(2014) PG JaQuan Lyle to Oregon
ccgeneral replied to All_Hoosiers's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Apparently CTC is in Eville and texted JL. Link Do the Hoosiers still have a shot at five star shooting guard JaQuan Lyle? I don’t know how much of a shot, but we do know the two stay in close communication, especially tonight. JaQuan Lyle recently tweeted out the following: That tweet was in reference to an earlier text that Coach Crean had sent JaQuan. -
To Xavier 11/1/13 The recruiting trail is heating up once again for Trevon Bluiett, a 247Composite four-star shooting guard in the 2014 class. Bluiett decommitted from UCLA last week, wanting to be closer to his home in Indianapolis. "He's a family-oriented kid," Park Tudor coach Kyle Cox said. "He wants his family to be able to see him play somewhere between 80 and 90 percent of his games." Cox said Bluiett was "very gracious and appreciative" of all UCLA had done but, "he felt like he was a Midwest guy." Since his decision, a bunch of Midwest schools have pursued Bluiett. Last Friday, Butler, Purdue and Xavier came to see him at Park Tudor. Butler had the home-field advantage, being less than four miles from the high school, and sent its entire staff. "That made a good impression on him," Cox said. Tuesday, Michigan State will come to see Bluiett at an open gym. Cox said that Butler and Cincinnati were hoping to come see him later in the week. Indiana and Memphis have also called about Bluiett. Cox said that Pittsburgh and Notre Dame have been in contact as well, while he has yet to hear from Michigan. Bluiett had a variety of offers before his commitment to UCLA, including Butler, Purdue, Xavier, Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisville, Michigan, Northwestern, Notre Dame and Pittsburgh. "It's some of the same suspects, and some new ones, too," Cox said. What will one of these schools get when Bluiett puts on a jersey next fall? First and foremost, they will get a tremendous shooter. "He makes all the easy ones, but he also makes a bunch of back-breaker, killer-type shots," Cox said. "Multiple scouts have called him the best pure shooter in the 2014 class." 247Sports Director of Basketball Scouting Jerry Meyer echoed that description. "Simply put, Bluiett is one of the top shooters in the 2014 class. I expect him to make a ton of three-pointers as a college player," Meyer said. "He has strength and size, and doesn't need much room to get off that soft jumper. He isn't an athletic slasher but he will score off the dribble with the shot-fake." "Defensively, Bluiett doesn't have the best quickness but he does have strength." Cox said that beyond being closer to the Indianapolis area, Bluiett is interested in a competitive strength of schedule and non-conference slate. He is also very keen of the academic programs of the prospective schools, according to Cox. Cox said that Bluiett will explore all of his options over the next few weeks and decide where to take some visits. Cox estimated that it would be about a three or four week process, with Bluiett being prepared to sign on the dotted line during the early signing period in mid-November. Link

CKW Likes His Team, and Wants Success for His Seniors
ccgeneral posted a topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
I would hope so Kent... I’ve been in the front row every time Indiana football coach Kevin Wilson has spoken the the media this season, and his behavior is a little bit different from what I saw early in his tenure. There was a two-year period when I lived in St. Louis and was only able to experience Wilson on television, so when I came back the difference between the high strung guy who yelled his comments into the microphone at the press conference announcing his hire and the guy who speak positively about his team regardless of recent results was stark. I asked a couple of guys I respect who cover the Hoosiers about the change after Wilson’s media availability Monday at Memorial Stadium. Pete DiPrimio of the Fort Wayne and Ken Bikoff do their jobs very well, and seem to be adept observers of behavior, so I asked what has prompted the difference in Wilson’s behavior during the time I was away. Both answered in unison, “He likes his team.” The inference I drew was that there was a strong mutual dislike between Wilson and the players in 2011. It was noticeable on the field during games, and so I wondered whether the mutual acrimony would continue as part of Wilson’s managerial style. That is hasn’t was clear not just through the assessment of DiPrimio and Bikoff, but in Wilson’s comments about what he likes and what frustrates him about his third team. Wilson is similar to a lot of football coaches in that he’s a nut and bolts guy who doesn’t allow emotion to seep into his media performance, but as he talked about his desire to see the seniors experience some success, there was a softening – a different level of humanity – in the way he spoke. Gone was the analytical strategist who talks in specific football vernacular. Replacing him was a man who admires the work of the young men he leads – a man who is invested in the success and development of those upperclassmen who are continuing to work harder than they are asked, and whose faith in Wilson has not yet been rewarded with the level of on-field success that he sees as a just end to their collegiate careers. I guess no combo package with Cliff Alexander. I kinda lost track of this kid when he "missed the bus" awhile ago. Probably even before that. -
A top ten prospect in the class of 2016, De’Ron Davis (Aurora) is a total package on both ends of the court. The forward from Colorado has a polished post game and a high motor making him a force in the paint. Along with his inside game, Davis can also stretch the floor knocking down mid-range jumpers with ease. Davis already has plenty of high major interest and also holds offers from Arkansas, Colorado, Indiana, and Purdue. Keep a close eye on the Colorado Hawk and stay tuned for more of the John Lucas Midwest Invitational Camp coming soon, from Scarberry Media.

Actor/Model. By Pete DiPrimio of The News-Sentinel Tuesday, April 16, 2013 - 8:12 am BLOOMINGTON -- James Hardy as model and actor. Can you grasp that concept? Can you see this 6-6 former Indiana University and Elmhurst High School standout hitting a magazine cover and then a movie theater near you? It's possible. Hardy has the Hollywood dream and opportunity, and now, just as it once was for him in football, all things are possible. “I want to be a chameleon,” he says when asked about what kind of actor he wants to be. “I want to be able to do them all -- action, comedy, romantic lead. I feel I'm a romantic guy already.” He smiles. “I'm going to say my prayers and give it all I've got.” Here is Hardy on a sun-splashed afternoon, working with kids as part of IU football's recent spring game youth clinic. He is lean and fit, as he was six years ago when he was setting school receiving records and earning All-America honors. He is 27 years old, which in most professions makes him young as you wish you were again. But the NFL ages you fast, and if you can't produce, you're out. Hardy, it seems, is out. He could never shake the hamstring injuries that cut short his career with the Buffalo Bills, then halted his opportunity with the Baltimore Ravens. He played in 16 NFL games for the Bills from 2008-2010 and totaled 10 catches for 96 yards and two touchdowns before being cut. While with the Bills he received the Ed Block Courage Award, presented annually to selected NFL players voted by their teammates as role models of inspiration, sportsmanship and courage. Hardy signed with the Ravens in 2011, but couldn't do much in preseason camp and was cut again. He tried the Arena Football League with the Arizona Rattlers and the Tampa Bay Storm, but injuries limited him there as well. “I've tried extremely hard to get my body right the past two years to get back to the NFL,” he says. “It just hasn't happened for me. Unfortunately, with the multiple injuries that I had, it looks like it's done for me. I officially retired last month.” By then his modeling opportunity had arrived. He lived in Los Angeles and a friend got him in contact with Sports + Lifestyle Unlimited, a 20-year-old agency focused on supplying models who represent an active lifestyle. It has offices in Los Angeles and Portland, Ore., and works with print, broadcast commercials, TV and film projects and more. “They wanted a meeting,” Hardy says, “and signed me on the spot. Now I'm getting paid to be in Los Angeles. The sky is the limit. I'll do the work. I'll put in the same hours I did in football so I can be successful in the next stage of my life.” This time, Hardy won't have to worry about balky hamstrings or punishing NFL defensive players, which doesn't mean the challenges will be any less intense. Hollywood crushes dreamers everyday and only the tough, resilient and passionate can survive. “This is a dream of mine just like the NFL was,” Hardy says. “The NFL didn't work out, but I've done a lot of things, learned a lot of things. I can pursue my dreams in Los Angeles as well as come back to Indiana to teach the younger generation how to do it, how to be more successful than I was at this level.” Hardy is taking acting lessons, a follow-up to ones he took at IU. He's done a few basketball commercials (basically playing himself) that he says likely won't come out until next year, and are geared toward websites. “There's a 12-month period to cut and edit, so 2014 should be my year,” he says. Hardy has had auditions (“Six in the last month alone”), and will do countless more. The roles are small, the projects are unheralded and the competition is fierce. “There are thousands of people going to these auditions,” Hardy says. “Unless you're with an agency, you don't really get looked at. It's like trying to make it in the NFL without an agent. “The agency finds the outlets where you can make money for yourself and for them, but it's up to you to go to the auditions and make your mark.” Hardy made a huge mark in athletics. At Elmhurst he was a basketball-football superstar, and remains one of the most prolific scorers in city history. He challenged for Indiana Mr. Basketball honors as a high school senior in 2004, and signed with IU with the intent of playing both sports in college. But the demands from those sports were too great, and his football potential too apparent. The world is full of 6-6 basketball players, but 6-6 athletic receivers have huge upsides. Hardy showcased that football upside. As a junior he ranked third in the Big Ten in catches (74) and receiving yards (1,075), and earned all-conference honors. He led the Hoosiers to the 2007 Insight Bowl, their first bowl appearance since 1993. He set school receiving records for touchdowns (36), yards (2,690) and receptions (186), and could have done more, but elected to give up his final year of college eligibility and enter the NFL Draft. He went in the second round with the No. 41 pick. The plan was to have a long, standout career, much as NFL Hall of Famer Rod Woodson (a former Snider standout) had done. Now he has a new one, and if it ends up closer to, say, the Rock, than Woodson, he can live with that. “This is difficult because all I've known are football and basketball,” he says. “For the first time in my life, I can't use my body to get ahead. So it's different. I have to evaluate myself, see what I can do to be great at. I'll take this entire year to focus on my craft.” Link
