Not sure how a thread about women's basketball ended up being about how the US "struggles" (not remotely true) in FIBA competitions. Going back to the women switching to 4 quarters - I'm not a fan. For some reason I've always really enjoyed the face that college basketball was two halves. I thought it was unique. Not sure what turning it into quarters accomplishes.

See, this is where I disagree. I love that there's no shot clock and teams can try to string the game out. Gives smaller and less athletic teams a different route to success. It makes each individual game a different match-up.

Anyone who claims there is no defense played in the NBA clearly does not watch the NBA. If you want to watch defense then you probably shouldn't tune into an IU game actually. The majority of NBA teams play an outstanding level of defense. The thing is, good offense will beat good defense 10/10 and NBA teams operate at an extremely high level offensively.

In recent history, I actually think I prefer the 2011-2012 team to the 2012-2013 team. With the 12-13 team I expected a win almost every time they took the court. The 11-12 team was a pleasant surprise and everything felt like it was icing on a cake.

Cody Zeller. He was awesome. Hornets have found great ways to use him.

So in short, Zeller has essentially the same proportionality to Plumlee, who you said has a small wingspan. Look, I like Cody. I think he has potential to have a long NBA career as a backup stretch 4. I'm just saying he has a short wingspan. -

Also, Plumlee's height without shoes - 6'11" his wingspan - 6'11" -

He has a small wingspan compared to other players his height and in the league. His poor wingspan returns to haunt here as it hurts his ability to defend entry passes, though his quickness and IQ can definitely help create turnovers in this regard. http://www.atthehive.com/2013/6/28/4474048/bobcats-2013-nba-draft-analysis-cody-zeller People looked at Zeller as an athletically challenged big with short arms. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1688525-cody-zeller-will-prove-fans-wrong-and-become-an-all-star-potential-player -

His arms are small for his size: Zeller possesses short arms and a very skinny frame at the moment, which could be the main thing holding him back long term, but he's an incredibly agile and fluid big man who runs the floor well and has the explosiveness to play above the rim on a regular basis. NBA finals Golden State vs. Cavs
KB0 replied to FortWayneHoosier's topic in National Basketball Association
Do you say the same thing about Tim Duncan? Chris Paul? Kobe? They all complain just as much if not more. Yes, LeBron complains to the refs, but nearly every player does now. It's just what happens. People single out LeBron for complaining, because they have nothing else to target. -
Fantastic opinion article on "The Carolina Way" http://m.journalnow.com/sports/columnists/scott_hamilton/hamilton-time-for-unc-to-put-up-or-shut-up/article_344ce8d8-f2d0-54f0-9130-c6ef47c8c2bf.html?mode=jqm

I'm still amazed at how short his arms are. -
UNC still has 90 days to respond to the NOA. After that (to my understanding) there's a hearing and then the NCAA takes time to decide a punishment. Syracuse had their hearing in October and didn't hear back until March. These things tend to go slow.

I don't expect it will be for this season unless UNC self-imposes. Likely 2016-2017 will be the first year.

I find it funny that people want to complain that there's "no defense" in the NBA or that they travel on every play. A lot like holding in football, you could likely call a travel on almost every possession of a basketball game at any level. It's called when it's blatantly obvious or disturbs the run of play. I will always prefer watching college basketball from an emotional standpoint, but watching an NBA game can be breathtaking. The level of play, especially in the playoffs, is amazing to see. Every single player can preform at a high level. It's a joy to watch. -
Facility Announcement Tomorrow...What Could It Be?
KB0 replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If I had to guess the announcement is about one of two things: 1. They are finally going to announce the plans for the South Endzone. From what I heard it will just be a bunch of offices similar to the north endzone. No more seating. 2. They are announcing that they are moving the volleyball/wrestling facility. They want to put all of the athletics facilities in the same vicinity. -
Looks like they'll likely receive a 2 year post season ban and lose some scholarships. If the NCAA can prove there were ineligible players on the 2005 and 2009 championship teams then the banners will come down.
-
18 years of academic fraud and it started under Dean Smith's watch. I would like to see those 2005 and 2009 banners come down, but I won't hold my breath.

Ohio State is going to struggle next year.

Think they can play in the post?

Tennis is not a contact sport. Baseball is not a contact sport. Swimming is not a contact sport. Basketball IS a contact sport. You block out with contact. You play offense with contact. You play defense with contact. There is supposed to be contact. Should there be as much as there is in the game today? No. But basketball is 100% a contact sport.
-
Basketball is a contact sport. Does it need to be cleaned up because it is overly physical? Absolutely. But it is still a contact sport.
-
Please stop repeating this line. The college game over the last 10-15 years has become overly physical and is hurting the game. Go back and watch old NCAA tournament games on YouTube and watch how the game flows. It was a much better game. You can play defense, still be physical, and not foul the way players do today. Claiming they will be calling "ticky-tack" fouls is simply incorrect. The refs will be enforcing rules as they are written. Yes, it will likely take time for coaches/players to adjust, because they've gotten away with manhandling the offensive player for so long now, but as long as the refs stick to their guns it will be much better in the long run.

Pretty positive he is playing overseas right now.

Honestly not sure it makes much of a difference. 1. Yogi (33 mpg) 2. JBJ (30 mpg) 3. Rojo (28 mpg) 4. Troy (30 mpg) 5. TB (25 mpg) 6. Hartman (20 mpg) 7. Holt (18 mpg) 8. Zeisloft (16 mpg)
