Lyons Township 2015 point guard Harrison Niego ranks among the best floor generals in the state’s junior class. Niego is a tough as nails point guard that runs his team, gets everyone involved, and knocks down jumpers. This past weekend he took a visit to Indiana for their Hoosier Hysteria activities. We spoke with him about how it went. “We arrived to Cook Hall and checked in to receive our credentials. After we walked around checking out the facility then made our way into Assembly Hall. After the event we sat down and were able to talk to Coach Crean and Coach Buckley.” What did he talk with the Hoosiers coaches about? “We talked hoops, how the summer went with the Lockdown, and about how IU is preparing for this upcoming season.” Niego discussed what impressed him during the visit. “The passion that Indiana has in general. Basketball means something in Indiana and to the fans. The program reflects that and they work hard to improve and win basketball games.” The junior point guard runs with a talented Chicago Lockdown on the circuit. http://chicagohoops.hoops247.com/index.php/2011-08-04-18-06-26/2066-harrison-niego-discusses-iu-visit

IU Women's Soccer Shoots for the Tourney
ccgeneral posted a topic in Other Indiana Hoosiers Athletics
Every week the IU women’s soccer coaching staff posts the Big Ten standings in the locker room. Underneath the eighth team there is a highlighted line — the cut off. Any team below that line does not qualify for the Big Ten Tournament at the end of the season. IU hasn’t made the tournament since 2007. The posted standings in the locker room serve as a constant reminder of the team’s goal: putting an end to that postseason drought. “We talked about as a staff that we need to make sure our goals that we have for this program are clear and concise,” IU Coach Amy Berbary said. “That just helps us out by being able to show a measure of our goals.” Junior midfielder Abby Smith thinks the newly added emphasis on the rankings has helped. “It’s huge just being able to see the line,” Smith said. “Above the line, that’s who is getting in. Below the line, you’re not. It’s good to just be able to see where we are each week.” Smith said the rankings act as a motivation tool. “It puts a little extra fight in us to know that we are still in the running to win the Big Ten and stuff like that,” Smith said. “It just gets to a point where we know we have to play every game our hardest to get the result we need.” Among the various rankings the Hoosiers have watched is the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI). RPI measures a team’s performance based on a formula that takes into account its winning percentage, its opponents’ winning percentage and the strength of schedule of those opponents. At first, Berbary said RPI was foreign to her squad. “They didn’t know what is was when I first got here,” Berbary said. “So we did a brief presentation on it. They all pay attention to it and they know it, and I think that helps drive them and has helped our season tremendously.” Now, the Hoosiers (10-2-1, 3-2) know they currently tied for fifth in the Big Ten standings, sit 49th in the RPI and are knocking on the door of securing an at-large bid. When the initial Big Ten rankings came out, IU was ranked last. That was bulletin board material for Berbary. “The second I got the preseason ranking I printed it off, highlighted it and I put it in the locker room,” Berbary said. “We had a meeting and I said, ‘This is where Indiana soccer is. What are you going to do about it?’” IU missed out on the Big Ten Tournament last year after losing the final spot in a tie-breaker to Iowa. This year, junior midfielder Bekah White said the Hoosiers want to pave their own path. “We are really just trying to create our own destiny here and make up our own faith,” White said. “We want to stay above that line and the RPI so we just can’t let it go by chance this year.” http://www.idsnews.com/news/story.aspx?id=94574 -

(2015) PG Bryant Crawford to Wake Forest
ccgeneral replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
IU and Syracuse was his top 2 not to long ago if he had to choose now. Bryant Crawford of Gonzaga Prep (D.C.) has long been a recruiting priority for Indiana in the class of 2015. The No. 35 prospect nationally according to the 247Composite, Crawford missed the July evaluation periods as he underwent surgery in June to repair a tear in his meniscus. That injury didn’t keep the Hoosier staff from showing up at his Team Takeover games or from coming to his high school when the recruiting period began in early September. “They were one of the first schools to come down when the coaches were allowed to come out,” Crawford told Inside the Hall from the USA Basketball developmental national team mini-camp in Colorado Springs last weekend. “Even though I wasn’t playing, they still came down there and talked to me for a little while.” The 6-foot-2, 179 pound point guard was recently cleared to resume basketball activities and said he expects to be 100 percent for the start of his high school season. “I just got cleared Monday (Sept. 30),” he said. “I’ve been getting in the pool and riding the bike and since Monday I’ve been getting in the gym and doing a little bit of work to get back into playing shape.” Before the injury, Crawford was playing his way onto USA Basketball’s U16 team that went on to win a gold medal in the FIBA World Championships in Uruguay. Despite missing time in front of college coaches in July, the IU target believes he got better despite not playing. “I definitely got stronger,” Crawford said. “From watching the game on the sidelines, I definitely saw things differently than what I would have saw if I was playing just looking at people’s game and looking at the competition that I’m going to have to come back to.” As a junior at Gonzaga, Crawford will take on a larger role as Kris Jenkins, a Villanova signee, has moved on to college. That will put more pressure on Crawford to lead, a challenge he is looking forward to meeting head on. “I’m definitely going to have to take a big leadership role and keep everybody involved in the game,” he said. “I’m going to have a lot of weight on my shoulders to carry my team, keep everybody with high spirits, don’t let anyone lose focus and just keep pushing the guys to get better.” With more than ten scholarship offers, Crawford will a strong list of suitors to choose from. Indiana’s diligence in recruiting him makes the Hoosiers one of the favorites at this point. “They’re one of the top schools, “Crawford said. “They’re still recruiting me hard and have been recruiting me hard since they first started recruiting me. It’s a definitely a great relationship (with Indiana), a positive relationship. With them, it’s not all about basketball. They check up on how I’m doing, how I’m recovering, how my family is doing and how I’m doing in school. “They want to get me back up on the campus. I feel like our relationship gets stronger and stronger.” When that next Indiana trip takes place hasn’t been set yet, but Crawford is already familiar with the campus as he visited in August of 2012 when he received a scholarship offer and again for Hoosier Hysteria in 2012. “I’m actually starting to schedule a few visits now, but I’m not sure when I’ll get back out there,” he said. http://www.insidethehall.com/2013/10/10/indiana-one-top-schools-bryant-crawford/ -

http://chicagohoops.hoops247.com/index.php/2011-08-04-18-06-26/2064-zion-morgan-talks-visit-to-indiana Indiana hosted a large number of prospects for their Hoosier Hysteria event on Friday night. One of the prospects from Chicago that attended was King shooting guard Zion Morgan. The 2016 prospect ranks among the best wings in the state’s sophomore class. We spoke with the talented guard about what he did at Indiana over the weekend. “When we first arrived on Friday we walked around the campus and we talked with students. Then we went to the gym and met up with the coaches on the Indiana staff. We talked to Coach Crean and Coach Buckley. They both said they were really excited to meet me and hoped I enjoyed the festivities planned. Coach Buckley told us what type of team they had and what they looked at in a player. After the chat with the coaches we watched Hoosier Hysteria. It was really exciting. Every event had the fans on their feet. After the events we met up with the other recruits and grabbed a meal with the coaches and just talked about what was planned for us in our upcoming high school seasons. It was really exciting and I like where the University of Indiana is heading.” What impressed him about the Hoosiers program? “I like how supportive and into the game the fans are. I also like how much the coaches showed love to them. Coach Crean kept saying they wouldn’t be anywhere without the fans. I also like how committed the coaching staff is on making the player the best that they can be. That really got to me.” Indiana told Morgan what they are intrigued by in his game. “They liked how I made everybody a better player on the court and how I get everyone involved on both ends of the floor.” The 2016 prospect is an athletic guard that can score at all three levels while being fairly efficient putting up buckets. Morgan rebounds well and is a tough on ball defender. He runs on the circuit with Chicago Lockdown.
