General Coach Candidate News
chicagoHOOSIER replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Have we not already known who it is since Dolson was named? I have been out of the loop for some time, so forgive me if what I just said sounds stupid. Sad shame, I like many of you had high hopes and expectations for the teams assembled by Coach Miller, and sorry to see it end without any glory. Oh well. It was an extremely disappointing year in so many ways, basketball and otherwise. This program needs a good shot in the arm! (sorry people!) I'll be back later for the punishment I deserve for saying it like that. -
wow. how terrible. so sad to hear. it's like losing any other IU legend. it's a big loss. thanks for the many great memories, mile, and thanks for the several board legacies you helped to create. hard to imagine an IU sports message board experience without you. peace and love.

Indiana MBB 20-21 Rotation Discussion
chicagoHOOSIER replied to Brass Cannon's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Durham Lander Phinisee or Hunter Smith Jackson-Davis I think those are the guys who are going to start and get the most minutes, then Franklin Brunk Thompson in no particular order rotate in/out and then let's see if one of the other freshmen is able to crash the party. I think the most likely candidates to do so are in this order Geronimo because of the defense, motor, mindset and overall measurables and athletic ability Leal if he can shoot from jump and if we still need shooting because nobody else on the team got better at shooting over the offseason. Galloway if most of our guys are lost and don't know what they are doing and Galloway has the bb iq he is supposed to be coming in with. Is the staff still looking to add a shooter to the mix, a one year grad transfer? Might as well pickup that insurance policy imo. It does not cost much if the guy is a one year player and we still have the scholly for 2021. I like this team a lot, and think we should be able to compete. I like that the end of our bench looks like someone in that bunch could possibly be a band-aid w/o getting completely slaughtered if/when we need a band-aid for a short time. I also like that we are not counting on the freshmen not named Lander to be ready to fill a lot of important minutes. If one or two of those guys breakout and show they belong, then that is gravy this year, not the meat and potatoes. -

Without delving into it yet to back my following statement up with facts, on first glance it appears to this IU fan that Illinois has made it back into the pros after a significant absence. -

OK so Hoiberg has the coronavirus. Did he give it to Katz then in the pre-game interview? That was Katz, right? I am so confused. -

I don't see the NCAA cancelling/suspending the tournament. But of course I never thought I would see Chicago cancel the dyeing of the river and all 3 St Patrick's Day parades. (Side note: the awesome priest at Old St Pat's here was so proud of being named the Grand Marshall of the downtown parade, he mentioned it in his homily last Sunday, probably at every service because he got stuck doing all the masses last week lol. They have like 10ish services on Sundays.) -

When was the last time we were ahead of a team by 20 points? Remember when we always went ahead of every team by 20 points? It was just a matter of time? -

I think Landers is an intelligent student. I have never met him personally, but I am fairly certain I have read from reputable sources on this board who are closer to the situation that Landers is intelligent. I don't think he fails classes. -

I think we are not hearing each other very well because some of the quotes quoted say very different things from what is being , for lack of a better word, now seemingly argued against. I don't intend to get into an argument over a topic that honestly means almost nothing to me. I suppose I could research statistics and patch together some game film that backs up my points, but nah. Who cares if I think some of our guys might be tougher or stronger than you give them credit for? -

I am going strictly off of memory without going back to substantiate my remark, but off the top of my head I only remember our bigs getting dominated mostly across the board by one team, and I don't remember off the top of my head which team that was. IU seemed to hang with most teams up front by my memory, even if some of those games up front were mud fights, and maybe we are talking about two different topics here. You are not the only person to remark about our front court's lack of toughness. -

Thank you. I agree. Verdell was a combo guard I believe thrust into the starting point guard role who may or may not have had a really nice road map at his disposal for success in becoming a true point guard. He came to play for IU when the program was operating under unusual circumstances, and contributed to building the program into a contender. I liked his demeanor as well. -

I think some people cannot even visualize rules of social engagement that do not include a hero and a scapegoat. Without those two characters created, they are lost, and they will try to create them for the rest of us often employing the underlying fundamental principal that if you say something enough times, then it becomes true. Look around you. Even though it is a dying social model, many, many, many people know no other rules of social engagement, and could never conceive living in a world where a hero and a scapegoat do not exist. The possibility that other, more successful social models even exist has never entered their imagination. Many people live according to social rules of engagement that do not use the hero/scapegoat model, but I am nearly certain you have noticed that lots and lots of people need the comfort a hero and a scapegoat provide in order to navigate their journeys through their respective worlds, primarily consisting of groups filled with like-minded people. It's easier in the short term that way. -

I would really like to see a tough Justin Smith. A guy who can finish. That Justin Smith does not exist. Now he is going into his senior season. Maybe we can get one tough year out of him next year. I am not counting on it. He just does not seem all the way invested. He is not a guy who is going to will this team to a championship doing everything he needs to do to be the best he can be. And Jackson-Davis most likely can be expected to toughen up between freshman and sophomore seasons. Brunk plays tough, and De'ron, despite his overwhelming injuries can out-tough anybody in the league it seems, but yeah, he can only do that for so long in a game before he is required to sit before his body falls apart into puzzle pieces on the floor. Race plays with toughness, but he is such a newbie to planned minutes on the floor, he is just beginning to learn the league. -

Who do you call the flagrant on, Durham? It looked to me on the reply I only saw once, so take it for what it's worth, like Durham poked Race in the eye. Wisconsin is famous for poking opponents in the eye, so I thought it was deliberate at first. Idk, look at it if you can and come back here and tell us what you saw. I can't do that with the laptop I am using right now.
