  1. Pretty good article on Derrik and his Dad.    http://atzionsville.com/2013/11/06/catching-up-with-rik-and-derrik-smits/   “He [Derrik] can become as good as he wants,” assessed one Hoosier Crossroads Conference coach. “He is getting better and better.”   That is wonderful news for the college recruiting crowd that is always circling overhead for potential centers. Derrik recently visited Xavier and Clemson, while Butler, Purdue, Notre Dame, Indiana, Tennessee and numerous NCAA Division I scouts have been following his exploits since his sophomore season when he led the Eagles in blocked shots while averaging 7.1 points. The younger Smits enters his junior season three inches taller and filled out to 220 pounds.

Rodger Saffold - New York Jets

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/11/10/rodger-saffold-trying-new-position-on-for-size/related/   During the offseason, Rodger Saffold wasn’t thrilled to learn that the Rams would be moving him to right tackle to make room for free agent arrival Jake Long on the left side of the offensive line.   Saffold is on the move again. Saffold will play right guard for the Rams on Sunday withHarvey Dahl out of the lineup with a knee injury. It will be an uptick in playing time for Saffold, who has been splitting time with Joe Barksdale at right tackle in recent weeks after recovering from shoulder and knee injuries of his own. This position switch hasn’t been met with the same lack of excitement for Saffold. “It’s definitely been different, but it’s also been a new challenge, which kind of makes things interesting,” Saffold said, via ESPN.com. “I think if I continue to take things the way I have been taking them and coming out and being aggressive, while still being inside, I feel like it doesn’t matter where I play.” Saffold is heading for free agency after the season and he’s almost certainly going to wind up signing a smaller deal than he would have if he remained at left tackle. His versatility could lead to a wider net of suitors, which would wind up working out well for him wherever he lands for 2014 and beyond.

  17. Well Done Hoosiers!  :fan: :hi:   12:16: Solid start for Indiana out of the gate. Super senior Sasha Chaplin with the first six points, freshman Larryn Brooks with six recently as the Hoosiers boost the lead to nine. Taylor Agler’s been good defensively. IU shooting 50 percent from the field. HOOSIERS 20, GRIZZLIES 11   6:51: Indiana steadily pulling away as it’s scoring on nearly every possession with offensive rebounding, 3s and some solid post work by Milika Taufa. Tabitha Gerardot now with nine to lead IU. HOOSIERS 34, GRIZZLIES 22   FIRST HALF 3:03: Both teams knocking down shots at an impressive clip lately, but Indiana still firmly in control. freshman Taylor Agler having a real nice debut with 3 points, 3 assists and 3 steals. Really reads the game well. HOOSIERS 43, GRIZZLIES 29   HALFTIME Well, as first halves of the first game of the season go, that was a pretty good one for the Hoosiers, who posted their highest scoring half of the Curt Miller era. And they did it with a balanced attack as eight players scored. Tabitha Gerardot, the grad student transfer from Valparaiso, and freshman Larryn Brooks shared high honors with 10 points apiece. Milika Taufa came off the bench to score eight, while Bloomington native Kaila Hulls had seven and Sasha Chapling six — the first six points of the game. Indiana shot 48.6 percent from the field, 4-of-12 from 3 and 8-of-12 on free throws. Oakland got off to a dreadful shooting start but rebounding to finish at 37.9 percent, 4-of-15 from 3 and 9-of-12 at the line.HOOSIERS 48, GRIZZLIES 35   11:35: Indiana has led by as many as 18 this half, but Oakland just sort of hanging around the last few minutes. Larryn Brooks continues to impress, up to 15 points, six rebounds and four assists now, the latest a dime to the cutting Kaila Hulls for a layup. HOOSIERS 59, GRIZZLIES 43   SECOND HALF 7:23: The lead is 19 as Indiana’s ability to score easy baskets has kept the margin a comfortable one. Simone Deloach a nice lift off the bench in the last few minutes with four points and five rebounds. HOOSIERS 65, GRIZZLIES 46   FINAL Indiana finishes with a flourish as Alexis Gassion hits two 3s and Karlee McBride another in a season-opening win. Larryn Brooks leads the way with 19 points, Tabitha Gerardot adds 14 as the only Hoosiers in double figures. Indiana shot 50 percent in the second half and 49.3 percent for the game. IU also won the rebounding battle, 50-30. HOOSIERS 85, GRIZZLIES 55   Link
