      He may have seen the possibility of winning a national championship in basketball at IU as more attainable than winning a national championship in football at IU, even though it had not been long since IU had been to a Rose Bowl when Buckner played.  But I believe he was recruited to IU for basketball.

        He was actually projected to the NFL as a DB.  Coach Knight I believe told him he needed to give up football.   He was an All Time great college general on the offensive end of the floor, and his defense was lockdown.
