I don't see how you could achieve the highest possible goal for the team and then fire the coach and say it wasn't good enough. I'd keep him in that scenario.

Seth Davis just tweeted that he's heard some Brad Stevens chatter with the Texas job. Probably much ado about nothing, but thought I would throw it in.

Thoughts on WSU Coach Gregg Marshall

Sad thing is he couldn't do anything about it then even if he wanted to. He can't risk how it would look if he fired Crean for not getting 1 recruit.

Conferences & schools typically make a lot more from football in the power 5 leagues. But the NCAA itself may make more from basketball b/c it has the contract for the tourney's TV rights. It doesn't have any TV deals for the football playoff - that all runs through the conferences. I don't have the actual numbers though.

I believe he also left Oklahoma with more NCAA problems regarding the Tiny Gallon situation. I don't know that he had anything to do with it, but it happened on his watch.

Could it just be a sign that Seltzer is going to be named to the assistant position and that we're going to start pushing in the South/Alabama again? I've reached the point where I have no hope for a coaching change, sadly. -

I'm not 100% on this but I don't think a player can switch from an athletic scholarship to an academic scholarship to free up a spot. This was discussed quite a bit in 2012 and I think the clarification we got was that the kid, in this case Zeisloft, would still count against the 13 limit. -
Tom Crean to Alabama Rumor Thread
CottageGrove replied to birdy_19's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Since so many of them think they can get Stevens I think it says more about them than it says about Crean. -
Apparently your direction is the magic touch here. I had tried it this morning with luck. Tried it again after reading your post and it's working just fine now.

Is anyone else having trouble with the app? I have an LG G3, and the app worked fine for a while. It stopped working a couple weeks ago and hasn't worked since. I've tried uninstalling and re-downloading several times to no avail. When I open the app it pulls up the screen with the center court logo and seems to freeze at that point.

These alternates would be a great transition to a more modern uniform. Like many have said - small updates, more modern cut, and homage to our tradition. I'd still love to see script Indiana. Maybe next year's alternates, I suppose.
-
I thought they looked great, and would have loved to see the cream version. Like LI said too, I would love to see a version with script Indiana on the front instead of the normal block letters.

I agree with your point to Hova about spending too much money for the classes we've been getting, but it's not $2.8M for 2 players as you said in the post I'm quoting. For that argument to work the annual budget would have to be way higher than $700k/year. That would suggest that $700k in each of 2014, 2013, 2012 and 2011 was dedicated to obtaining only Morgan and OG. But if the budget was $700k/year then how did we get all of the other players we've gotten in that time span, if in fact all $700k was dedicated to just those two guys. I think the reality is is that the $700k paid for all of the recruiting activities associated with that year, whether it be to go watch Juwan and OG or to go see others or whatever. But part of that money will pay off with whoever we get in 2016, 2017, etc. Regardless, I agree we spend way too much money for the results we're getting in terms of wins and losses. To that I think most of us can agree.
-
I don't think that's complete either. If you're using a rolling 4 years, and $700k/yr to get to $2.8M, then instead of just OG and Juwan you have add in all of the players added in the last 4 years, Troy, Stan, JBJ, Johnson, Priller, April, Holt, Z, Yogi, Hanner, et al. I don't think the argument means too much either way, but to be consistent you would to include all of the players from the last 4 years if you're going to sum up all of the money over the last 4 years.

I wouldn't be so quick to lump Archie Miller in with the other names on your list. He's doing a nice job, for sure. But right now his resume doesn't look all that different from Crean's resume at Marquette. If IU were to go get him I'd root like heck for him, but right now he wouldn't be in my top 5 to pursue.

Is this the worst defensive team in IU history?

(2016) C Thon Maker
CottageGrove replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Is it possible that all the talk about Crean leaving was just talk and never really had legs to it? That's the most logical thing to me at this point - otherwise I can't imagine why Thon & Bryant would visit at this point. -
Potential fallout from coaching change
CottageGrove replied to HoosiersLoveBanners's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think it's possible both sides are right and wrong at the same time. By that, what I mean is that they may all be hearing the things they say they're hearing. Where they could be going wrong is assuming that their particular inside source's story is set in stone. Maybe there are two sides with the administrations, BOT, etc. Each side may believe that what they're saying is the end game and is spreading their side of it as such. I say all of this as someone who has absolutely no inside sources aside from a Peegs premium membership that involved my first ever trip to their "chat" the other night. I'm also in the group that's ready to move on as I just don't think the situation is repairable at this point. It feels pretty similar to the end of the Davis era at this point. -
Potential coaching change suggestions
CottageGrove replied to Bryan Medema's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I agree that money can sway a coach, but Harbaugh isn't the best example. His salary with UM is the same as it was with the 49ers. And I would wager other NFL franchises would have been in line with that dollar amount as well. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000451785/article/jim-harbaughs-salary-with-michigan-same-as-it-was-with-niners -
Potential fallout from coaching change
CottageGrove replied to HoosiersLoveBanners's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
My whole point there was that I don't think IU can afford $10M/year after it was suggested we make Stevens the highest paid coach in the country, not that we couldn't offer more than Stevens currently makes. -
Potential fallout from coaching change
CottageGrove replied to HoosiersLoveBanners's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm not sure we would lose a ton of players. Not every coaching transition goes the way 2008 did for us. There may be a guy here or there that goes, but most of the team will stay. I agree with you that I don't think Stevens leaves the Celtics. Maybe he decides someday that he doesn't want to be in the NBA, but I don't think he jumps ship after just 2 years. -

Would you settle for the 2nd highest paid coach? Coach K is at $9.7M/year now according to USAToday.com (Crean isn't listed b/c it only included coaches in the tourney last year, I believe). http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/salaries/mens-basketball/coach
