Done. Vic up by 524. - Orlando Sentinel Update for Round 2
  4. Coming into the 2012-13 college basketball season, the Indiana Hoosiers put together one of the strongest recruiting classes in recent memory. The two headline players in the class, Yogi Ferrell and Jeremy Hollowell, both had solid contributions in an IU season that ended prematurely in the Sweet 16 for the second straight season. While both of those players will be key contributors throughout the 2013-14 season, they will need the other highly touted recruit from that class, Hanner Mosquera-Perea, to take the leap and tap into his limitless potential. Last season, Mosquera-Perea was suspended for the first nine games of the year due to a violation of NCAA rules. When Mosquera-Perea was finally eligible to play, he made a limited impact. In the 20 games he appeared in, Mosquera-Perea averaged less than a point a game on a 39 percent shooting effort, and he also added 1.45 rebounds per game. After losing their lone low-post threat from last season to the NBA, Cody Zeller, it has left the Hoosiers with a large void to fill. Super recruit Noah Vonleh is sure to make an instant impact, but Mosquera-Perea will be a key to the Hoosiers' hopeful success. Mosquera-Perea is extremely athletic, and at 6’9", 225 pounds, he has the build to play in the post at the college level. As he exhibited in this year’s ,Mosquera-Perea has an incredible vertical leap, and he could see some time onSportsCenter's Top 10 due to his emphatic dunks. Mosquera-Perea is a raw talent and has a few things to work on before he can elevate himself into a household name. The first aspect of his game that he will have to improve on is rebounding. IU lost their three leading rebounders in Zeller, Victor Oladipo and Christian Watford. Mosquera-Perea is lengthy and can cover the space necessary to be a very goodrebounder. Last season, Mosquera-Perea was exceptional when it came to grabbing offensive boards; 14 of his 29 rebounds came on the offensive side of the ball. A frontcourt combination of Vonleh and an improved Mosquera-Perea would help transform IU into a juggernaut on the boards. The second aspect of his game he needs to improve on is his scoring. IU lost their top four leading scorers from last season, which accounted for 52.1 points per game of the team’s average of 78.6, which led the Big Ten and ranked third nationally. Taking into account the loss of Remy Abell and Maurice Creek, two rotational players who had moderately reliable offensive games, the Hoosiers lost 74 percent of their offensive output from last year. The frontcourt combination of Zeller and Watford alone averaged 28.8 points per game. Senior Will Sheehey and Ferrell will both see increases in scoring output due to their elevated roles, but other players will have to step up to fill the added void. Mosquera-Perea’s biggest problem last year was being able to handle passes thrown to him down low. There were multiple occasions while watching him where a pass would be delivered to him in the paint and he wouldn’t be able to get a handle on it, which resulted in turnovers. IU’s coaching staff has stated that they have worked with Hannerin the offseason to decrease this problem. Mosquera-Perea won’t need to put up superstar-like numbers, especially with the sharp shooting freshmen that are making their way into the rotation. A scoring average between seven to 10 points would go a long way in helping the Hoosiers compete in college basketball’s best conference. Right now, the Hoosiers are expecting to have a pretty good season, but the elevation of mid-level role players from last year, especially Mosquera-Perea, could ultimately lead to the addition of Indiana’s sixth banner. (2016) SG Malik Monk

http://www.insidethehall.com/2013/10/15/five-star-guard-malik-monk-talks-usa-basketball-indiana/ The 6-foot-3, 170-pound guard averaged 22.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game as a freshman at East Poinsett County High, but moved to Bentonville for his sophomore season. Monk’s older brother, Marcus, played at the University of Arkansas, which has already offered a scholarship. Baylor, Florida, Indiana, Memphis and Kansas have also offered. “They’re very interesting,” Monk said of Indiana. “I like the program and they wanted me to come to Hoosier Hysteria, but I was up here.” The No. 8 prospect in the 247Composite, Monk said he evaluates a variety of factors when looking at the schools who are recruiting him. When asked if the Hoosiers having two of the top four picks in the latest NBA Draft stood out, he confirmed that it’s a factor he’ll look closely at. “I look at that (the NBA) and the coaching staff and the teammates,” he said. “That’s most of what I’m looking at.”

    Max Hoetzel

About three weeks ago, Wilbraham and Monson (Mass.) Academy student Max Hoetzel was at study hall when his basketball coach, Chris Sparks, and Indiana assistant Kenny Johnson walked into the room. They came with a simple message: Indiana head coach Tom Crean was on campus, and he wanted to see Hoetzel work out. Crean and Johnson were originally on campus to watch Goodluck Okonoboh before he travelled to Ohio State and UNLV, but Sparks had convinced Crean to watch Hoetzel. After all, Sparks knew IU had needed a shooter for the 2014 class. And he had one in the 6-foot-7 Hoetzel. Sparks and Johnson had cleared Hoetzel to practice with school administrators by the time they confronted him at study hall. He then left for the gym and practiced under Crean’s watchful eye. It was the first contact Hoetzel had with IU’s coaching staff. “It was such a humbling experience, I mean, coach Crean is a big deal,” Hoetzel said. “But on the other hand, you can’t really think about it. You just gotta do what you do.” Three months before then, though, Hoetzel had no idea he would soon be talking to one of the top programs in the nation. An under-recruited forward, Hoetzel was going into his senior year at Calabasas (Calif.) High School with offers from Utah, Utah State, Pacific, Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount, Boise State and Davidson, among others. But then, Hoetzel had learned his parents were planning on moving to the Santa Barbara area. Instead of starting fresh at another high school, he decided to attend a preparatory school. He originally thought of attending Oak Hill Academy, but his AAU coach, Christian Aurand, recommended Wilbraham and Monson. After all, they needed a player at the small forward position this season and Hoetzel fit that description. Hoetzel announced he’d be attending WMA in early August, and since arriving in Wilbraham as a reclassified member of the 2015 class with the option of graduating in 2014 as well, his recruitment has taken off. “You always have to play at a high level at all times here,” Hoetzel said. “At Calabasas, I could sometimes go through the motions at practice and stuff. But you know, I’m really being pushed out here and it’s a good thing. It’s paying dividends right now. “I knew my recruitment might take off probably around when Florida started talking to me.” At WMA, Hoetzel has had the opportunity to take advantage of his “live in the gym” mentality. Since tearing an ACL during his sophomore year of high school and having a subsequent meniscus surgery, Hoetzel said he feels as if he has had to work extra hard to get to where he is now. He’s already improved on his biggest strengths — shooting, driving to the basket and his defense — and he’s also started to combat his weaknesses with Sparks’ help. “Coach Sparks has a lot of great workouts and he’s coached at the college level, so he knows what it takes,” Hoetzel said. “He really believes in me, so that’s also a great factor. When you have someone who really believes in you, it makes the whole thing easier. If you work hard, you get what you deserve.” “He’s a lot like a Chandler Parsons type,” Sparks said. “I’d compare him to Kyle Korver too, but that’d be selling him short on his athletic ability. He’s a great kid.” Though Hoetzel has yet to play in a single game this season, he has already received additional offers from St. John’s, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania. Florida, Iowa State and Harvard have expressed significant interest, and even Kansas has called Sparks recently to ask about him. But Hoetzel’s contact with Indiana has stood out. Though IU has yet to extend an offer, since the day Crean and Johnson observed his workout, Hoetzel and Johnson have exchanged texts each other “about every day.” Johnson has spoken to both Hoetzel’s parents. And Crean plans on returning to WMA to watch Hoetzel, possibly as early as this week. The Hoosiers are recruiting him for 2014, and Hoetzel said he would be ready for the challenge. “I would really, really consider it, especially since it’s Indiana,” Hoetzel said. “The past, the program, the coaching, I’d definitely really consider it. But it’s all about the fit. I want to come in somewhere where I can really play and exploit my strengths. If that does happen with IU, it will be wonderful.” Link

(2014) PG Tyra Buss to IUWBB

Friends and AAU teammates with Maura Muensterman who also committed. Here's a list of the 2014 Commits that i'm aware of. Indiana women’s basketball coach Curt Miller added another piece to his 2014 recruiting class on Sunday, landing a verbal commitment from Evansville Mater Dei forward Maura Muensterman. Muensterman, who’s averaging a team-best 24 points and 8.4 assists per game, was recently ranked as the top girls’ player in the state for the 2014 class. She’s also a Gatorade Player of the Year Three Pillar candidate. She recently missed seven games due to a sprained ankle, but returned to the lineup on Thursday and scored 19 points to help Mater Dei beat Castle, 70-47. Muensterman famously helped Mater Dei win the Class 2A state title a season ago when to knock off Fort Wayne Luers in overtime. Muensterman is the fourth player to join Indiana’s 2014 class, joining Michigan wing Jessica Walter, Ohio forward Amanda Cahill and highly-touted Illinois point guard Tyra Buss. It will be a reunion of sorts for Muensterman and Buss, who played together on the Indiana Elite AAU team last summer. Link
