Shawn Watson was promoted to QB coach prior to the bowl game. Wouldn't want him calling an offense by any means but he has an excellent résumé as a QB coach. I think Watson could be a real asset to us if he stays on. https://www.google.com/amp/www.barkingcarnival.com/platform/amp/2014/8/11/5979165/the-misunderstood-shawn-watson-part-i-an-excerpt-from-the-2014?client=safari Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Interesting but understandable move. CTA needs an OC who will be able to be the head coach of the offense with little help from the head coach. CTA will have his hands full calling the defense and improving special teams. I wonder who we are looking at? Is Watson staying? If so, would he be a co-OC with Heard? Just some external names to throw out: Cam Cameron, Dan Werner (Ole Miss), David Reaves (USF), Chris Creighton (EMU) Not putting any weight into realistic possibilities, just naming people close to the program or have ties with CTA. I obviously don't expect Creighton to leave as HC of EMU to be OC at IU. You never know though. EMU's athletic department is broke and I'm sure we could pay him more money to come here. (2017) SF Jordan Tucker- OV 11/30/16
akhosrof replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Very good point. Sounds like Tucker is definitely preferable. However, if Tucker decides to go to Villanova and we end up with Gunn, I will not be disappointed. Although, this place will likely burn to the ground[emoji23] Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
There will be lots of NFL jobs available. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get another head coaching job. If not that, some NFL team will pay him big money to be their offensive coordinator. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

(2017) SF Jordan Tucker- OV 11/30/16
akhosrof replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Sounds like Tucker really loves IU but is torn about playing so far away from home. Maybe he's homesick playing in Georgia right now? Is Jordan Tucker really any better than Zach Gunn? I am the furthest thing from a talent evaluator but I've read that Tucker might be overrated and has been struggling while Gunn has developed very well and producing. I'd almost rather take the chance on Gunn than worry he blows up for someone else and live with the regret we passed up such an instate talent. What does everyone else think on Tucker vs. Gunn? Biggest changes needed to the football team?
akhosrof replied to Miller'sTheMan's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
I think point 1 depends on point 2. We have to know who will run the offense before we can speculate who will be the QB. Will the OC be Johns, Watson/Heard, or heck, Cam Cameron? If Johns stays, you have to think Lagow has the leg up. If we have a new OC, maybe there is a need for a more athletic QB and Ramsey has a legitimate chance. I think we'll have a much better idea of the changes needed once CTA competes his staff. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

akhosrof replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Who plays QB next year could be dependent upon who controls the offense next year. If Johns leaves, and Heard and Watson control the game plan, maybe they need a QB with a different skill set. If Johns stays, my guess is that Lagow stays the QB unless King or Ramsey play lights out this spring. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

This loss hurts a lot more than the Nebrasketball loss. Continually so close to breaking through. I wonder what changes CTA will make to the coaching staff. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

For everyone saying horrible offense, I think that is completely disrespecting Utah's defense. That is a defense with lots of NFL talent on it and a top notch coaching staff. Yards weren't going to come easy tonight regardless. They had turnovers, we had turnovers. Special teams was the difference. Their kicker had two kicks that barely went in, ours missed one. LETS GO!!!! Really scrappy bunch. Good play calling on that last drive getting Lagow some open throws. Hats off to the offensive line on that last drive too. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Random IUBB Recruiting
akhosrof replied to hoosierpap's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I would love a recruiting class built around Phinisse and Jallow as the headliners. Then let Crean do his magic filling out the class finding under-the-radar guys like he has with OG, Morgan, Durham and Moore. I understand the deflated expectations because of recent misses with five star kids, but I don't think it is fair. If we land Tucker, 2017 will turn out to be an excellent class on paper after most Hoosier fans wrote it off as a failure. No reason to believe we won't get the right guys in 2018 as well. I just wish we wouldn't waste our time running after Garland and Langford, and instead signal to Phinisse and Jallow that they are top targets. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Maybe, will be a redshirt junior this upcoming season. Could transfer for his senior year if he graduates. Tough to see Miami lose on a blocked field goal which should have been routine. Especially after they had a blocked PAT earlier in the game. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Gus Ragland on Miami (Ohio) is a very good QB. Miami started 0-6 with Ragland recovering from a spring ACL tear. Ragland came back after only six months and Miami finished the season 6-0 with Ragland as the starter. He didn't throw an INT all season (15 passing TDs and 2 rushing TDs). He just threw his first career INT after approximately 200 pass attempts. Wasn't even that bad of an INT. Miami went for it on 4th and 13 on Miss St's 30, and Ragland threw up the ball under pressure to avoid the sack. Essentially a punt. Has two passing TDs against Miss St so far. Ragland was essentially un-recruited out of Cincinnati. Miami was his only offer. Miami will certainly get a lot of chatter next season as MAC favorites with Ragland at QB. Tom Allen Hired as IU Head Football Coach
akhosrof replied to akhosrof's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Will be interesting to see what happens. Watson isn't a good play caller, as you said. Heard and Johns don't have play calling experience. Maybe CTA is confident that Heard is ready to call plays? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

I agree. Watson has an impressive list of QBs he's developed. He's an asset recruiting QBs for us. Maybe we can keep all three Watson, Johns and Heard, and have one less defensive coach since CTA can coach LBs. Or maybe Johns is leaving and that's why CTA went after Heard? Watson and Heard would then be co-OCs? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
