Seriously. Ask an in state recruit RIGHT NOW if they can name anyone from the 87 championship team. I would bet 9/10 wouldn't even be able to name Alford. They. Don't. Care
Recruits probably also have no idea that the guys next to coach K all played at Duke for him until they are told that. But it works for Duke every year. They always have a bench full of former players. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

USC G Byron Wesley off the board

I don't like the fact he would take minutes away from Stan. Never seen him play but I have a hard time believing he would just come in and start over Stan anyways. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  3.
Swanigan is definitely a "spaceeater". He really, and I mean really, needs to lose that extra weight. He plays right now like that kid in your 5th grade class who was 100 pounds heavier and 6 inches taller than you were, just overpowers opponents. Regardless, he can put up numbers and showed as much in state tournament play. Getting his weight issue corrected will be a good indication of how focused he is. Another player from this area who shows promise is 6'6'' junior to be Kyle Mallers from Fort Wayne Carroll. I saw him twice in sectional play at East Noble HS. He moves well with and without the ball, quick, not afraid to play D, and has a nice stroke. Saw him handling the point a number of times. He scored well, showing confidence of his ability, all the while playing on a team that showcased Chandler White. I was hoping he and Caleb would be playing on the same AAU team. The Spiece Fieldhouse, Fort Wayne, tournament is an early venue in the AAU season; I should have the opportunity to see both there. I might have to blow off the dust on the vid maker, read the instructions again, and show up.
From what I've read he's already lost a ton and added quite a bit of muscle. Said he was wanting to lose more still. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  4.
Was just wondering if you were more familiar with Gant and left him off for a specific reason. Him and Eron would be a great finish. I don't remember where I read it, but I read Eron's recruitment won't have much movement til the end of the semester at WVU. If we can finish with these two, I'd be ecstatic.
Ik I've seen on twitter that WVU won't release him until after the semester. Sounds like he may have a good reason to be waived for next season, so not piling a decision like that onto school and whatever he is going through seems smart. If Gant ends up coming here, I would be satisfied with our roster given the circumstances. I think between HMP, DD, Jeremiah, and Gant, at least 2 of them can give us good minutes every game. 5.
Would you not like Gant if he were an option? Hes like a ~50 recruit and a big. I wish the roster were more balanced so we weren't in a position to worry about having any scholarships for 2015
Oh I would love it. I'm just saying my picks would be out of those 3 for reasons with recruiting space in the future. Gant would be nice due to him being a 4 year guy that seems like he would fit the system. A guy like him may be really important in a couple years bc to me it looks like there may be some big roster turnover going into the 2016-2017 season. You've now convinced me to shift my lost to 4 by adding Gant. Eron Harris is still the one I like the most bc of his last year and I just think he's got a tough attitude on the court. 7.
Good reply, but I am not convinced he is that good of a shooter. He regressed or at least didnt advance in his senior high school season. Saw minimal court time this past year and was underwhelming. Then comes injury. Not on a good track record. Like u say, it's a gamble on if he becomes a prolific shooter but I wouldn't count on it. Good scout team player for mid major opponents. Too harsh?
I don't think it was too harsh. I'm also with you that he hasn't convinced that he can be a good shooter. His shot really doesn't look that good (pulls it behind his head and shoots on the way down) and he didn't just miss when he had open looks, he missed bad. Small sample size to completely write him off and you can't take away the fact he plays with a ton of heart. Only time will tell. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

I'd take either but if it came down to choosing I think I would take Harris. He would bring some much needed experience. I also feel like he's got a toughness and plays with an attitude that would be contagious, especially with younger guys. Seems like more of an immediate fix bc he is already used to college basketball. It also takes care of adding Indiana guys to the roster. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

    What's a college athlete worth?

What if they pay them their scholarships with everything that is included now, and then pay them minimum wage as freshman and have a 25 to 50 cent raise each season. They can log their hours (need a way to monitor) and are paid hourly with no maximum hours other than whatever rules NCAA already has on practicing. This would give them some spending money and the feeling of being paid for their hard work. This would make them employees of the university. This would also (hopefully) get them to realize what it is like to make minimum wage and why it is important to get your degree and work hard. Obviously they won't be able to receive a percentage of the money made off their jerseys and the tickets sold to see them play, but that's where they will have to understand they are collegiate athletes and it's just something that comes along with the deal. Now I don't think they should be paid at all but I wouldn't mind that idea. One thing that irritates me is that they can't sign autographs and receive money because if someone is willing to pay them money for dumb reasons like that, so be it, it's not hurting any of us if they accept that money. Let me see how close I can get to knocking this one out of the park. We can all agree HMP was highly overrated coming out of HS. With that being said I still think he can make a big impact over the next 2 years bc he has shown flashes. But while in HS he benefited from being super athletic and playing along side the guy I believe will take over the role as the best PG in the country these next couple of years in Yogi. He was able to get HMP the ball in spots he was comfortable with and they looked pretty darn good doing it and it led to HMP looking better than he actually was at the time. So now look at Jakeem and compare him to HMP, bc I mean sheesh, that's what we're best at is making comparisons. It's too fun not too. Jak is a similar size as he's listed at 6'10 but looks pretty similar to a 6'9 HMP. Now he looks a little lest cut up, judging off 2 videos, and he's not the athlete HMP was. However, when you look at him sealing in the post, although it is HS, he seals his man, meets the ball, and then the footwork looks plenty good enough for a guy that will be rightfully considered raw. Seems like he tracks the ball well off the rim and has potential to be a solid rebounder. The expectations are going to be low for him and he will likely only be expected to defend, rebound, and set solid screens which are all effort based. Let's say in 2 years he has done about as much as HMP, but has shown flashes of capability. Would we really be that mad of he gave us that much and still had 2 years to get a lot better and make an impact? I can't speak for everyone but I'd love to have him and the possibility of him being good. With very few players left and even fewer with his size, I think it's probably one of our best choices. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
He wasn't being a smart ash about it. I am with him in the fact that I am young enough to not remember when the state was locked down. Earliest memories are Guyton but I didn't comprehend much more than him being the man. What he was asking was roughly the year that it quit happening where we landed top 2-3 players in Indiana/surrounding states? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
It's so fun to project line ups. It really is. With 3 open spots I am excited to see how the staff handles it. The last projected lineup sounds good but we will want to get Rojo, Stan, DD minutes. We are one solid contributor away from being competive. If we get one grade transfer/juco type that helps right away and the other two spots can be used in a variety of ways.
Most fun I've had since trying to decide if Yogi and Hulls would start together or one be the 6th man. At Xavier they used him in the post quite a bit. Watched quite a few games that he would isolate on the wing with a big guarding him or post up when he had a smaller guy. Also he guarded Dougie "mcbuckets" when they played Creighton, so that tells you he was their best defender on the wing. If by chance he chooses IU and Hanner would develop enough to start, then we would probably be looking at a lineup of Yogi (6'), JB (6'3), Troy (6'7), J-Mart (6'6), and hanner (6'9?). Wouldn't mind that at all! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Or is that only based off "the movement" and Etherington? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  19. I understand what you're saying with the whole athlete/basketball player thing but I really do think he's a basketball player and not just an athlete, and he's definitely more of a basketball player than Vic was at this point. Look at his jump shot, good mechanics (a lot better than Vic had), he just needs more repetitions and actually shoot in games. He took bad shots early on in the year that were out of rhythm and out of the flow of the offense, if you can call it that, but later on at the end of the season he started making them bc it was in rhythm and under control. I don't even think he has that bad of handles he just tries to force the issue and squeeze by on the baseline or split two guys when it's just not there. He grew up in a family that lives basketball and has been taught fundamentals and the game well. His biggest problem was forcing the issue. Charles Barkley was talking about Blake Griffin his rookie year when he was playing good but was extremely inconsistent. Charles pretty much said he was playing too hard, he needed to learn how to play at 60% for most of the game, and then pick his spots where he really attacks. Seems like this advice would benefit Troy as well. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

    Yogi Ferrel's future.

Think his best bet to stay in the league if/when he gets there is trying to me as much like Derek fischer as possible. Similar size and fischer was able to play his role perfect. Just needs to knock down shots and get the ball where it needs to go (easier said than done). Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

    Hollowell & Etherington transferring..

This all sucks bc when these guys were coming in we were all wanting the best for them and wanting the program to be successful with both of these two. But to be extremely worried about the leadership is something I would stay away from. Last time I checked we have one of the best pg's in the country, and there's no doubt in my mind that dude is one hell of a leader. Not saying they'll be awesome and a national title contender, just saying yogi will do what needs to be done as far as leading and taking these incoming players under his wing. Thank you lord for Kevin "Yogi" Ferrell!

Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Who would you hire to replace CTC?

That's not learning the game that's working on their own game. There's a difference. Listen to any former nba great and they always mention they learned the game in college, not the nba. I'm not saying you are wrong bc yes they do work with coaches but it's on their individual game not learning how it should be played as a team. Not trying to argue about it and I don't completely disagree with your point. This is just how I feel about it.

Also I was saying that they can go pro at any time, they just have to go overseas. I'm not just looking at it to make college better, it would make the nba better if players stayed 3 years in college also, but that's just my opinion. I really don't think there's a good answer to the problem bc just as we disagree on it, there's probably hundreds of other ideas that disagree with both of us.
