Indiana @ Purdue Post Game Thread

I came into this season really excited about our incoming class of freshmen. I feel like we've got people who have the instinct to drive, but aside from Vonleh, we have no new people who can shoot. Ferrell is shooting well, but I am always pleasantly surprised when he hits. We lost all of our shooters from last year and picked up none. I'm not sure what we were expecting. No amount of gelling can make shooters out of people who just can't. Without shooting we can't open up the lane and enable our drivers to do what they do best. I realize we're in a funk now, but I think there are a few basic elements missing from our mix. -

Have we ever seen a zone defense before? It's like they just invented it this morning. -

Vonleh gets stronger and more confident with each play. Each dunk. He is so capable. It's as if he is a huge spring that keeps winding up and releasing, but each time the spring winds faster. It releases stronger. I'm glad we have these preseason games to get him some experience in red/white. It will be amazing to see what he achieves this year. Also, Yogi made some very tall plays for his height today. One particular drive in the lane got him way up above the rim. His off season work has really paid off.

Coach Crean seems to be exactly what IU needed to revive itself. He is a healer. He is a diplomat. He is a good leader. He has rebuilt, improved and created an incredible system. He is getting us the kind of recruits we haven't been able to get in a long time--perhaps ever. But to wonder if this is the guy who is going to take us all the way and can he coach, etc., is like wondering if the person who just solved global warming is going to be a good father. Give him a minute.
