IUBB vs Butler - 12/19/20 Crossroads Classic @ 11:30 a.m. ET

I had a feeling the +\- numbers would be favorable when Rob was on the court. People were kind of bagging on him and I was thinking the whole time that the lineups he was in had to be pretty high on that scale. Good to see it reflected here. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

Damon Bailey. Back when he was in HS, I lived in Wisconsin. My father was an IU alum so I would watch available games with him. I was a fan but at the age of 10 I really wasn’t that excited beyond spending time with the old man. We began hearing stories on the news about this HS kid from Indiana for whom 15,000-20,000 fans were showing up to watch him play on a Friday night. In Wisconsin we heard this. The news sparked my interest in learning more and eventually I talked my father into taking me to watch my first game at AH in his freshman season. We waited around after the game and were able to walk onto the court. I only was able to get within about 20yards of the dude but man, being on that court was so breathtaking. Please, never stop allowing that at IU. Man, those teams were so damn good. How they didn’t win a title in the early 90’s is a f-ing mystery to me. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
Franklin with b2b career highs and played tough on defense. The turnover numbers diminish his claim slightly but, a couple of those were offensive fouls that were suspect at best. Good outweighs the bad. Franklin should get the trophy this time with TJD a very close, coin-flip 2nd. 5 blocks added to a very respectable stat line. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Somewhat sloppy in the first I’d agree; however, I’d like to offer a different perspective. Turnovers were padded by some questionable offensive fouls and an uncommon amount of travel calls. Otherwise, manageable numbers. The low team free throw percentage hides an important point. The guy who attempts the most charity shots on the team by a wide margin, shot 70%. That matters. Rebounding can and will be a problem for this squad going forward, better defense and well contested shots can sometimes unfairly skew rebound statistics with the increase in opportunity. In the end I’m encouraged and agree with what Stuhoo said. Archie has a team that he can rip into at halftime and get a positive response. I’m less concerned with margin of victory in a rivalry game. 13-0 run for IU. I’d say that’s worthy of some praise. Clean, solid defense. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

Yeah, no doubt. There is also the fact that Joey had a few really nice games offensively last year. I guess I’m more worried about the injury he’s facing. The lost time. The lost early season competition. One thing I think Joey couldn’t afford to do was lose speed and mobility. So I’m worried if when back, he can’t be what he was. Just worried though. Not saying he will or won’t. Don’t know what he’s able to work on and what he’s not. He’s a leader. Undoubtedly one of the teams calming influences. Hoping he can get on the floor soon. I’ve been nervous about that actually. Nervous about what it does to the defense. I like him. I want him out there, but he’s slow, and this may be looking to much into things. Although he continued to get placed in the starting lineup, his minutes in conference play really dwindled as the season rolled on. He was exposed a few times in my opinion. We really need him though. We have a size problem. It’s bigger than the shooting problem. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Oh I’m not trying to argue, I’m just telling you what’s going to happen and why. And that nobody on this team today got scored on at will. Edit: 6 of 7 Jerome Hunter rebounds came in the first half, apparently redefining the meaning of “garbage time”. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

One of those two had seven rebounds today. I assure you, when conference play begins, this is where value will be assessed. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Encouraging no doubt. That said though, this isn’t a 40% three point shooting team. It’s sub 30. Now I love that the kids got this game to build confidence and have no problem with attempting 27 shots from distance. They used it to break the zone. However, from here forward, I would strongly suggest limiting attempts to under 18. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
What Can IUBB do to Revive Your Excitement/Confidence?

I truly feel like this is the best description of the Indiana basketball program. This didn’t start with Archie though, it’s been going on for decades. One highly ranked recruit on a team of average Joe’s. Just enough to get us firmly stuck in mediocrity. I completely agree 100% on this. Hell, give me even 2 studs on the same club. 2 killers, a Race Thompson/Freddie McSwain type, and a 3 & D guy. Man we haven’t had that but 1 season in the last 20. I had lobbied for Hunter to take some of Trey’s minutes tonight. I feel that will start to happen as the season rolls on. I’m not at all saying it’s why they lost. Hunter has better length. He’s older. Can hit from the perimeter. These were the shortcomings I felt IU faced tonight. Rebounding and Shooting. I love Trey, love his attack from the perimeter. I say he’s going to get smacked down with some offensive fouls with that flying pass in the lane once conference play starts, but overall I do like what he can give us.. But, we gave him 20 minutes tonight, and he gave us 0pts, 1reb, 1 turnover and 2 fouls. That said, those won’t be his stats every night. If Trey is in there hustling and making the smart plays, Im fine with him getting those minutes against some conference opponents. I’m fairly confident though that Jerome’s end of season numbers will surpass Trey’s in every meaningful statistical category. Hoping for Jerome sake it’s not on less minutes. I’m sort of baffled by it really. Jerome has the length, athleticism, and scoring talent to play with an FSU squad. If nothing else, I totally get that he is somewhat inconsistent with the 3, but MY GOD, if that be the case, don’t you have to ride the wave when the wind is blowing? Hunter should have eaten Trey’s minutes on the perimeter tonight. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
