This was the first time I have got to see Devin Davis play and I was impressed.  Sneak and smart, a great combination.  I don't see him ever being a star, but he will have a solid four years in Bloomington.    The key to the universe this year is defense.  We will only be as good overall as we're good defensively (I hope that makes sense to someone besides me).  

I hate him.  

First game day of the season.  I told my wife last night that it was like Christmas Eve with tomorrow (today now) being the first game of the season.  

I'm all in favor of the new emphasis on calling hand checking.  The game has become WAY too physical imo.  I just hope the hand check is being called as consistently in February and March as it is in November.     In theory, yes this new emphasis should benefit us. Physically we will be able to play D with our feet due to our length and athleticism.  I'm sure since they are so young CTC would tell you they still have a lot to learn about positioning and such.     I really believe that how good this team is or is not this year comes down to how good they are or are not defensively.  

1.  Can we put together 40 minutes of good play even if it is against weaker competition.   2.  As most everyone else has said, how much do we turn the ball over.   3.  Division of minutes and combinations of guys used. 

It confirms mine more than alters it. 

I'm getting  really tired of Noah's griping to the refs.  

Probably the same fans that trampled the Playboy model. 

The big one is tonight, Chicago at home.  We've got them twice in the next two weeks.  It's time to put some separation between us in the division early on.  Programming note:  the game will be on FSN IN as well as ESPN if you want to avoid the D-Rose love affair.

Since I don't think we'll spend a majority of the year ranked #1, be a one seed, or win the B1G regular season outright, I would have to say this season will be a step back.  That doesn't mean it will be bad, but by those standards it technically will be a step back.  

  Something tells me you could end up posting this exact same thing on a cold night in February.  Hopefully I'm wrong.  

I'm listening on radio because I'm having some trouble with the stream.  For those of you watching, HMP sounds like he is playing well and looking a lot better from the way Fisch is talking, what are  you guys seeing from him?

We're going to score in spurts, but we don't have the consistent offensive threats we had last year.  The question is can our defense be consistent enough to keep us in games when we're struggling offensively.  Can they create enough points off of turnovers to bridge the gap?

I'd say disappointing.  I don't think anyone was really hyping this team expect a handful of IU fans.  (Guilty as charged).  The schedule set up so well and we have not taken advantage of that.    I agree with JS, we're scoring enough to win but the defense is letting us down, and I put that on the coaching and not the players.  They may not be all B1G caliber players, but I don't think they're being put in positions to be successful.  

  No, it's all good.  I'm just old enough to remember the Channel 4 ( or 41 in my area) days when everything was on television.  That's all I meant.

I think T.Y. Hilton can be a big time playmaker for us. I'm not worried about him stepping up. DHB, on the other hand, is useless.

Obviously the big problem is the defense, but I have one thing driving me nuts about our offense right now. Could we please get the QB right from the beginning of the game? It seems like if we start Tre he struggles and the we bring in Nate and make a mad rush to catch up. If we start Nate, it's the same story, we're playing catch up. Like I said, I know the defense is the problem, but if we have the QB situation right from the beginning maybe we get one more score which wins us the game. I still believe Wilson is the right guy going forward, but Mallory has to go. If Wilson stubbornly stick by Mallory, then my opinion on Wilson's future might change. I wish they would have made a move over the bye week. I really am scared to see how many points O$U will drop on us. They have to keep winning big to try to impress voters to move up. That could get real ugly real fast.
