    IPFW Post Game Thread

Good gravy guys, some of you want to act like the world is ending. Should IU have won that game? Absolutely. Am I surprised that they lost on the road to a smaller in-state school? Not one bit. This game meant the world to Fort Wayne and it showed. For those of you acting like this is a devastating loss that will haunt the team on Selection Sunday, I just don't see it. IPFW is as good as a few of the teams at the lower-end of the conference. Statistically, the road loss last night was equivalent to losing to Texas at home. I hope Glass/Crean continue to schedule these sorts of games. It's great for the state and it's great for basketball. It is definitely better than playing another 300+ ranked team in Assembly Hall. For everyone wanting to throw players under the bus, claim they aren't ready for prime-time, etc, etc, just pump the brakes a little. It's not even Thanksgiving yet.

    Klinsmann Out As USMNT Coach/Director

This was definitely the right move. Kilnsmann has done nothing to progress the USMNT since Bradley was fired. Unfortunately, hiring Arena isn't exactly inspiring either. Hoping it's on an interim or short-term basis and there's another coach they're targeting.
  5. I wasn't raised on IU Football like I was IU Basketball. Sure, I caught a few games here or there, but it was never appointment viewing for my dad, so it wasn't for me. Then I went to IU and missed maybe one game in four years. IU was terrible for nearly every year I was there and students just didn't show up. Tailgate, nap, hit the bars or a house party. It's how the system is. Even now that we're getting better, kids still don't want to sit through 4-4.5 hour games. It's a sad reality. I just wish they'd give it a chance, because I enjoy IU Football just as much as I do IU Basketball now, just in different ways. I was at the Big House this weekend. When IU went up 7-3 and still held the lead in the 3rd quarter, I never expected a win, but I thought it spoke volumes about how much better this program has gotten. IU doesn't get embarrassed week-in and week-out anymore. It just doesn't happen. That's progress. Obviously, all fans want them to win one of these games. It would be great for the players psychologically and it would be great for recruiting. IU has a chance to make it to back-to-back bowl games for the first time in 25 years. Doesn't matter how they got there or who they played. IU had to increase the amount of conference games they played this season and they are standing one win away from bowl eligibility. The Bucket could be headed back to Bloomington for the 4th straight season. That's tangible progress. Eventually it might not be enough, but for now it is. There were certainly missed opportunities this season. Wake Forest, Nebraska, PSU all spring to mind. Maybe this team should have reached 7 wins instead of 6 (potentially), but it's hard to complain after losing one of the best QBs in IU history, a stud RB, and a first-round offensive linemen. Next season is the interesting season to me. Personally I'm confident that Allen will be back as DC. I'm hopeful that either Lagow will make some mechanical improvements or King/Ramsey will take over the starting job. Patrick will hopefully be healthy and a bigger part of the offense. Cobbs and Harris will be back. Maybe next season will be the jump everyone wants. 7 wins and a third straight bowl would be a huge step in the right direction. Before any of that can happen, beat Purdue and let's go bowling for a second time.

  8. I'm not too concerned about losing Allen. He's from Indiana and his kind is enrolled to play here next year. Think we've got him for a bit.
  9. This is a massive game. As ThompshonHoosier pointed out - it's a noon kickoff which is awful. Makes getting to Bloomington more difficult (especially with 37/65 both a mess) and the team always seems to struggle with noon kickoffs. The defense will need to be better early than in recent weeks. IU can't afford to be in a hole and trying to dig their way out. Lagow has to absolutely take care of the ball and that means the running game needs to produce. This is a big opportunity against a top-15 team. No turnovers, better kicking game, strong run defense. Make them air it out. I'm optimistic, but not confident.
  10. Legitimate question - have you watched much soccer at any level?
  11. Fair, but that was still 7-7 after one and like 19-7 at half right? Like you said though, game had some injury issues.
  12. Legitimate question - when was the last time this team was blown out form the start of the game and didn't contend in the game at all? I can't really think of one this year/last year. So that seem's to indicate that IU Football tends to play to the level of their competition. Either up or down. As we saw in the Nebraska/OSU games, this team absolutely can beat Penn State. As we saw against Wake, Rutgers, NW, this team can absolutely lay an egg. If I was a betting man, I would bet that the PSU game will be a close one. Win the takeaway battle and I like IU's chances. As frustrating as this season has been at times (see Saturday), the team is 5-4 and one win away from back-to-back bowls. A year removed from losing Sudfeld, Howard, etc. I think that says a lot about what Wilson has done with this program. He's raised the floor. He can do more. It may take a few more years, but I think he can get this program to 7-8 wins consistently. Side note: when was the last time the team as above .500 through 9 games?

Fired an excellent defensive coach (I know they retained Burke) and traded way a great defender in George Hill. Replaced him with a pathetic defender in Teague. Teague and Ellis can't play D and are a small back-court. Not sure what Larry expected.
  14. Probably going to miss the second-half to catch the Indy Eleven playoff game. This is an absolute must-win and there would be no excuse for failing to take down Rutgers. Interested to see how much of the Zander/Natee package we see this week and how the defense responds to it now that they've had a week to prepare. Really need Zander/Natee to throw the ball a few more times to keep the defense honest. Also Lagow will need to keep the ball every now and then for the same reason. Hopefully the good offensive line play continues.

  18. Oh, that's been 10ish years now I believe.
  19. The 7th grade basketball coach at our school made a kid hold a baby doll above his head for an entire practice. Said maybe he'd take better care of the doll than he did the ball. Coach was an absolute Purdue Person, but I thought it was pretty funny. Glad it wasn't me.

Feeney was back last week, but was limited on snaps. Hopefully he's closer to 85-90% this week. Need the running game to get going to take some pressure of Lagow. WOuld be nice for the defense to get a pick early or force a fumble. Fant dropped a huge one last weekend. Wonder if Wilson is giving a little lip service around Lagow, too. He may still be the starter, but perhaps he plans on playing Diamont and doesn't want Maryland prepping for it too much. By downplaying the QB situation to the media, he keeps Zander more of a surprise.
