Potential coaching change suggestions
Uwe Robb replied to Bryan Medema's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Was just reading thru some old articles and it was talking about how Brad Stevens told UCLA he would never sign a contract without and "out" in it. It also mentions he had just signed a 12 year extension with Butler when he left for the Celtics. His wife a life long Hoosier is the one who apparently negotiates his contracts since she is a Employee relations lawyer and is basically her job anyways. Maybe I am a sunshine pumper but all of these signs are positives for us Brad Stevens advocates. -

So Glass gave Crean the vote of confidence earlier on Peegs article, but the more interesting part of that interview to me was the details on the buyout. He said it would be paid in payments 4-5 mil per year and could be drastically decreased depending on Crean's future employment. So best case scenario we fire Crean he gets picked up by another school and we only pay him 2-3 mil per year for 3 years. That would leave plenty of money to throw at Brad Stevens and the Celtics!!! -

Agree with you on Shaka, Miller is questionable. He looks like a good hire, but so did Crean at the time. He really only has one run in the tournament to look at. His brother is a good coach so I would lean towards him being a good coach, but I am not sure I am ready to give it to him following TC. I think you are right Brad Stevens needs to be everyone's focus!!! -

I still really like Ray Harper from WKU. I seriously doubt he will ever even get a look from IU, but the guy already has 4 National Championships and 5 more Runner-ups. For those of you counting that is 9 appearances in a title game. Plus Coach Cal and Pitino already hate him, so he should fit right in. -

I think they are fairly far down on my list, but I would not be super upset if we got a Crews/Cheaney combo with Crews mentoring Calbert to take over in 5-10 years. I have no doubt in my mind they have the X & O's knowledge, my only question would be the recruiting aspect. Like everyone says most of these kids (out of state kids) have never seen or heard of Calbert Cheaney. -

Agreed, I am one of the ones who wants TC gone yesterday, but if we put some feelers out to BS and his camp says give it one more year then by all means keep Crean another year and wait for BS. If BS says no way I am an NBA lifer then I still like your list. Let me throw a name out there. Thad Matta. Please don't think in anyway I want this to happen, but let me play devil's advocate. He coaches at a football school just like Billy D, he is a very good recruiter, if coaches like Coach Cal & Pitino were thinking about taking over IU when it was in as bad a shape as it was in 2007 then I would think pretty much any coach who sees how much potential to be the HC at the dominant school in one of the most if not the most dominant basketball states in the country could pursuade a guy. I guess by making that arguement I am pretty much saying I think anybody is in play here. Short of Coach K, Coach Cal, Self and Roy, Izzo. You guys may come up with 1 or 2 more, but I still think a fat check and god like throne to sit on can change a lot of peoples minds. -

I graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan. I love him as a coach. I would take him in a heartbeat at IU, but I know that would never happen. I root for WKU just because of him. I guarantee you that will not be his last stop. He will be at a major University before it is all said and done. -

He is their main ball handler. He shot lots of FT's in this game. He also got free for several layups once he broke the intial half court trap Reitz was setting. I was pretty impressed with him. I thought once Reitz had Scruggs in fould trouble they would pull away, but this kid handled the ball well. He looked out of control, but rarely turned the ball over. Does anyone know if he has any offers or has signed anywhere? If I am correct he is a Senior. -
Hey everyone, I will be attending the Evansville Reitz @ Southport game on Feb 21st. Pretty fired up, being a local Evansville resident. I have seen Reitz play 3 times this year and they are a great team. 19-0 #1 overall ranking and I believe they are ranked top #25 nationally. Not a lot of size. Starting big man is 6'5", but they have 4 guys that take the ball up the court and they press the entire 32 min. This will also be my first look at Paul Scruggs. Should be a great matchup and could even be a Semi-state or State championship preview. Anyone else know of any must see matchups coming up soon before the IHSAA tournament starts? Stream

I am a Reitz homer, but after watching that game Saturday Southport deserves it. I just hope we get a rematch in Semi-State. Hope both teams stay modest and don't try to look past any teams. -

What a great game!! I truly hope both of these teams meet again in Semi-State. I think this game was good for both teams. It is the day after and I still can't believe how great this game was. Had to be the best I've seen since the early 90's. -

Yeah Reitz has Senior night tonight then they play Southport at 1:30 local time tomorrow then Sectionals start for both teams Tuesday. With Reitz's pressing style that could be a tiresome 5 days. -

Depends on Harrison's game plan. I think they had the right idea the last time they played at Harrison. But they abandoned it after 2 possessions. Seems like Reitz does that to teams though. Other teams get caught up in that press and rush and the tempo gets out of control very fast. -
Bring back the Converse!!! That will put us back on top. :D :D

The Perry Meridian Sectional will be crazy too. Ben Davis, Pike and Southport all in the same Sectional. Wow, I feel like those 3 teams could make it to Regional or Semi if they had a different route. -

94 pts a game in a 32 min H.S. game is impressive no matter how much you press or play your starters though. -

Yes, they play some JV players in blowouts, but they have 6 scholarship players on the team. So they have 2 Seniors on the bench that come in during blowouts that don't normally see much time but when they come in they are still solid players. They do press the entire game though, at least at the 6 games I have been to. This is what some locals are questioning. Wondering if the coach cares more about the records than he does conserving some legs for a State Champ run.
