  1. Hoosiers win the weekend opener 8-3.

We took a quick 3-0 lead on a 3-run HR by Brenczewski in the 1st inning and added another in the 5th when Oliver scored on a wild pitch.  We added 2 more in the 7th on a Sefcik HR and another 2 runs on a Mitchell HR that made it an 8-3 IU lead and the final score.

We only had 7 total hits but 3 were HR that scored 7 of our 8 runs.  Brenczewski our only batter with at least 2 hits and he was our RBI leader with 3.

Keyster started and pitched 3 solid innings but fell apart to open the 4th.  Walked a batter, hit a batter, double, single and it was a 3-2 IU lead.  Tonghini came on and pitched 3 solid innings of 1-hit ball striking out 6 and walking none.  Risedorph pitched the final 3 innings giving up 1 run on 4 hits.

  2. Hoosiers take the weekend opener 6-5 in dramatic fashion scoring 2 in the bottom of the 7th.  With 1 out, VanBrandt doubled and Bassett drew a walk.  Andrews beat out a bunt to load the bases and Cooper drove in the tying and winning runs with a single to left center.  We had a total of 13 hits led by Copeland with 3 and Minnick, Andrews & Benson each with 2.  Cooper and Benson both had 2 RBI.

Copeland started but didn't have her normal stuff.  She lasted 4.2 innings but allowed 5 runs on 5 hits - 3 of them were HR and she also walked 4.  Montgomery finished up giving up just 2 hits and no runs.

Don't know that he's of any interest to us but grad transfer Alex Hemenway (6'4") of Clemson (Castle HS in Newburgh, Indiana) has portaled.    Hardly played at all last season but is a career 43% 3-point shooter.  Battled foot problems in 22-23 and maybe problem carried into past season accounting for limited minutes?

Apparently not his foot last season but some other kind of injury early in the season that kept him on the bench

  6. OTR Summer Jam 16U Standouts -

Sam Funches – 2026 – Team Thad EYBL

Sam Funches came into Summer Jam as one of the most highly touted players on the list and he dominated interiors in the 16u division all weekend. He put up 20+ points and 10+ rebounds in all four games. Funches has good size and physical tools at 6’10, far beyond most in his class. A lot of his points come off of dunks around the rim and second chance opportunities, but Funches also flashed the ability to step out and hit the three-ball this weekend. Funches already holds offers from 20+ D1 schools.
