I don’t know, I have thought that as well. I don’t know if the team is good enough to throw words like “better” around. I think they are a different team. Maybe not better or worse, but different. De’Ron is matchup dependent. This might have been a game where we might have missed him inside. He’s got good footwork and size, can dominate certain matchups. I think he would also be missed when we face teams with legit, back to the basket, big men in the near future. Our offense is different when he’s not there at times. We get stagnant, and like in this one, we settle for perimeter shots from guys who can’t shoot it well. Sometimes I found myself wishing we could just dump it down to De’Ron and let him go get us 2. Since the Wisconsin game, these guys are really dominating the glass. Tonight our defensive rebounding percentage was 83%. That’s not just good, it’s outstanding. Held PSU to just 5 offensive rebounds, yielding just 4 second chance points. To me that tells the story about the roll effort, energy and toughness are going to play in the success of this team. Good win. Great effort by JUMO. 39 minutes? 39? Strong. Nice to see us finish that at the free throw line. Won it for us actually. I disagree about our guard play in this. We had 5 guys, including Green and Newkirk that scored in double figures. We needed that. Having three people score is simply not sustainable. Some herky-jerky play from just about everyone, but PSU is an above average defensive team. I thought we handled it well. This shouldn’t have been as close as it was.
