The "issue" for lack of a better word of Mike Davis' race was discussed to such an extent at that time that the Board of Trustees chose Davis' successor based largely on his minority status. I just don't see how race could not have occurred to anybody in the black-out decision making department at that time. One person did not make that decision. That was a group decision.

What happened to Cody? -
Did nobody really ask if anybody else thought that might be construed as a racist statement? The answer to that question is not yes.
-
Extremely poor judgement guided the decision to give a blackout the green light that day. Just curious, not that this would make the Mike Davis blackout OK, but can you tell me about any Crean and/or Sampson and/or Dakich and/or Knight blackouts that ever took place in Assembly Hall?
-
Yes. It is everybody's job to judge such things. I am certain I am not the only person in Assembly Hall that day who questioned the double entendre. IU is a university.

ok that's the only explanation I had for the Sound of Music morning glow -
It is not my job to organize fan statements at basketball games or spread the word about such things that are nonsensical to me at best, and hate filled at worst. A color statement if necessary (sarcasm) needed a lot more thought by whoever is in charge of making color statements before giving the green light. That was a nationally televised game.
-
I am of the opinion that there can be no good excuse for choosing that color in this circumstance. Did nobody have second thoughts about that? Amazing. Because he did not win enough basketball games for a bunch of entitled fans. Sickening.
-
A bunch of old women in the university club led that charge too. Word of mouth. And it spread. And caught on. It was a big hit. Looked like at least half of the crowd in Assembly Hall was wearing black that day. No shame. It was the day Mike Davis called in sick for the Iowa game. He must have heard about it. Imagine him explaining that to his wife and children.

Fun fact: One of Rick Greenspan's assistants at IU hired Porter Moser when she took the Loyola AD gig a few years ago. Grace Calhoun. She also moved Loyola from the Horizon League to the MVC. Good move. She's at Penn now. -

I really cannot wait until we can begin to celebrate our own victories rather than our rivals' failures. But man, epic celebrating our rivals' failures sure feels good right now! I guess it will just have to do hardy har! Savor it. Hopefully this time next year we can remember this week fondly. Speaking of fond memories, Sunday is Archie's IU anniversary. -
wow. I did not hear that one. professors so way up there, and the rest of us so way down here I guess is the logic.

Haarms < Haas Congratulations on your Sweet 16 run Purdue. Thanks for playing. Buh-bye now. -
I don't know how much more hateful a fanbase can be than to organize a "black-out" to show the black coach how bad you want him to leave. I was at that game. I could not be any more ashamed of our fans than I was that day.

Did BAM get tha blow by again? LOL! How come no one ever wants to shake Screech's hand after the game? Haha still the whining squawking basturd he always was. Oh Bruce, don't change! Hahaha. Betcha tomorrow he tries to tell the Kansas State fanbase they have a rivalry with Kentucky lol and betcha they buy it too coz he prolly already created the Wikipedia page to prove it! -
He got a 7 year contract. That is about as honest a chance as one gets in life, no?
-
That's an awfully harsh assessment. The program has not been as good as it should be, but it has still been relevant more than 3 seasons.
-
I am curious to know how much Crean made at ESPN. I hope he got paid there too lol.

Agree with most of that except the part where it would have gotten uglier if IU hadn't blown itself up the way it did. We won 6 games Crean's first year. We went 3 years losing a ton of games. I do agree Sampson was probably eventually going to have to go, but I like the possibility that things could have played out a little more smoothly in transition if the university had more control over the timing of his mostly inevitable departure. And who is to say that the university could not have put pressure on Sampson to clean the program up. I'm putting a period at the end of that because that is more rhetorical than an actual question. -

The possibility exists that Sean may have listened to the Adidas guy, and upon learning of the money involved wanted to be the guy receiving info from Adidas rather than an assistant so he could control the direction of the conversation from the Arizona side, all the while intending to kill the potential deal because it is dirty without allowing the Adidas relationship to sour. This investigation, and all the others since Cellphone Sampson, just bring back bad memories about how poorly Indiana University handled that whole investigation into excessive phone calls and texts. Indiana just rolled over. That still chafes my @$$ bad to this day. -
