    IU Wrestling

Well Done Hoosiers! Four of 10 weight classes at the Michigan State Open featured a Hoosier in the finals, including a pair of IU champions in Taylor Walsh(157 lbs) and heavyweight Adam Chalfant. Ryan LeBlanc and Luke Sheridanalso reached the title bout, finishing as runner-ups at 165 and 184 pounds, respectively. No team scores were kept for the event. Walsh mimicked his Big-Ten-Wrestler-of-the-Week-winning performance at the Clarion Open last week, going 5-0 with a dominating four falls. The redshirt junior out of Cherry Hill, N.J., is now 10-0 with eight pins on the season and was ranked ninth nationally entering the tournament. Just two weeks into that junior campaign, Walsh is already knocking on the door of Indiana's all-time record books. His 29 career pins are two shy of cracking the school's top-10. Chalfant, also ranked ninth nationally in his weight class, made his 2013-14 debut Saturday. He came out with a bang, topping a pair of top-10 foes en route to his second career tournament title (2012 Keystone Classic). Chalfant preceded his 5-3 finals victory over #7 Mike McClure (Michigan State) with a second-period pin of #8 Jeremy Johnson (Ohio) in the semifinals. LeBlanc improved to 10-2 on the year with four major decisions. He added a pair of majors in East Lansing as part of a 4-1 performance good for runner-up honors at 165 pounds, where he was ranked 18th nationally this past week. Likewise, Sheridan put forth another lone-loss effort for the second straight week. He powered into the 184-pound finals on the strength of an overtime takedown, securing a 3-1 decision over #21 John Rizqallah (Michigan State). Sheridan then gave Ohio State's Ken Courts, ranked 8th nationally, all he could handle in a slim 6-4 finals defeat. Redshirt sophomore Eric Roach had a strong showing as well, victorious in six of seven matches. After dropping his opening bout, he ripped of six consecutive wins to reach the stand. Roach's season record now sits at 9-3. Additional multi-match winners for IU included Ethan Raley (2-2; 141 lbs), Neal Molloy (2-2; 149 lbs unattached) and Matt Irick (2-2; 174 lbs). Raley and Molloy each advanced to the championship quarterfinals before suffering their first defeats. In addition, three true freshmen competed in the freshman/sophomore division of the MSU Open. Kyle Springer and Chris Caton both entered the 133-pound bracket and found success. Springer, the runner-up, began with three straight major decisions and four in a row overall to reach the finals. Meanwhile, Caton had his hand raised after five of six matches to also place at 133 lbs. University Gym opens its doors next Sunday (Nov. 17) for Indiana's first dual competition of the season. The Hoosiers host Duke and Cleveland State in a tri-meet starting at 11 a.m. Both IU duals will be steamed live online by BTDN on HoosiersTV at IUHoosiers.com. Link

Hendo/Belfort up. Wonder if Hendo shows his age again here. His last few fights haven't been worth watching.

Looking forward to seeing Garcia. Heard alot about him,but haven't seen any of his fights. I started watching Donaire right around his first fight with Darchinyan. I think Donaire will use his skills and take this one again. Darchinyan doesn't come out with much of a game plan other than throwing wild bombs and leaves himself open to get caught again like last time.

    Let's Go Hoosiers!
  18. The Indiana men's soccer team got goals from Dylan Mares,Nikita Kotlov and Kyle Sparks en route to a 3-0 win over the Northwestern Wildcats (9-6-3, 1-4-1 B1G) Friday night at Lakeside Field in Evanston, Ill.   With the win Indiana finishes the regular season at 6-11-1 overall and 2-4 in Big Ten play.   Indiana was on the attack in the early going as Harrison Petts had an early shot that was saved, and a shot from sub Mares was just wide of the frame.   In the 23rd minute, NU's Cole Missimo sent his shot off cross bar, and it bounced back out where the rebound header from Joey Calistri was cleared off the line by IU goalkeeper Colin Webb.   Webb made his second start of the year in goal, picking up his first career shutout and first Big Ten victory.   Indiana took a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute with Mares' second goal of the season. The sequence started with a Petts shot off the left post that bounced back out to Femi Hollinger-Janzen. His shot was saved by NU keeper Zak Allen spilled the ball and Mares was there to put home the rebound.   Northwestern came right back as Eric Weberman got off a shot that Webb used a quick kick save to stop. Indiana ended the half up a goal with an 8-7 advantage in shot attempts. Both goalkeepers had two saves to their credit.   Northwestern had a pair of shots early in the second half but the IU defense, led by Webb, calmly cleared the ball out of danger.   Indiana's first shot of the second half gave it a 2-0 lead in the 67th minute as Kotlov one-timed a cross from A.J. Corrado off the underside of the cross bar and in for his fifth goal of the season. That is tied with Tommy Thompson and Femi Hollinger-Janzen for the team lead, while Corrado adds to his lead in assists.   Missimo again came right back after the goal with a shot that Webb had to go down to his right to block out of play. With 18 minutes to play Missimo had one go off the underside of the cross bar for the second time but luck was on Indiana's side as it bounced back into the field of play and was cleared by IU.   Indiana added a third goal in the 71st minute when Kyle Sparks tallied his second of the season. A bending corner kick from Corrado was cleared out, but Jacob Bushue got a head on it, getting it back into the mixer where Kotlov flicked it on to Sparks.   Northwestern and Indiana finished with 11 shots each, while Webb tallied six saves. Mares led the way with three shot attempts.   The Hoosiers return to action next Wednesday in the quarterfinal round of the 2013 Big Ten Tournament in Columbus, Ohio. Indiana has secured the No. 5 seed and could face either Michigan or Michigan State.   Link
