What makes us IU fans so hard to please?
jdailey1981 replied to jdailey1981's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
IU can and will bounce back. It just has to find what once made it what was. Also, fans will have to understand that we can't expect results overnight. I understand that this is CTC's first team of his own, but he can't also expect fans to sit on their hands and wait 3 seasons each time either. He once said that he wants everyone to know that this will take some time, and there are no promises to make, no time tables to meet, just that he is here to rebuild and in it for the ling haul. This season isn't over yet, and I still think some surprises could be made -
What makes us IU fans so hard to please?

Look what happened last season....IU started the season #1 and stayed #1 for a while, than came the games we lost...I mean like Wisconsin for instance...they are IU's kryptonite if you will. They always have the # and know what to do to get the results. This team, along with new recruits next season, has strong potential to be a powerhouse, but remember what Norman Dale said in the movie Hoosiers "Sure, there is alot of talent there, but it is raw and undisciplined." That is this team. All I can say is that next season best be a good year, or that seat of CTC's will start feeling mighty warm. -
As long as there are those of us still living who remember the Knight coached teams, everything that Crean throws out on the floor will be measured against them; fair or not. IU fans are some of the best, if not THE best in the country. We know good, well coached basketball when we see it. Win or lose, the Knight coached teams always gave us a feeling that no matter the opponent, we had a fighting chance to win the game. That doesn't mean we would, or did, but we all felt that even on a down year, we could beat a DUKE or UK. It might be because everyone played out of their asses that day, or coach Knight came up with another brilliant game plan, or any number of other intangibles, but we'd go in to games knowing we could win it. Conversely, Crean's teams remind me of those put together by Lou Henson, Gene Keady, or Dr. Tom Davis at Iowa. Henson and his side kick, Jimmy Collins, could get some of the best talent out of Chicago; nationally recognized talent, and make them a fundamentally sound, competitive team. They'd be tough to beat, until they got in to the tournament. Same for Keady and Davis. Their teams just didn't seem to ever develop to a level that one might seriously expect them to compete for a title, despite all the talent that went through their programs. It's entirely possible that Crean may be in this mold. The team this year, young and inexperienced though they may be, is fundamentally flawed. They don't handle the ball well, they don't shoot the ball well, they don't play defense that scares anyone, and for some reason, they don't appear to go "all out". They don't have an identity that separates them from anyone else. They do have talent. Like Henson, Keady, and Davis, Crean has put together an amalgam of talented players, that aren't getting appreciably better as the season progresses. I like coach Crean, and I think, to a point, he's a good coach. But, as he said one time, "It's IU". As such, that puts us above 95% of the basketball programs in the Country, with or without him. In short, I don't think he should be fired yet, but neither do I think Glass should drag his feet if it appears things are not progressing long term.
You are right, but things have changed a lot since CBK. CBK did not settle for mediocrity, and was the type of coach to light someone up for doing something stupid. Kids today just want to go to college, play basketball for a year or 2 and bank on going to the NBA. CBK made it a point to his players that education came first, and that college was not a training field for the NBA. If you wanted to play for IU, you better keep your grades up. This is one reason why CBK hated uk, because of the "one and done" philosophy and the fact that they always got away w murder. Kids used to line up all over the country to play for CBK also because they knew what he could do, but they also lined up at purdont, Illinois and uk, which is why CBK pushed for the best. Kids don't want a coach like that today. They want a coach that can land them a championship and flee for the NBA. CTC is a good coach, but do I see him staying at IU for the long haul? No I really don't. My guess is if he doesn't produce results, people will want him gone, and he will go after his contract is up. I haven't fully given up on CTC, but I really don't know of we can put up banner 6 with him or not. My opinion, we need an Indiana man, preferably one who has playing time on Branch McCracken court, that has a passion for IUBB. One that will not tolerate mediocrity, and only want the best. Only than, can we hang banner 6.
-
Here is my take..people are so quick to fire him already....ok, we lost about all of our experienced players (minus Yogi and Will) but yet all of a sudden, he isn't the right man for the job, is what I keep hearing. My opinion is this, give the man 2 more seasons. These are young kids here, and we have more coming next year. He did a lot with our previous team, what makes one think he couldn't do the same, or better with others? If after next season, he can't get IUBB led to at least the Sweet 16 or elite 8, than I will start to question. Everyone just needs to remember, we have a very young team, and it shows, but who is to say that can't be better?
-
I haven't entirely given up on him. I am frustrated, yes, however, this is not the same team that went to 2 sweet 16s and won the B1G championship. Most of those guys went pro. My concern is now (A) will anyone else transfer out and as far as next season (B) will Noah go pro? I wish more than none that we would see CTC rip ass like CBK used to do. This team doesn't need belly rubbing. They need to be shown that if they want to play for Indiana, they better show it. IU fans are some of the toughest fans to please in the league, and that is because we have seen what IUBB used to be, and we refuse to accept our team to be less than what they could be. Plain and simple.

Prediction League Game 14 (Week 8) IU vs Illinois (12/31/13)

I guess after the departure of Fischer, we will really see what the team is made of now, and if others can step it up. -
Confirming Fischer is gone. I hate to hear it, but there is nothing we can do about it now. This is not the be all, end all of IU. It just means that others will have to step it up.
-
Just got an email confirming this. It sucks, but it is what it is. All we can do is go forward from here, but next season, IUBB will still be a force to be reckoned with. Sent from my ADR6425LVW using BtownBanners mobile app

Next season, IUBB will be a force to be reckoned with. A fully loaded bench, and one with a strong potential to hang banner 6. What do you think, and why?

Yep, it is that time of year again...people are already planning out Black Friday like it is some major strategic military plan, and it is all over facebook. Who is participating in it this year? I am doing my annual Black Friday tradition....NOT participating in Black Friday, saving myself bail money, and a huge headache, however, sitting back with a glass of wine and a cigar after thanksgiving leftovers, and watching the news, and seeing how many crazies got arrested for acting stupid. God bless tradition:)

I have to agree 100%

Did anyone else see this? :( -
What's next? College and pro flag football? Just saying...everything was fine for years before, but now they are turning all contact sports into p**** sports. It's ridiculous and going to ridiculous lengths. Just my 2 cents.

I ready alot of "Fire Wilson" talk on Twitter tonight, as though a bandwagon is being started for it. In case some haven't seen, it isn't so much the offense as the defense. Curious to see what will happen with Mallory after the season is over.

This is Christmas day in Hoosier Nation. It's the most wonderful time of the year

Zello is a free walkie talkie push to talk app, like the old Nextel phones, that works on android, iOS and windows phones, tablets, and computers. Anyhow, I have created channel on there called Indiana Hoosiers Chat, and all of Hoosier Nation is welcome to join! No password, just join in on the conversation. Just need some helping hands to help moderate to keep purdont and pUKe fans out of there. I am in no way, shape or form trying to break BTB rules, so if I am, please remove this, but as nothing is monetarily linked, I figured it wasn't violating.

I got a coworker that is a UK fan...one with a brain, and not cocky, and said even though they are ranked #1, he still has yet to see how they feel they are worthy of that spot.

Kinda looks fake. Lol

OT: Trey Lyles Family was "Attacked" by Hoosiers

Twitter is definitely not the place to be if you want to keep things secret, especially recruits. Hiding things, like TL did, only gets you haze. Dont you know he hates opening hos Twitter now? Could have all been avoided had he just done the right thing. -
Can't see what it says
