Old Friend, In regard to Justin, are you speaking of his shooting which has shocked you? I am not sold on his shot from distance as of yet. We’ve talked on the board about how his shot looks better, and it does, but slightly only. I’m not trying to be negative or bagging on the kid. Not at all. Hear me out here guys. It looks to me like his release is still not at the high point of his jump. It very much looks to me like he’s letting go on the downslope. I’m overjoyed that he has managed to knock a few down, I just wonder how sustainable that motion is. If he keeps dropping a few, great! But if he hits a cold snap, it could end like last season. Smith was left wide open on the perimeter just as much as Mcbob last year. Because they baited him into shooting it. And it worked. What I’m wondering with all that, my question, Does anyone else notice his mechanics? Am I seeing things? Edit: I’m going on record to say I don’t want him taking more than 2. Make or miss. I agree. Certainly, there was excitement early on last year as well, however I remember there being an uneasy feeling underneath, for me. Last years team turned it over way too much early on, missed free throws at a dangerous clip, Was comically bad in transition, and had just 1 true rotation that could score. I know that feeling was on this board. That uneasy feeling when the injuries began. We were a key injury away from complete disaster. This year does feel different, regardless of competition. I myself am struggling with how to explain why it feels different. There’s a different maturity I guess. Depth. I’m don’t find myself thinking “oh no, not this lineup again, or not these guys, why are they in the same lineup?” They are more confident? Seem better prepared? I don’t know. God knows what the final outcome will be. I truly believe though, whether the record turns out good or bad, that this team will be more fun to watch and less frustrating as a whole than in previous years. I think Joey read your post. I wasn’t really impressed with him either to be honest. I started to think about it a little and I don’t think we really need him to be overwhelming Bob. He’s working hard on the defensive end. He’s big enough to change shots underneath, and if he pulls down 6-8 boards, chips in 6-8 pts on putbacks and freethrows? Shoot Bob, I’m a happy man. Tonight’s opponent should go a long way to answering none of my many questions about the squad. What can one glean from a matchup this lopsided? 40 minutes then fellas. Want to schedule from the bottom of D1? Fine. I have no problem with that, save one. Treat them that way then. Destroy them. Beat them down from the opening tip to the final whistle. Although Troy will be receiving a check, make them feel like they are the ones who really had to pay. When they go to cash that check, I want them to die a little inside, thinking of what they were made to endure in getting it. Definitely looking forward to the tougher part of the schedule to see how they handle it. I think I’m more interested to watch this one than I was last year. I too believe this team could be good. Hitting shots is going to be a difference maker for sure. I liked what Brian Butch said tonight about the Indiana team being balanced on offense and defense. He said “balanced teams can be dangerous teams”. I believe this to be true from what I’ve seen so far. The results of the last two contests have been confusing to me in that at times, the team looks really to be more on par with their competition, and then bang! They take off like a fighter jet. Really don’t know yet what they truly are. Right now, could finish anywhere from 1st to worst. Butch is right though, this team can be dangerous. Takes them a while to feel the other side out is all. For what it’s worth, MU fans on the site are claiming this photo is from this weekend.....I reside approximately 1 hour East of where this photo was taken. This leads me to part of a response you left me about the IU noncon schedule in the last prediction league thread. I said “How is this ok”. You replied “NCAA valued quantity over quality last year so everybody is scheduling these type of games”. I couldn’t reply because it was locked so I’ll ask here. First, if everyone decided to go with a weaker non con, why did we then decide to go with the weakest of the weak if you will? Second, What if the committee decides to go a different way this year? I like the risky nature of that though. I think that team is mentally tough at least, if not so terribly talented. They can handle it though. I think that constant ball pressure would be a real mother to deal with early on. They were a favorite of mine towards the end of last season. Balls to the wall for 40. Could trip someone.
