I understand that but if you become classified as an actual employee of the university then I would think the scholarship itself could be categorized as their "salary" for tax purposes. I'm just wondering if that could be an unintended consequence of these efforts even if getting formally paid above and beyond a scholarship is not their top priority.

Coach Johnson takes to Twitter
bronkonagurski replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I do agree that more of a mea culpa approach would benefit him with the fan base in general but maybe he really is socially awkward (as some have said) and doesn't really see how he comes off to people. My growing concern is the loss of recruiting momentum. Tom has been great at getting Indiana in the discussion with a lot of recruits but I feel like he has lost some key battles in the last year or so (and that is not meant to be a negative comment on the 2013 kids or JB2 & RJ). I know the 2014 in-state class turned out to be a bit wonky but only coming away with JB2 out of that class still hurts. Theo Pinson...Goodluck...Noah was a great hit in his favor of course. But like with Anthony Lee, I just feel this sense of skepticism with OSU and L-ville in the hunt. I just feel like yeah, we aren't getting that one either. Maybe it is an irrational thought, I don't know. -
So if scholarships come to be considered compensation then doesn't that introduce possible tax implications for these guys? You think the IRS wouldn't like a bit more revenue? ;)

On the other hand, they could hold a press conference and say all the right things and tell the fans what they want to hear...and if the same problems spring up next season, what did it matter? The results on the court are the bottom line. They can be brutally honest or tweet sweet nothings into my ear, what happens on the court in 2014-15 is what really matters to me. I have a hard time believing this coaching staff isn't doing some kind of self-evaluation right now even if they won't admit to it publicly for ego reasons or whatever. Maybe all the bad things people say about Crean are true, but the proof will be in how the staff is able to transform the situation into a better season next year. And if it doesn't get better, then you know all you needed to know. Presser or no presser. -
Hollowell & Etherington transferring..
bronkonagurski replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Honestly I don't find it to be a mind-blowing discovery that each kid is treated differently and to some extent based on talent level. If I'm getting paid millions to coach in a pressure cooker then I'm sure as hell not treating my lottery picks the same as the other guys. Now granted, you have to find the right balance. No I'm not a coach so I'm just talking out my wazoo but to me it still makes sense. -
Leaving for the NBA....the facts and the myths...
bronkonagurski replied to Bk4life's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Fact - whether you like or not, until the NBA draft entry rules change then you are going to continue to see kids go pro more often than not when they are projected as lottery picks. It doesn't matter what myths people do and do not perpetuate. -

Good to see the "rumor mill" has decided to accuse darn near every player on the team of failing a drug test. Pathetic people. -
OT: Shaka Smart to Marquette?
bronkonagurski replied to hoosierpap's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
They would be better off going after Howland. Shaka has been kind of exposed since his magical Final Four run. Running a full court press and pretending you invented something new by giving it a catchy name like Havoc is cute and all but...his teams look like a hot mess when they can't get those turnovers. -

The thing is, the people doing those things you just mentioned likely aren't even posting on this message board. They are not going to hear your message in this forum. These types of posts tend to be taken as criticism of message board criticism which to me, venting on this forum is fair game. Taking to social media to rumor-monger and spread false rumors and hate, that is a whole different ball of wax. And yes some good news would be VERY welcome about now! -
What ever happened to that weird hoosiertildeath guy that used to start a new thread for every Butler loss? Did he get banned?

Now, now, she has had a rough time in the last year. She has been forced to transition from Cody to Luke to Max H. That is an emotionally demanding amount of change for any person to handle. :)

Indiana Transfers Impact This Season
bronkonagurski replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Honestly I have no trouble believing this and it is something I've thought and said multiple times over the course of the season. I believe the overall regression in his game from Year 1 to Year 2 is a clear sign that he wasn't putting in the work. -
Indiana Transfers Impact This Season
bronkonagurski replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Individually none of these transfers necessarily concerns me THAT much but it is just the collective effect of having already lost Fischer and Noah going pro in addition to 3 players leaving plus the possibility for more changes...it just leaves me feeling uneasy. It could well be that Crean recruits sharply to fill the 3 open scholarships, the returning players work hard and we end up with a surprisingly improved team in '14-'15. But until the dust settles, it is hard for me accurately assess how I feel about the entire thing. -
They actually got it right, color me amazed!

What in the wide world of sports was that?

Look here woman, never question the heart of a champion and NEVER question the heart of a bronk! And somehow this smiley just seems appropriate here for no good reason! :farting_smiley:

YOU TAKE THAT BACK! :rtfm:

I think I'd rather have multiple root canals then watch UK win another title.
-
Now I have to cheer for Pitino for a game, smh.

It is going to be like a Hee Haw convention in Indy on Friday, wow!
-
Greg Anthony is enjoying UK's run a bit too much.

I guess a lack of experience did catch up with them. None of these super stud frosh are going to make the Sweet Sixteen. Parker, Wiggins, now it is Randle's turn to go home. Go Shockers!
