I'm ready for 2016 IU Football

Good tailgating recipe: http://amazingribs.com/recipes/hot_dogs_and_sausages/wisconsin_brat_tub.html Brats are really good for tailgating because they are quick and easy to make. Another simple but awesome recipe is grinding up some short rib to make burgers. I made this last night and it came out fantastic: http://amazingribs.com/recipes/beef/baltimore_pit_beef.html When tailgating it might be tough to constantly monitor grill and meat temperature, adding coals, or waiting more than two hours for something to cook. How long did it take for you to grill the turkey? How did that come out?

I can't wait to beat PSU this year. Honestly, we should have a three year winning streak against them. They aren't going to get so lucky again. Other than that hard to argue the rest of the list. Minnesota is truly a sleeping giant in the West. They have a strong team this year, and the recruiting is starting to pick up with the awesome facilities they have and are building. Northwestern and Nebraska will be tough upsets for us. Both teams should be improved this year. I don't think a ninth place finish in the B1G and a fourth place finish in the East is that big a stretch for us provided Lagow plays to the potential we saw in the spring game.

I believe CWK said Ricky Brookins and Kiante Enis are working in the slot to back up Paige. I don't think moving Patrick to WR helps us any for J-Shun's injury. We have a lot of depth on the outside at split end and flanker, which is where Patrick would play. Maybe Ricky Jones moves inside on some sets.

Once CKW names a starter I'm sure business will pick up around here! We're getting close!

IUFBsnap on Snapchat will show practice footage. Not much but still something!
  6. According to ESPN he had offers from UVA, Dartmouth and Buffalo, must be an extremely bright kid. Nice to beat out elite academic schools like that for an instate recruit after missing out on Jovan Swann to Stanford last year (although I'm positive most of the young men we get are extremely bright as well!) I am loving how we are attacking in state with this class!

Thanks for sharing. We are extremely fortunate to have Greg Frey. More than anything I am excited for this season, I am pumped about the talent we've assembled on the coaching stuff. This is a true B1G staff now. I love the decision by CKW to help with the offensive position coaches so the defense could get an extra assistant coach. I truly think the investments we've made in the coaching staff will pay big dividends.

    The koolade is wearing off.

I kept saying Zander wasn't going down without a fight. This is the year (22) Zander should be physically mature and his arm strength is what it will be. It is unfair to judge his throwing ability based off of the last two years, which should have been developmental years without seeing the field. I also think a lot of Hoosiers are underestimating the advantage Zander has of knowing the playbook for two years, then compound that by how smart of a kid Zander is. Not to mention the amount of reps Zander has gotten with the first team and the chemistry developed with the receivers. CKW's offense requires a lot of on the fly thinking due to the audibles. If Lagow is having trouble with that, then the rest of his rhythm will be off (footwork, accuracy, spiral tightness, it's all connected). I have a feeling Lagow will get better as he becomes more familiar with the playbook. His ceiling that we saw in the spring game is too high for us not to give him the reps with the ones and every chance to win the job. With that said, we have a huge benefit of having all our out of conference games at the beginning of the schedule. Hypothetically, we could have ugly games for each of the first three games and come out 3-0. SEC goes into conference play week 2. It's a good chance for Lagow to get game experience and tune up the offense for Michigan Stare in October. If Lagow is bad in those first three games, we know what we have in Zander, and can adjust our game plan around that. Not ideal, but hopefully Zander's added arm strength and another year of experience can yield different results.

I'd love to beat PSU this year. They've gotten lucky the last two years as they didn't have to play us with Sudfeld. If our offense is firing on all cylinders I think we'll beat them. Franklin is notorious for having bad offenses. They won't be able to keep up with us.

(2017) OT Caleb Jones to IU

I agree but look at what we are doing instate. We are locking down Indiana. If we can get a commitment from RJ Potts, we will pretty much have all of the top players outside of Hunter Johnson and Pete Werner. Recruiting will take time. While improving, the HS talent in Indiana is not nearly to the depth of Michigan or Ohio. We are making impressive progress in Ohio and playing in the B1G East helps. Honestly, even if we win a bowl game this year we still might not get four star talent. Ohio is very difficult to recruit top talent in: even outside of OSU, Michigan and ND, you have Kentucky, MSU, Pitt, and WVU to compete against. As Indiana HS football continues to improve, then our recruiting classes will naturally get better. In the meantime, we'll continue to make progress in Ohio and supplement our classes with CKW's Chicago, Georgia and Florida pipelines. Getting consistent four star talent out of Ohio, Chicago or the South may be far fetched. I am perfectly fine with getting three star guys that fit our system. As long as we are competing against other P5 schools and not MAC schools. CKW talked about this at B1G media day: we have a system on offense that is good for developing guys and maximizing talent. We need that same type of system created on defense and have guys buy in. We have the right leaders with Coach Allen and Hagen and are finally investing in the required resources.
  11. I second this! Keep the updates coming Lucel. I might not always reply but I love reading your posts!

(2017) CB LaDamion Hunt to IU

Coach Allen, Hagen, Inge and Shelby are killing it on the recruiting trail for 2017! The sort of knowledge and recruiting talent on the defensive coaching staff is on a different level than anything CKW has had before. We are building a nice defense with true B1G talent!

    From IU to the WWE

Vince loves money more than anything else. The female target demographic is something the WWE has traditionally neglected until recently. If the WWE can cultivate a female Cena, it will mean major money because young girls will grow up watching the product following Bayley, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch. Essentially an untapped revenue source for the WWE. Vince will push the female division as much as there is demand created for it. I think they are just realizing how much they can monetize this demographic. Interviews with current female talent, sure they mention female wrestlers they looked up to, but still mostly male influences in the sport. The next generation of female wrestlers will grow up saying "I was influenced by Bayley, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, etc." The reason I think Bayley is above the rest is because of how genuine she is. Like Cena, she will never be a heel. The kids love her, adults love her. She can be cheesy like Cena, which is good because it will always warrant a crowd reaction, even if it is split and muffled boo's. Sasha Banks and Beckey Lynch are awesome, but they somewhat play a character and can be great heels. They won't always be able to do daytime talk shows and other publicity associated with baby faces. Bayley is also extremely relatable. I think the division for a long time has been ruled by stereotypical model-like looks and "silicon enhancements" (it still is to a degree with Eva Marie and Charlotte). I think that is a terrible message to send to young women, and I am glad we are seeing female talents of all different varieties.

    From IU to the WWE

I think Bayley is going to be the female version of Cena. Very well spoken, a clean cut role model, super positive message, and she has a Hispanic background which will allow her to connect with an even larger audience (not sure if she speaks Spanish but if Cena can learn Mandarin...) She will be an ambassador for the brand like Cena: TV day shows, Make A Wish, etc. I have no doubt WWE has a plan for her. They aren't going to bring her up until they are ready to legitimately have her in the title picture.

Potts would be a huge get. I love the way we are attacking in-state. This looks to be one of the deepest IN classes in awhile. Overall, I also like the defensive approach to 2017.

I'm ready for 2016 IU Football

I'm going to defend Zander once again for people who say he's not a B1G starting caliber QB. The sad fact is that Zander should have never even seen the field his first two years. I feel bad that he was not given a redshirt. In a perfect world we should have no game film to judge him on. However, he's been forced into playing time due to injuries and it hasn't always been pretty. Even still, I think it's unfair we are judging him on that body of work. How many QBs are ready to play their true freshmen and sophomore years? With that said, this will be a make or break training camp for Zander. This should be the year in his development (22 years-old) where he has put on the weight, and his arm strength is at its full potential. If he still struggles to throw the deep ball this summer, then yes, I feel like we have legitimate concern should he be our starter. However, I think we'll see a much physically stronger Zander this year. The ideal situation is that Lagow plays to his hype, takes every snap and Zander finally gets his redshirt year saving his two years of eligibility. If that is the case, it also wouldn't surprise me to see a smart kid like Zander graduate in three years and consider taking his last two years of eligibility elsewhere if Lagow is etched in as the starter for 2017. However, that is all forward thinking. I am just hoping for a FIERCE and friendly QB competition!

Troy Williams - Taiwan Beer (Taiwan Super League)

Wow you guys are hard on Troy. As bhaggard89 said, Troy has great potential to be a "3 and D" player in the pro's, and excelling in transition. Everyone is criticizing his shot. I think he gets a bad rep because he forces shots. If he worked within a system and focused on the corner three, he could be quite effective. His form isn't bad and he has a high release point. Europe would do Troy good. Coaches over there don't put up with guys who won't play in a system. He'd either conform or fail doing things his way. Europe is probably his best path to the NBA IMO. Troy has very solid potential to be the first or second guy off the bench. Athletic wings that can shoot corner threes, defend and run in transition are getting paid very well in the NBA. Teams can't have enough of these types of players. Troy has that skill set.

I'm ready for 2016 IU Football

I agree with you that having a strong armed QB is very important to our offense. Without a doubt I want to see Lagow be the guy because Cobbs, Jones and crew are best when they can stretch the defense. However, Zander has struggled because he's had to come in relief midseason the past two years. Zander doesn't have the skill set to run the same game plan that Nate ran (or Lagow will run). Unfortunately, it's very difficult to change these things in season. If Zander wins the starting job over the summer, I guarantee you CKW will have offensive game plans much more suited for Zander's skill set. Worst case scenario would be both guys do poorly over the summer and we have a game of musical chairs at the QB spot. I have a feeling Zander will come into camp bigger and stronger. Combine that with his high football IQ and this will not be an easy QB competition.

With Lagow it will be all mental. If he knows the play book he will be just fine given his physical talent. We saw a nice preview in the spring game, he is a big play QB. I worry about him versus a pass rush however, he doesn't have Nate's pocket presence at this time. If Lagow isn't comfortable with the playbook, Zander will win the job. Zander knows the playbook like the back of his hand and is not going down in this QB competition without a fight. I am not worried about QB, we have two guys who are more than capable and will push each other.

The Rock is getting new turf

Here is an article with more detail on the FieldTurf Revolution 360. Seems like a major upgrade which is catching on around the country. I wonder if our turf has the CoolPlay feature - anyway to find out? http://www.txstatebobcats.com/news/2016/6/15/general-bobcat-stadium-undergoes-turf-renovations.aspx

    More SEZ project details...

Good find, the project sounds incredible! I remember hearing a couple of our guys in the pro's have comeback and said how good IU's facilities are. This will take it to another level and should be a game changer for recruits. Very cool there will be two video boards.
