    College Bball Thread

You saying you don’t agree with the Twitter take, or that you believe what Davison did was ridiculous? If it’s the former, you should know that it’s not the first occurrence of that kid deliberately trying to injure an opposing player. I’m hoping you thought it was dirty. I will respect your opinion of course, should it differ from mine. But, I have about 20 more videos to show you. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

First time getting opportunity to watch Tennessee this season. Wicked fast and athletic. A lot of length on the ball. Not a huge team overall. Hasn’t stopped them from blocking shots though. High level athletes.....High. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

    Injury Updates

I’d have to think it would be a while before he’s back full and ready for the court. Maybe he gets his wind back fast, who knows. Even if he’s not ready to play games, I bet he’s a great guy to have in practice to go against every day. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Great stuff. Didn’t see this till after my last was already sent out. I see now why people were so eager to have him back. Sounds like he could play a big role as a junior/senior. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

So it was an injury. I did not know that. That’s encouraging. Not his injury, but that you seem to think he can play. He a Justin Smith athletic type? As good or better? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

    Injury Updates

Speaking of Race, do you know anything about him 7878? Does anybody? Anybody know his HS numbers? I only saw him play 1 game, couple mop up minutes tops. I’ve never entered a conversation about him before because I always assumed he was bench mob material. The redshirt I guess, gave me pause considering it was not injury related. With the amount of people anticipating his return, I thought I’d ask about it. I had previously figured him as an end of the bench type. That not the case? IUBB @ MSU- Game Thread

I still like watching games like that though. The “let em play” games. Love uncalled contact if it’s both ways. I do agree with calling a foul in the Morgan situation. That loose ball situation needs adjustment for sure. It’s not a fumble, and nobody is wearing pads and a helmet. I don’t want to go back to the days when every loose ball would end up in a traveling call but, a bit of regulation might prevent injury there. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Most of his mistakes via turnover I can live with. They are frustrating certainly, but if you lose the ball or throw it away trying to make a play, I won’t ride you for it. I think he gets a bad wrap from people just waiting for a chance to pile on the kid. There’s a whole lot of players out there with worse numbers. The stuff I can’t live with are the low BBIQ plays he makes. The stuff he does every now and again that puts the game in jeopardy. Take the late turnover he had against State for example. In my opinion, that was a case of him not understanding what was happening, not understanding time, and not understanding the moment. The second he caught and crossed half-court, I started screaming “TRAP!” I’m sure you all did. I say with confidence that all of us saw it coming immediately. I felt there was plenty of time to avoid it with the dribble. He froze though. Dribbled back to mid court and waited for it to come. I ask myself though, “Did he freeze? Or did he not recognize it for what it was?” I truly believe it’s the latter. Top that off with having the lead and a timeout in your pocket. BBIQ plays, that’s what Archie needs to work on with him. Changing the way he plays with the ball only handcuffs the kid. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

You may. It is not patent pending. Had this ex girlfriend who’s left nipple did not function when given proper attention. She had that weak-titty see. She was a flopper too. Oh yeah, that girl wound up on her back a whole bunch. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

The one charge call I cannot abide over all others is this. The ball handler drives and gets even with the defender. The defender gives ground and sprints along side the ball. At the last second, leaps in front of the ball handler, with absolutely no intention of keeping his feet. Then pushes off his feet at the inevitable point of contact and slides 10 feet back like he was steam rolled. That call is 100% bull crap and it is the new weapon of the University of Wisconsin. Pack line defense..

True in my opinion as well. Many of our games have been played in the 60’s to low 70’s. That gives any team a fighting chance. The only thing about it that really seems to bother me is that it seems so terribly susceptible to dribble penetration late in the clock. Anytime actually. Now that should definitely not be the case. Hell its probably easier to penetrate a 2-3 with the dribble than it is a pack line. It’s not taking more than a ball screen really. I can’t figure what’s going wrong there. It’s a player thing over a systematic thing though. I’m pretty convinced of that. Hope they can plug that because we’re not always going to get shot blocking at the rim. I’d really love it if they would can the hook&hold stuff and address the flop issue over the off season. Offensive fouls are meant to be about player control and the right to defensive position. It’s nothing close to that anymore. It’s about tricking the zebras into blowing a whistle by acting like you were fouled. The better the act, the more likelihood of a call. That’s not what I wish to see in a basketball game. I call it cheating personally. The B1G wants itself to be perceived as a tough, physical, league yet it allows half its teams to make that type of weak-titty plays to change the games. If half your teams are weak-titty fakes, then your league isn’t known as tough, it’s just known as weak-titty. I apologize for the language, most of that is Badger hatred pouring out in print. We are one of the few teams that doesn’t seem to attempt drawing charges, much less flops. I often wonder if it comes down to coaching philosophy. The flop I mean. It always seemed to me that teams like Wisky and Purdue are flop happy teams. I believe it’s taught. Like it’s part of the system. Been that way for years. Other teams don’t do it at all. Like us and Illinois. Always wondered why that is. I’d be a non flop coach I think, mostly because it always seemed 50/50 to me. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Improper length to width ratio. What I mean is, MSU presents a particular problem for a guy like Moore. Ward and Tillmann both outweigh him by 40 and 50 pounds respectfully. The US Dept. of Weights and Measures claims this is enough to stand him up, and wheel his butt out of the paint like he was strapped to a refrigerator dolly. Or it could just be that Davis was playing well and Jake is more physical. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I disagree in part with the non factor bit. He and Green defended the MSU guards very well. Winston had 25 pts. But took 23 shots to get there. I believe he only was able to get free for a made shot in the lane 4 maybe five times all game. The rest came on 5 3’s contested for the most part, outside of offensive rebound breakdowns. The other guard didn’t get s***. Well under average. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Who do we need more? That’s the argument here? We’re trying to figure out if Greens absence held sway in the losing streak right? Or McBob playing? Or Fitzner over Jake & Moore? I think I know the answer. But it depends on what you are looking for. I’m looking for the best chance IU has to win a game. The best chance for sustained success, through fatigue, through foul trouble, through every conceivable offensive and defensive challenge. What do you want? If it’s the same, then the answer is so painfully clear. All of them. IU needs every available player on its roster, in every game. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

    Pack line defense..

Answer: they hedged with Smith and Forrester instead of using the center (Morgan and Davis). Completely new and effective. For the sake of this thread, that’s exactly what UVA does. Had to be a major adjustment for Smith. Very well done. #2 Blind post to post double, vacating the off-ball wing. Not unusual. But watch Durham. In previous games, like I said earlier in another post, he or any 2 would rotate toward the off ball corner. Easy kick to a wing 3. Now I see they are sagging him to the free throw line extended corner. The elbow if you will. Better in my opinion because the doubled player can’t see the baseline corner to pass anyway. His only kick is wing. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
