See so many here, and on betting sites, kind of blindly choosing the ACC champs. Thing is, they lost some 70% of their scoring from last year’s championship squad. They are still formidable, but I see this playing out similar to last season. It’s just game 2 on the season for FSU with just a cupcake as a warmup. The Indiana defense is far superior to the North Texas barber college. Indiana’s defense should win the day. Still, this team has to hit some open looks from deep. Ball has to move like a hot potato. The secret got out later last season and there is no putting it back in the bag. Expect them to pack the paint and force TJD’s right hand. Hitting a couple early bombs obliterates that plan. Most important stat you can look for in this game, and most games this year, are the rebound numbers. If IU can match or stay close, or if IU guard rebounds are high, that is very good for Indy. So USPS, Wisky is a really good team. That I won’t debate. However, when I saw that they were ranked in the top 5, I said no way. They can light it up from 3 at times but just like any other team, they suffer some “off”shooting nights. Thing is, even that doesn’t stop them from hoisting 25+ attempts. Hahaha! Baby brother strikes again!! The UW signature running flop attempt fails and is called correctly by the officials. That can be called no other way than a block. I hope the rest of the ncaa officials will call that flop the same way this season. Wisconsin has made hay off of that running, jump in front, and fall flop for years. Yeah, it’s just not going to be a big part of their game. I know y’all want to light it up from deep, but it isn’t the team strength and in fact, steals attempts from the focus of your offense. Attempts from deep need to be limited to under 15/game in my opinion. We shoot under 30% as a team which basically means a 3 point attempt is a turnover. Many of your backboard smashing , clanked, 3point turnovers lead to scores on the other end. I saw several posters complaining that we were “passing up” open shots on the perimeter today....you bet your @$$ they were. Your horse had 31 down low today. I’m not really that worried about the season yet. I agree with the guy who said Archie assembled a flawed roster for the style of play he implemented. (Waynefleek?) But, I also think the known deficiency in perimeter shooting can be improved if the right people start taking them. Today IU attempted just 10. That’s fine. Limiting attempts is what I’ve said needs to happen if it’s a weakness. Problem comes when 8 of the 10 come from unproven or historically bad shooters. Lander, Galloway, Thompson, Franklin. 1 for 8. In the case of the young guys, I want those guys to go through the process, get position and take a good shot. I want them to get experience and find the range in these early games, but within reason. A 3 point attempt is a turnover for this team right now so it has to be a solid open look. I like this group of guys. For the first time in many years I can honestly say I absolutely adore every player. It’s so nice not secretly waiting on a certain player to graduate. I think they will be fine. Might have some bumps early on but I feel the season will be looked upon favorably. Defense is where it’s at.
