I first got here"). Said Camion likely needs a full offseason to recover. CTA stated firmly that Camion is an RB and that they've talked about that for next year. Happy to hear we are going back to the basics with special teams. Based on recruiting it sounds like CTA wants to keep the offensive staff intact, and for us to have a running identity. I am very curious to see how the offense looks against Utah. Utah has an active and physical front seven. Running the ball will not be easy. I am excited to see how Johns calls the plays. Red zone offense has been out weakness. Maybe Johns can be an upgrade in this aspect. It sounds like recently promoted QB coach Shawn Watson will have some influence on the game plan as well. He has big program play-calling experience. He is now able to instruct on the practice field. It may be beneficial to get a fresh set of eyes and a new voice instructing Lagow. (2017) LB De'Morreal "Mo" Burnam to IU

We picked up two out of the three CBs this morning. The third CB hasn't been changed since March. Seem like good signs. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  11. http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/18236967/ole-miss-rebels-fire-co-offensive-coordinator-dan-werner Dan Werner out at Ole Miss. Could this open the door for a reunion with Tom Allen at Indiana? Looking at Ole Miss's SB Nation page, fans seem split on Werner. The main gripe is he isn't active in recruiting, which makes it tough to justify a coaching spot to a guy who doesn't recruit (much less one with the salary that Werner made). Other fans mention the staff is being cleared out to make room for Charlie Strong's salary. On the flip side, Ole Miss has had excellent QB play and top ranked offenses. Although, it is unclear who actually calls the plays over there. Freeze has an offensive background, and Ole Miss has had co-offensive coordinators. Just pure speculation on my part. 12. Probably the recruit I'm most excited for in 2017 class. Hopefully him and the other defensive in-state commits can bring RJ Potts as well. Scary what Coach Allen will be able to do with all this defensive talent coming in. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

  14. Sounds like we've done everything right here. He appears to be a good kid and a Crean-type, three year player that is buying in to Crean's vision of player development. I'm feeling good about our chances, especially with the connections already to Moore and Green. We are going against the defending national champions who geographically would allow Tucker's family to see him play on a regular basis. Regardless, I love this type player to go after (Top 100, 4*, three year player). Recruiting time certainly well spent whether or not he chooses us. Edit: when will the CBs start changing? Still on Syracuse and L'Ville. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

    (2017) CB Quran Hafiz

We are investing a lot of time into this kid. I would even go as far as saying he's been our top target. The coaching staff must feel we have a good chance. Even if he doesn't choose us, he's showing us a lot of love and tweeted about us while on a Nebraska visit. Big recruiting battle for us. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

    2017 IUFB Recruiting

http://247sports.com/Player/Dresser-Winn-87160 I like this kid's game a lot. Good size, poised, sets his feet, squares up, smooth throwing motion, different release points and velocities, throws well on the run. Reminds me of a Ryan Tannehill type QB. Very small high school (smallest division in TN public schools) - could be an under the radar type prospect. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  17. https://www.google.com/amp/s/indiana.247sports.com/Article/Ole-Miss-head-coach-Hugh-Freeze-Indianas-Tom-Allen-a-natural-hea-49479823/Amp?client=safari Another good article on Coach Allen and how he reached out to Hugh Freeze. Good insight into how Coach Allen may look at his staff after the bowl game. Freeze went through the same situation when he became the head coach at Arkansas State. Pretty cool how IU players and recruits are tweeting #LEO. "Love Each Other". Even offensive players are tweeting it because of Coach Allen. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  18. http://www.tampabay.com/sports/college/fennelly-brief-detour-back-to-tampa-for-new-iu-coach-tom-allen/2305190 Well written article in the Tampa Bay Times on Tom Allen. Writer makes a good point: with Taggart rumored to be a top candidate for Oregon, if Tom Allen wasn't promoted to IU HC, USF would have most definitely gone after him. I'll take it another step forward: if Taggart goes to Oregon, would he have used that Phil Knight Nike money to try and get Allen back as his DC? Between those connections and Ole Miss, we were always going to be vulnerable to losing Coach Allen unless he was promoted to head coach. Makes me even more pumped to have him in charge! Brohm is the best person Purdue could realistically hire. Miles was never coming. Between Sumlin, Pat Narduzzi, and Butch Jones, Purdue fans have an unrealistically high opinion of that job and love to start rumors. Brohm did an excellent job at Western and has nothing left to prove there. He deserves a P5 job. 15-1 conference the last two years with two conference championships (that one loss was avenged in the C-USA championship against L-Tech this past Saturday), 2-0 in bowls. Only five losses the last two seasons, four of them to P5 teams (one of them us), one avenged loss to L-Tech this season. As far as concerns: Brohm inherited a program in very strong shape from Bobby Petrino and Willie Taggart before that, so he didn't build that program from the ground up. Western recruits a lot of JUCO transfers. Will that be a problem at Purdue with stricter academics? Brohm was a great recruiter at Western, but can he recruit to West Lafayette the talent he needs to compete in the B1G? Regardless solid hire by Purdue. The B1G West is wide open behind Wisconsin. Blough will put up monster stats in Brohm's offense. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I love the matchup! This will be a great test for our defense and a measuring stick to how good we are against a top 20 team that isn't in the B1G. It's one thing playing top ranked B1G rivals close, but it means nothing if we cannot take that high level of play and apply it against a non-familiar opponent. Do we play over our heads against OSU and Michigan? Or are we really that good a team and be able to beat Utah? I love the challenge! Coach Allen will have our boys ready!

Very good question. My first thought was concerned too. CKW was excellent on following leads and finding under the radar 3* recruits in Georgia and Florida, that were passed up by SEC schools. Definitely have to give him his credit, the offensive line, running backs and wide receivers were always very well stocked. At the same time, Wilson relied a lot on his assistants. Frey, McCullough and Inge are excellent recruiters. Also, after reading the latest ESPN article, hard to believe Wilson was able to make good impressions with recruits and their families. He seems like a grumpy guy. Maybe that is why Wilson was never able to land/hold onto a top QB recruit? (Sudfeld was a Seth Littrell recruit) Coach Allen will help us a lot in state, and within that 3-4 hour driving distance to border states. Allen will definitely make a more favorable impression on families. We've already seen how recruits are absolutely fired up to play for him. I have no doubt Allen will make Florida a priority. He has enormous experience in the state. Recruiting on defense will only get better. I expect the defensive staff to stay in place. On offense Wilson was definitely a big part of recruiting offensive linemen. However, if we can keep Frey I will not be as worried. McCullough is an excellent recruiter of running backs. Offensive recruiting and development is definitely where I am most concerned. Wilson was an extremely smart offensive mind. It will be interesting to see what we do at OC. Is Johns staying or is someone new coming in? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Taggart would be a fantastic hire for Oregon. Big jump for him but he's a high ceiling talent. Spent three years on the West Coast at Stanford under Harbaugh. Strong recruiter in Florida. Classy shoutout by Taggart: Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I could see Miles doing excellent at UH. He has lots of recruiting connections in Texas from his time recruiting the state at both LSU and Oklahoma State. Houston is a hotbed for high school football. Miles could see UH as an easier path to a New Year's 6 Bowl. If Kiffin misses out, does he join his friend Orgeron at LSU? As far as Oregon. Not much news out of their camp. They are either being extremely quiet or are waiting for conference championships to end so they can go after McElwain, Harsin or Fleck?
