  3. http://www.goupstate.com/article/20131023/PSPORTS02/131029835/1088/sports?Title=Lucky-13-for-Dozier 6-6 junior PJ Dozier of Spring Valley is one of the top players in the country in the junior class despite the fact he will miss the season while recovering from knee surgery. After offers from all over the country, Dozier has his list down to 13 schools according to his father Perry Dozier, a former USC player who is the coach at Spring Valley. That list is USC, Clemson, North Carolina, NC State, Louisville, Georgetown, Michigan, Kansas, Ohio State, Indiana, Baylor, Mississippi State and Florida. The Doziers visited North Carolina last weekend to watch practice. "Coach Williams has been down several times to see him," Perry Dozier said. Dozier might take a visit to Georgetown in the next couple of weeks. He has been to USC and Clemson and both are real players for him. "He likes both of them," his father said. "He loves the guys over at Clemson as well as South Carolina. Of course, he'd like to be close to home but his selection will be more geared towards what will be the best fit for him." Dozier will layout his five official visits in December. Coaches from all of the 13 have been in to see him. Dozier is doing extremely well in his rehab according to his father. "Roll the ball out there and he could do tremendously well." Last season Dozier averaged 18 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds per game.

  5. Well Done Ladies! The Indiana women's soccer team (12-4-1, 5-4 Big Ten) scored a pair of second half goals to pick up the 2-1 win over Purdue (8-8-1, 3-6 Big Ten) at the Boiler Soccer Complex. It is the first-ever win in West Lafayette for the Hoosiers, as they retained possession of the Golden Boot travelling trophy. Senior Shannon Flower tied her career high with 10 saves in the game for the Hoosiers and almost single-handedly kept IU in the game in the first half. Another senior, Rebecca Candler, took her turn in the second half, scoring the tying goal and then assisting on the game-winner in the 81st minute. "Purdue was fantastic and really won the first half by putting us under pressure that we were not able to figure out in the first half. Thankfully we were able to break their pressure in the second half by combining passes to create chances and we were able to execute the chances we did get to come away with the win." It was Purdue that came out of the gates firing, forcing IU keeper Shannon Flower to make a save less than 30 seconds in the contest. That would be a theme during the first half, but the senior goalkeeper was up to the task by making eight first half saves, many of them on dangerous shots that forced her to dive to make the save. Purdue was able to score one goal in the half to put the Hoosiers in a 1-0 hole going to intermission. But Indiana regrouped in the locker room and came out focused on the gameplan. They started to put pressure on the Purdue defense but struggled to put together the right combinations to get in on goal. Eventually, in the 69th minute, they broke through when Abby Smith took a pass just outside the box and put Rebecca Candler in on goal, and she drilled it past the Purdue keeper to tie the game at 1-1. For Candler, it was her fourth goal of the season and it was Smith's fifth assist of the year. Indiana did not stop there, as they continued to gain more and more confidence as the game progressed on towards the end of regulation. With less than 10 minutes remaining, it was Candler that would be in the middle of the action. Purdue was whistled for a foul 40 yards in front of their own goal. Instead of running a set piece from that spot, Abby Smith sent an attacking pass ahead to Candler wide open inside the box while the Purdue defense had their back to her. She dribbled in on goal and sent a cross in front of the frame and the ball deflected off Monica Melink and into the goal to put the Hoosiers ahead, 2-1. The goal was the third of the season for Melink, and her second game-winner, while Candler logged her eighth assist of the year and the 19th of her career. "Shannon kept it together on the defensive end and tried to stay as positive as she could in the first half when things weren't going our way," Indiana head coach Amy Berbary said. "And then Candler came up huge for us. She had a great finish to get us started and then had a very alert play on the free kick with Abby and she was then a great run by Monica (Melink) capped it off." The 12 victories are the most by the Hoosiers since 2007 when they won 13 games and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. The five Big Ten wins are also the most since 2007. With two more assists tonight, IU has 36 on the year to set a new school record for assists in a season, surpassing the 35 assists in 1998. Flower picked up her 21st win in goal, tying Ashley Davis (1996-99) for fourth place on the career wins list by a goalkeeper at Indiana. IU will return to Bloomington for the final regular season home game of the season on Sunday when they play host to Wisconsin at 1:30 p.m. ET. Senior Day festivities will take place before the game around 1:00 p.m., as we recognize eight players for their contributions to the program the last four years.

  8. BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana men's soccer team snapped a five-match losing streak in a big way Wednesday night with a 4-2 victory over Evansville (8-5-1) on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The win pushes IU's record to 5-9-1 on the season. It was evident Indiana had goals on the brain as Jamie Vollmer nearly gave Indiana a lead in the first minute of action. Femi Hollinger-Janzen played a ball up to Vollmer, and the speedy junior ran onto it past his defender for a 1v1 opportunity against UE goalkeeper Eric Teppen. Vollmer took his shot but Teppen came off his line for the block. The ball came right back to Vollmer, but his second attempt was high. With 25:08 left in the first half, Dylan Mares played a ball into the box for Hollinger-Janzen, but he couldn't get his whole foot on it as Teppen made an easy save. Indiana came right back and Harrison Petts tallied his second goal of the season to give IU a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute. The sequence began with a cross into the box from A.J. Corrado, where an Evansville defender cleared the ball out to the top of the penalty area. Petts ran onto it and calmly slotted the ball home for the score. Indiana went into the break up 10-2 in the shot tally, but the one shot-on-goal for the Purple Aces in the first frame required a brilliant save by Michael Soderlund as he pushed away a shot from Charlie Macias and managed to push the ball away from the on-rushing Evansville attacker. The Hoosier offense got rolling again when Vollmer played a ball back to Patrick Doody, who one-timed it into the upper 90 for his second goal of the season and a 2-0 IU lead in the 59th minute. Exactly a minute and 21 seconds later Andrew Oliver netted his first score of the 2013 campaign in the 60thth minute. Matt McKain picked up the assist on the play as his shot rebounded off Teppen, landing at the feet of Oliver who was all alone and staring at an open net. Another bench player joined in on the scoring act for IU when Kyle Sparks also tallied his first goal of the year, giving IU a 4-0 cushion at 75:33. A.J. Corrado played a perfect ball over the top where Sparks ran onto it and smashed it home. The Hoosiers would make it interesting in the final four minutes as Evansville picked up a pair of scores on scrums in front of the net. Tyrus Sciarra put UE on the board at 86:10 with his first of the year, then Macias took a shot that rebounded to Dylan Terry, whose fifth score of the season made it 4-2 with 2:40 left in the match. Indiana finished with an 18-9 advantage in shots, with eight of the 18 on frame. Evansville put five on frame as Soderlund tallied three saves in the victory. Corrado led the Hoosiers with five shots. Indiana's remaining schedule is three Big Ten matches, starting with a trip to Michigan on Oct. 26. Game time is 7 p.m. ET and the match will be shown live on the Big Ten Network. Link
