High School basketball.......This is Indiana
Uwe Robb replied to Uwe Robb's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Haha, hope there isn't anyone on here from Hammond. That post in the comments section of this article saying "Think of Hammond as the booger hanging out of Chicago's nose" I don't know anything about Hammond, but that is funny. -

it could be very complicated, it could also be very simple and you could be wrong. Has that crossed your mind? Why do you have to be right? -
Interesting read about Coach Knight, Thoughts?

Reading back thru this just makes me feel for Ron Felling. Talk about a great coach. I cannot believe he didn't go on to be a Head Coach at a major college program. Sad. -

I do not think we are in position to compete for a NC in the next 2-3 years. I am obviously in the camp that would like to see TC gone. I hear you when you say we should be talking about this when the season is over. Even though I want Crean gone I do not believe it should be done mid-season. You mentioned Dakich, that is a good example of when coaches leave mid-season. Realistically, I do not know exact details of Crean's contract but I believe his buyout drops around July? I do not see administration firing him after this year much less that late into the off-season. So as much as myself and the other Crean naysayers dislike. He probably will be our coach again next year. So the good thing for everyone saying he deserves a chance to prove what he can do, he will get that chance. The bad part is you have to hear people like myself complain for another year and half (at least) because 1. that is what message boards and fan sites like this are for 2. If nobody expresses their displeasure with TC's coaching then administration will assume we are satisfied, which I am not. -

Coach K made the NIT his 1st year. He made the tournament by his 4th year and was in the National Championship game by his 6th year. While in the next 8 years making 2 - Finals Fours Winning 2 National Championships and making 2 more NC games. This is TC's 8th year and I don't see him making that kind of run in the next 4 years so I am not sure I would be comparing the two. -

I remember Harrison and Bosse being the best two teams in town when Harrison had Ernie Duncan and Bosse had Jaquan Lyle. I think this Reitz team is a product of all 7 kids that play having played together in the same system since 6th grade. None of them have transferred and they all play on the same AAU team so they have spent a lot of time together. I have heard mixed reviews on Adams. Heard he was a good coach, but also heard if you take this teams 4 years away he has a record right around .500. Harrison is good this year, but young. I believe Central is the 2nd best team in the city this year and Reitz has beat them by 14 and 34 already. I think 14 is the closest game they have had this year. That is why the Southport game interests me so much. A Top 5 ranked team on the road. Can't wait to see how they matchup. Also super excited to see Scruggs play. -

Barnes and Ruckman see quite a few min off bench. Stein and Norman are both signed to play for USI (University of Southern Indiana) and I personally believe they will both be very good at this level. They would both have made good D-1 players but they are just a bit undersized. Stein is a 2 or 3 that drives the ball alot. Norman is only 6'5" but jumps out of the gym (think Luke Recker). Sanford is signed to play for Toledo. He has a great all around game. Probably would be their go to guy on this team if they were ever down 1 pt and needed a bucket. Hansen could be the best player on the team, but he has yet to qualify academically so the only offer he has is Olney Central in IL. Mario is a defensive specialist he plays the top of the 1-3-1 press and half court zone when he is in. He has to be in top 10 in state in steals and he is not even a starter. Dru Smith is a great athlete, not a great shooter, but Toledo has already offered I believe when they came to watch Sanford fell in love with Smith as well. If he improves his shot in off season he will get some more mid-major offers. Great team to get out and watch if anyone is anywhere close to where they play. -

That is a joke. I am hoping the NCAA still comes down a little harder on them. -

Yes that is correct. They also beat OK which was a #2 seed. So they beat a #1 and #2 seed in the same tournament. Has anybody done that in the last 7 or 8 years at IU? I am just trying not to diminish what Mike Davis did with that team like others choose to do. Everyone says it wasn't his team and it was a fluke run. Anytime you beat a #1 and #2 seed in the tournament I would say your run was not a fluke. I try to give credit where credit is due. Tom Crean had an outstanding Reg Season in 12' that is why we had the #1 overall seed. If we had a #1 seed every year and lost in the Sweet 16 you still may have some people calling for Creans job, but not near as many. The sum of everything is why the majority of people myself included are starting speak up. The inconsistency along with the constant roster turnover are two main reasons I voice my opinion. I cannot speak for others. I will not wish negative upon this current team or coach. I wish them the best, I know these are great players and TC is a good (not great) coach. He was almost undoubtedly the perfect coach for the job when he accepted it. IMO he is not the one to take us to the next level. He has got us out of the abyss and now I believe we will have no trouble getting a coach that can take us to that next level. For that I will be forever grateful to TC. -

You sound like a very smart guy that knows numbers. I would agree with everything you said in this post. The only thing I would say is a lot of numbers can be skewed to appear bad if you are losing. Win and there are no issues. Nobody looking for reasons we are losing. Just win baby. -

Everytime someone has an opinion on here you say nothing is "Absolute" or "relevant" But if someone doesn't agree with one of your opinions then it is "embarrassing" or "you can't take this seriously" Can't figure out if you're Tom Crean, Fred Glass or a Middle school student? -

Aparently not in your world. To some it could possibly show how good/bad a coach is with in-game adjustments and strategy. To others it is just a number because our Coach will always be the best!!! -

1 point loss is definitely better than a 30 point loss but it is still a loss. I posted earlier that if you take away all of our cupcake games (so only using our conference games, +EW, Pitt, UofL, SMU, Butler & Gtown) we have been outscored in 2nd half of 12 of 15 of those games. That is pretty alarming if you ask me. -

Tournament shouldn't be the only thing that matters. I give TC all the credit in the world for taking care of business during reg season to get that #1 seed. In turn that makes your path thru tourney easier. So a SW16 run as a #1 seed is not near as impressive or thrilling for the fan base as a SW16 run for a #4,#5 or #6 seed. This could be an arguement for Mike Davis being a better coach as well (if somebody wanted to do that). He made his run with a #5 seed all the way to the tournament. Beating teams like Utah, Oklahoma and Duke along the way. -

Read my previous post. We were down by 8 at half and lost by 12 so we still lost the 2nd half. I think everyone will agree it could have been alot worse than 4 points if Bo would have wanted it to be. -

Throw out the cupcakes and I'm pretty sure we have been outscored 12/15 games this year in 2nd half. -

Last I checked Mike Davis was a Bobby Knight assistant. So unless things were different back then. Mike Davis recruited the 01'-02' to come to IU and played a huge part in developing them everyday at pratice. If you know something I don't about Asst Coach's responsibilites and job activities please enlighten me. You seem to know more than everyone else on here anyways. It was also his 2nd year as Head Coach not like he took over mid-season. Also Tom was 5 years removed from his FF at Marq. It's not like he packed his bags and went to DWade's dorm and told him the gig was up. But whatever gets your story across better to us idiots that don't know anything about basketball. -

Only one he has achieved more than is Kelvin who was only here for 1 full year. Last I checked Davis went to a National Championship game and Crean has only been to a Sweet 16. -
Who this team is and where they're going
Uwe Robb replied to Magnanimous's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Speaking of money talking....Anybody got the Skodjt's(Sp?) take on Crean? That would be enough money and or influence to get both Glass and Crean gone. -
Oregon dismissal was due to academic ineligility correct? Also I am from Evansville and his parents are pretty well off. I am pretty sure he drove a newer SUV before the Mustang. Not sure that story has any legs unless somebody wants to throw it in a paragraph to try to improve their arguement. You can read my old posts on the kids attitude. It is what it is. He was the #4 ranked player in his class at one point. He hasn't been in Evansville area for 2 going on 3 years so anybody that tells you about his attitude or voatile personality are talking about a High School junior that has since been to two Prep schools that usually help out with any of those issues.

Uwe Robb replied to Magnanimous's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Depends on what you define lifting the program as? He has taken us to our first Sweet 16 in that period that you mention, but he also did this with 2 of the top 4 picks in the NBA draft. I believe the expectations for this team were much higher. Also in said time period Coach Knight, Coach Davis, Coach What's his name & Coach Dakich only missed the tournament 1/13 years. Crean has missed the tournament 3/6 years he has coached. Lots of people will try to give Crean a pass for his first 2 or 3 years he coached, but the numbers are what they are. Fan base has only been in the tournament 50% of the man's tenure. He will undoubtedly catch some criticism. Another thing to point out is that Crean led his Marquette team to a Final Four with D Wade. After this he missed tournament 2/5 years and his best showing was a 2nd round exit. Just something to think about when considering his history.
