In addition, remember that Coach Allen's son is committed to IU. Hopefully that buys us some time with Coach Allen. There's no doubt Coach Allen will be a head coach some day. I just hope he holds out for a position much better than Purdoo.
  2. If you look at Cameron's high school highlights his release is very quick and compact and he does a good job of throwing on the run. He worked out of a rolled pocket a lot, so CKW would likely have to change his game plan a little to accommodate that.
  3. Yes, I do put an emphasis on arm strength in CKW's offense. However, I do agree you don't need a cannon. And Lagow's accuracy is certainly hurting the team. It's nice having a five play seventy-five yard drive like Lagow had in the fourth quarter yesterday. But it's frustrating having him miss two wide open big plays on the last drive with one of them ending in a pick. The question becomes do Cameron or Zander even have an average arm strength required to play in this offense? Sure it sucks Lagow is missing open throws downfield, but those are throws Zander probably wouldn't have even been able to attempt. I am not sure on Cameron's arm strength. One more thing about Cameron: he's still relatively new to playing QB. He was a DB and backup QB at Loyola his junior year. However, he is very intelligent and this is his third year in our program. I just want to win a bowl game. Whoever gives us the best chance that's who I'm for. At this point I am very curious about Cameron and what he can do.
  4. Sounds like you're ready to give Cameron a chance? Before transferring Catholic in Baton Rogue, Cameron went to high school at Loyola Blakefield right down the street from me in Towson, MD, when his dad was the offensive coordinator for the Ravens. I remember reading how Cameron would do QB drills with Joe Flacco. Cameron is a coach's son through and through. I'm sure he has a high football IQ, and his mechanics and accuracy are sound. Anyways I digress, I still want to see Lagow as the starter.
  5. Good point JohnsonIU about the competition. Wake Forest just held FSU to 17 points. Their defense is extremely stingy. OSU and Nebraska are obviously top ten teams. Hopefully the offense opens up as we hit this upcoming stretch. I'm excited to see what the defense does against less competition as well!
  6. I agree here. When you have a QB who isn't accurate like Lagow, momentum is of critical importance with consistency of mechanics and rhythm. IMO, if CKW had confidence in Zander's arm strength he would have called some downfield passes when Zander was in. Nebraska was stacking the box, it would have completely caught them off guard. However, we only called run plays and lateral passes, so your point #2 is true. Here are our choices: 1. Stick with Lagow and hope he gets better. I think this is our best option. As bad as it's been, Lagow is still only in his sixth game. Were our expectations for him unrealistic? He has awesome arm talent, and I want to say if he can just improve his accuracy we'll be OK, however, he still has the same mechanical problems as his JUCO videos. No lower body movements in his throws, doesn't square up for passes. Makes me think the coaches might have tried to work with him but decided it was too much to fix in a short period of time... 2. Continue to rotate Zander and Lagow. I don't like it for the reasons JSHoosier stated above, but if Lagow is in the middle of a cold streak, we may have no choice. Might be time to give Zander the whole playbook when he's in and let him sink or swim on his own. 3. Go with a completely different option in King or Cameron and open the whole playbook. Not sure either is ready for this. I like King's talent a lot, maybe he's a gamer?
  7. I think that's unfair criticism. We had an NFL QB for the last four years. 2014 was an unlucky year with injuries and late transfers. As inconsistent as Lagow has been you can't deny his talent. He was the top JUCO QB recruit. Remember we were a finalist for the top JUCO QB recruit the year before? Can't blame Chad Kelly for not wanting to sit behind Sudfeld last year. Austin King was a high three star recruit who is still only a redshirt freshman. He'll be ready to compete next year. Peyton Ramsey is a winner. Our QB situation is really no different than most P5 teams outside of the Big XII (where they don't play defense [emoji1]). You recruit kids you think fit your system. Sometimes you get lucky with a Sudfeld, most other times you're still looking for the guy. In the meantime, we may have to continue to switch between Lagow and Zander. And it's not like there's no room for Lagow to improve. He's only six games into his IU career. This will be a big offseason for him to improve mechanics and accuracy. This season is very much still alive. I think most of us had this team at 3-3 after the first six games. Purdue, Rutgers and Maryland are very winnable games, and we have a good chance against Northwestern and Penn State. The goal remains the same, win a bowl game!
  8. Last year we had the QB and not the defense, this year the opposite.
  9. This QB situation is difficult. Lagow's accuracy has become a legitimate problem. We can't afford all these missed opportunities. However, Lagow's arm is the reason these receivers are so open on these intermediate crossing routes. If Zander or Cameron is in the game, we can't call these deeper routes because they can't deliver the ball. The field gets shorter, the and defense crowds the box. We are already beat up on the offensive line, how do you think that will go? It's just so frustrating: you'll see Lagow throw a beautiful dart downfield to Jones or Paige and you're sure he's the guy. Then he misses the most routine of throws that we need to keep a drive alive. It's no coincidence our third down conversion rate is so low. I don't know what needs to happen. The fact that before the season CKW said he didn't want to shuffle QBs, but has started bringing in Zander shows a loss of confidence in Lagow Do we give Zander a chance as the starter? Maybe his arm strength has improved enough to open up the playbook. It will be really interesting to hear what CKW has to say about the QB situation.

    (2018) QB Quincy Patterson

We need to get a top QB recruit for 2018.
  11. Dan Murphy and Austin Ward pick IU this week over Nebraska. That's two out of ESPN's five B1G writers. Murphy is tied for first on the season at 46-13 and Ward is a game behind in third at 45-14.
  12. Boooommmm!!!! In state kid who chose us over Auburn and Nebraska! Let's prove him right this weekend and beat those Cornhuskers! Hopefully Potts is next! Very impressive in state class so far!
  13. Oh wow that's really cool. Will that scoreboard be updated real time with game info? Looks like there's some sort of wiring hooked up to the board.
  14. Touch situation for Camion: practices as an RB all spring then gets hurt. Rehabs, then gets moved back to WR. From a game plan perspective, it might be more difficult than it seems to get him back involved in the offense.

    Nebraska's DC Mark Banker

https://www.landof10.com/nebraska/how-nebraska-plans-on-dealing-with-indiana-stealing-defensive-signals Article with quotes to put everything into perspective. Banker sounds like a sore loser. That's called reading a defense. Do a better job of masking your defense! NFL defenses tried to steal Peyton Manning's signals for years. NFL teams will sign players off of an opponents practice squad to get signals and tendencies. It's part of the game!
  16. That most telling thing for me is how Wilkes said LA "is a pro town, where there's not a focus on one sport." That's a direct shot to what he's used to living in Indiana where it's all about basketball. Prior to that he said "I hear from (IU fans) all the time" but where he has the most fans isn't a big consideration. IMO UCLA might be most appealing to Kris because there's the least individual pressure (living in LA is also pretty awesome), but still a great chance at winning and getting NBA exposure. If Kris comes to IU, no one here can argue that, fair or not, he would have immense pressure to be a star and deliver a championship. It takes a certain type of personality to embrace that sort of pressure, Yogi had it. But I can't blame the kid at all if that's not what he wants. It's his college experience and that sort of pressure would be a huge distraction. Maybe he just wants to blend in and be part of a team. He mentioned how Illinois is like a family. Obviously on the court he'll want to be a star, but he may not want all the off-court attention that comes with that, which he would certainly get at IU. If that's the case, UCLA is probably his #1 choice, and Illinois is sorta of a compromise between IU and UCLA where there's less pressure but his family could still see him play, albeit chances of winning are lower.

True, all I was saying is Indiana HS football doesn't have much depth compared to Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and Pennsylvania (its improving though!). Even so, we are doing an awesome job in-state with this 2017 class. Have five commits already and we are in a good position with top 6 in-state recruits R.J. Potts and Kurt Rafdal. Bryant Fitzgerald will be tough to hang onto as signing day comes up, but he seems pretty enthusiastic about IUFB and Coach Allen has our defense looking really good. If we can keep the commits we have, plus get Potts and Rafdal, we will have seven commits from Indiana! All within the top 15 or so in-state prospects. When was the last time we've seen that for IUFB!? If anything, I think bad seasons by ND and Michigan State could help us in Ohio, a state we recruit heavily, as do ND and MSU, that has a lot of talent depth. There are lots of quality three star kids in Ohio that might give us more of a look.

As much as I want to win these two games, if both OSU and Michigan get into the CFP that's B1G $$$ for the conference![emoji51]

    2016 Football Schedule

Had four games on ABC last year: OSU, Michigan, Michigan State and Duke. These nationally televised games are great for recruiting! Especially the Michigan and OSU home games where we had great crowds!

Indiana HS football is usually very top heavy. Us and ND are finalists for RJ Potts, so maybe their bad season helps us a little there, although I don't think ND's bad season matters much as Brian Kelly isn't going anywhere. Potts would be an enormous get for us. A pair of Potts and fellow instate recruit Bryant Fitzgerald would be an enormous playmaking duo for our D. But with the rare top instate guys that ND would go after (for example Hunter Johnson and Pete Werner), they could go to any school in the country of their choice.

Indiana vs OSU Game Thread - 10/8 @ 3:30ET on ESPN

I didn't get to watch much of the game but it seems like we had the right formula to win the game, just a few things didn't go out way: - Have to score a TD on that first drive after the fumble. Have to score a TD off of the INT in the fourth. Field position like that is a gift. - The dropped INT in the end zone which led to OSU's first FG. - The Lagow fumble which I thought was an incomplete pass. - The kickoff return after the TD with less than two minutes. For us to beat a team as talented as OSU we need a perfect storm. Plays like those above have to go our way. I am not disappointed by our loss, I don't think we embraced ourselves. This type of game will make us better.

WOW! Have to think this will help recruiting in all sports! It's great how both Memorial and Assembly will have grand entranceways.
