I disagree. Liked that lineup with Davis. Taco Fall Jr. can’t budge him. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

Prediction League (Game 14 - @ Maryland 1/4/20)

Can’t shoot, turnover machine, couldn’t hit a free throw if their lives depended on it. Simply outmatched at every single position including the coaching positions. Just the type of game Indiana wins. IU 73 Maryland 71 Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

I’m convinced of it. That Nebraska just simply played above their potential Friday. It happens with some regularity in Div 1. Even with Indiana in past times. That said, there is also no question that our defensive system has certain flaws which allow middling teams to gain confidence and comfort given that there is a specific, known, blueprint on how to defeat it. We need to figure out a way to keep perimeter players in front without any overhelp which keeps leading to open looks. Teams will spread it out and ball screen until they get a mismatch. It’s what I’d do. Rob will help with that some, but all the guys have to work very hard on fighting through those screens. We over help unnecessarily in these situations. Good thing is, not all teams can play 5 out. Against those clubs, IU bigs can back off and play the same game Nebraska used against us...Goad non-shooters into taking the shots we want them to take. Might not be able to fix everything this year, or any other. This is a talented team of smart, quick, athletic players. If we can’t make the system hum with these guys, who does it take then? Yup Cujo was on. I now have anxiety about him going off against IU in some sort of revenge/redemption game. If it was going to happen it would definitely be against us. And him going bonkers in an upset win over KU was the best of his career. Glad he seems to have landed on his feet. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Would you be satisfied if we won half the remaining games?
cappymo14 replied to RaceToTheTop's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I don’t believe I’d be satisfied with that, although I also wouldn’t complain much. I think we need to have a winning record over the last 20. I think the noncon schedule is more of a problem than we are willing to admit. I think this because it’s been specifically mentioned multiple times a game by announcers from all over the country. Take both of the ND/ARKY games and go even through B1G makes us a lock. Has to make the NCAA this season for me. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

After watching the game again this morning, I think I’ll put some things out there. The consensus is that though this was a win, it’s an embarrassment. Ugly-win. Maybe. Why though? Because Nebraska was easily handled and badly out scored in previous games? One thing though, nobody ever mentioned who played really, really well. Better than I’d seen all year. Nebraska did. I believe what we saw was a team that everyone expected to lay down, decided not too. They played excellent basketball. They made tough shots, played together, found a weakness and exploited it as long as they could. We should have won comfortably on paper. Wasn’t played on paper though. We saw a team that gave their best possible effort and still came up short. Caught them on a bad night is what I’m saying. Indiana turns it over and has glaring deficiencies on the defensive end of the floor. I believe the defensive woes to be systematic in nature and fixable if the coaching staff adjusts. It wasn’t an embarrassment though. Not at all. They will have learned something about their defense and how teams plan to attack. A lot of players had good games on both ends. Wasn’t a one man show. That’s a good thing. Deron Davis had good minutes, Joe Brunk did good things as well. Justin Smith, Al, Hunter. All positive. Rob and Green too. All the guys had a positive column that was taller than the negative. Not even ugly really. A team came in to AH and played surprisingly tough, and we matched every run they had. On to the next one. Can’t justify Franklin taking 4 from distance right now. Normally I’d say if provided a nice open look, go ahead and shoot yourself out, but he’s missing by miles. He too quick to huck it. Would like to see him look to penetrate first. He’s open for a reason lately, and he’s not Romeo, but the kid passes well off the bounce and a couple nice assists to other shooters might help jump start his confidence. Also think we are in for much more of this type of game. Nebraska spread out the D, blew right past on the perimeter and either went straight to the cup, or kicked for wide @$$ open threes. We had no answer or strategy to stop this? As a pac line? I’ve said this every time and nobody ever has a response to explain how dribble penetration is so easy against a defense which is designed to stop one thing...dribble penetration. Hope it was send a message time for Green and Durham. If they are both injured, we have bigger problems. Durham took a nasty spill there. Hearing rumors Green was hurt. Not cool. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
