Troy Williams returning to IU!!!!!!

What do you think journalism is? Reporting. You always verify. Ok, so he saw it on social media. Dig a little deeper. You do your homework. -

Still, it's bad journalism. You want an answer you go straight to the source. I see your point, but any responsible reporter of any kind would surely look to something more concrete than a Facebook post. -

So much for Facebook official. Rabjohns and others really need to use real sources and vet those sources before making themselves look absolutely stupid. -

The fans aren't going to the games?
Woodsonshump replied to ALASKA HOOSIER's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Nowhere did I ever reference CTC in my post. I meant it as a general point about yet another reason attendance might dwindle. There is more to the game than just the game itself. People derive their entertainment from multiple levels at any sporting event. You missed the entire point of my post. -
The fans aren't going to the games?
Woodsonshump replied to ALASKA HOOSIER's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I've read this thread with a lot of interest, and I have to say that most everybody that has offered up their opinion has a valid point to some degree. One thing I was just sitting here thinking about -- please bear with me while I try to phrase this without sounding like I want the "back in the day" thing -- is this... When RMK coached, we all know the quality product he put on the floor, but he also had layers to him. Not only was he a master of the game, but he was a colorful coach. Consciously or not (I prefer to think he crafted a lot of it purposely), he put on a show inside of the show, and fans ate it up. He was known for his antics during press conferences. Think about it... The Big 10 had Knight and his antics (some great, others boorish), there was Keady with his combover, yet fiery and full of his own antics. There was Jud Heathcote, who could be colorful in his own way. Hopefully you follow what I'm trying to say here. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I think we (IU & the Big 10 in general) could benefit from a new generation of colorful coaches. Right now, Izzo and Ryan, in my opinion are about the most colorful and demonstrative coaches we have. Admittedly, fans turned out en masse to see IU play some kick butt hoops, but I'll submit that darn near equally, fans turned out to see what RMK would do each game. Things are pretty vanilla in the coaching ranks these days, IMHO. The Knight/Keady rivalry that existed inside of the IU/Purdue rivalry, for instance. Not only were these coaches masters of the game, but they were masters of entertaining the crowds as well. Guess I've rambled enough on this, don't know if it made any sense or not, but I think we need coaches that are willing to liven things up inside of the game atmosphere. Hey, get T'd up and get the boot a little more often. Knight used to hike his sweater half way up and walk around with his hands on his head. Stuff like that keeps the fans wondering what coach is going to do next! Put some color back into coaching, not just this buttoned down Wall Street look! Develop that coaching persona that makes people crave not only the rivalry, but also the show within the show! Just my .02 cents worth, your mileage may vary! -

Tom Crean piss and moan thread with a little sunshine (lol)

Let's be honest. You can't spell, and you don't know a damn thing about what you're talking about. Now, that said, IU offers stellar education whereby you can rectify problem #1, and unless your last name becomes Glass, you'll never know what "has" to happen next season, therefore, problem #2 only exists in your mind, and doesn't concern you one bit in the least.

My only question for you at this point is this. Who have you spoken with in the "basketball world" that you can definitively say thinks coach can't win with this group? Then, I'd probably have to ask on whose authority do you speak that these two recruits won't help out anyway?

I mean, did it come to you in a dream? Were you intoxicated, or otherwise mentally incapacitated when you arrived at these many conclusions? I'm really curious to know what your state of mind was, and what bridge were you standing upon when you decided to make these oh so deep pronouncements?

Frankly, I don't mind getting these 2-3 star players. We all know how chasing the rainbow has turned out for us with 4-5 star guys, so how about we just recruit some hard working guys who have flown under the radar? You know, the ones who might actually be inclined to stay a full 4 years? Novel thought, wouldn't you say?

Nah, that thought never crossed your mind, though.

Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
Or it could say Hanner got off lucky but you two are about to get your nuts cut off.

Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

And CTC doesn't get paid 3 million a year to have to explain anything to you, either.

To think that people actually sit around thinking of yet another way they can rupture their spleens online is beyond me. Get a life. :scratchhead: -

Could this season be a good thing?
Woodsonshump replied to coonhounds's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
And you applied for the job when? And why was it you were turned down for it? Might watch who you call "you people" and talk down to on here too. Must be too many welding flashes that's affected you or something. :scratchhead: -
When do the repeated calls for something to happen that clearly is not going to happen right now stop? Listen, nobody on any of these boards will disagree that this season was a disappointment. We get it. We also get that you (and others) want to put this coach on the next Malaysian jet out of the country. At some point, you (and every other person who is not contributing anything to the positive direction of the board discussion), have to get it through your heads that this coach is going nowhere right now. In a year? Maybe. Two years? Who knows? The one thing we all know is that it is not happening now. Said it before, and I'll say it again... a healthy dose of moderation will stop a lot of this garbage. Yeah, feel free to disagree, but quit recoiling in angst when someone takes a position that doesn't match up with yours. For once, I'd like to see someone who can voice their disappointment, yet make some sort of an attempt to keep encouraging both this COACH, and this TEAM, to be the best they can be. Stop the snarkiness, stop the petulance, and accept what isn't going to happen and encourage those who are in place right now to do the best job they possibly can. Enough of the whining and stomping of feet because you and your subgroup aren't getting your way in this matter (like IU's brass really cares, anyhow). What you fondly like to call "excuses" is actually called an opposing viewpoint. Calling it something it is not (excuses) shows your inability to accept a viewpoint that differs from your own. Yeah, you might have the "right" to say what you want here (you actually have no rights at all), but it doesn't always make it the intelligent thing to say.

Honestly, I don't think many people were interested in IU at that time.

Yogi-"roller-coaster season"
Woodsonshump replied to yogisballin's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If you watched all the videos of the player interviews after the game, the one consistent theme I heard from virtually every player was this -- a failure to communicate.

You can chalk this up to youth, poor leadership, poor chemistry, or any one of a number of things. I've thought and said all season long there is a chemistry issue within this team.

I believe coach has taught them the right things, right up to even demanding it from them during games. However, all the demands in the world are useless if you have chemistry issues within the team. And no, a coach can't always fix that. You try, but in the end, you just can't fix what someone else doesn't want fixed.

I'd say look for some purging to go on during the postseason, after some come to Jesus meetings.

Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
Well, might as well lump the last 4 coaches IU has had into that group too. IU has never fared well in the Big Ten Tournament. Look it up.
-
Well, I wasn't necessarily thinking back that far. :)

Back in the day, they used to.

Well... OK.

I never quoted you.

Gee, Tom Crean went to 2 sweet 16's in his first 5 years here. Your point? I haven't seen anyone reference 11-16 years of a rebuild. Please direct me toward that particular reference, if you will. The man's contract is for 10 years. You're all sideways over one down season so far. One. Uno. Plus, your down season that you're all bent about is still a winning season. Right now, all you're doing is helping to fuel this McDonald's generation that wants it all yesterday and doesn't think they have to wait on it. Absolutely horrible logic. Go ask John Calipari how his McDonald's basketball approach is working out for him. Yeah, he got one title, but you can chalk that up to a perfect storm of the right prima donna players that came together at the right time and managed to get along. You see how last season and this season is going for them. In fact, Florida is further ruining their season by 19 as I type! I'll say this much. I firmly believe the product of the product you're seeing on McCracken Court this season is the result of things going on behind the scenes and off the court, not because of what you're seeing on the court or the man pacing the sidelines. Something is amiss behind the scenes. Chemistry, attitudes, whatever, we simply don't know. But something is amiss behind the scenes.

Wow, way to engage someone by saying that because someone differs on an opinion of yours that they don't want to get back to national contender status, or that they are settling for less? Gee, I really didn't realize we have to have preprogrammed brains that tell us all to march in lock step and talk, think, and act alike. Might want to rethink your logic there. Some of us are simply looking at this thing a little more broadly, and are willing to be more patient. That does not equate to anyone here not wanting the exact things you (or any other dissenter, for that matter) want. You want to voice your opposition to the state of the program, those on the opposing side are just as entitled to voice their support for it. Cuts both ways, friend.
-
Like I said, you're free to disagree. This is my take on things. Not looking to argue, in fact, I won't do it. I've read your opinion, you've freely stated it, now I've stated mine. My contention is... well, I've already said my contention. If you can't see what I'm saying through what I just wrote, there's no sense writing it again.

The biggest thing the IUBB program needs right now is mega stability. The biggest thing IU fans need right now is just what was mentioned above. A buttload of patience. Trust me, 6 years in, we haven't even begun to scratch the surface of patience. I'd just about be willing to bet my next paycheck that, while on the surface, this program looks like it is back, there's still a lot of stuff that still is being ironed out and rebuilt. Throw what you think of Crean out the door for a moment. Don't even factor that in. There is no disputing the fact that this coach has been EXACTLY what IU has needed with regard to rebuilding. None of us here know exactly where the program is right now. We only know what we see, and what it appears to be. Now, you can take that and choose to run with it and say it's back, but I'm not so sure of that position. I think CTC is still rebuilding relationships as it pertains to recruiting that were shattered over the last dozen or so years. I think CTC, while he has a very solid foundation laid that was visibly apparent when he made the decision to gut the program the rest of the way and start from scratch, is still fine tuning the culture, the operations, the people he recruits, and even the staff he employs. I just honestly believe that what we see isn't what it is. That's where my call for extended patience comes in. I know folks will disagree with what I've said, but I think that to get to where we all want to be, the last thing we need is more turbulence in the program. We need that extended period of stability, and allow the remainder of this rebuild that we aren't seeing to play out.
