IU Mens/Womens Swimming and Diving

Recommended Posts

Carson Tyler is the National Champion for platform diving. Quentin Henninger got 3rd.

Burns finished 2nd in the 200 fly.

It was a close fight between 3rd and 6th place. IU finished only 5 points behind Texas and 5.5 points ahead of NC State. Florida was only 6 points behind them. NC State was on fire today, starting by going 1-2 in the mile and their swimmer just beat Burns in the 200 fly. The difference was the diving.

Here's hos close it was: between 3rd or 4th in the team standings came down to less than 0.1 seconds in the final relay. If Texas had gone 0.05 seconds slower or IU had gone 0.09 seconds faster, then IU and Texas would've swapped spots in the final standings.

IU has historically had a lot of diving success (21 titles now) but Tyler was the first Hoosier to win a platform title.

lmao. Purdue apparently has a really good swim club while their real team scored 1 whole point at the NCAA Championship Meet (probably a diver). I guess having the best club team is better than having both suck.

Ahmed Hafnaoui takes silver in the 400m free (0.02 seconds from gold). This swim set a new African record and is #5 all time, less than 1 second from the WR. He'll be really good for IU (yes, I like to state the obvious). If he has a good transition to SCY (he does have a year of practice already) he can challenge for NCAA titles. I'm excited to see how he does.

Josh Matheny moves on to the finals of the 100m breast as the #6 qualifier.

Pretty good start for IU. It’s good to see Hafnaoui keep some of his momentum from the Olympics and Matheny get a shot on an international team.

I tried to watch but I don’t have a Peacock subscription.

Matheny qualified for the finals in the 200 breast at #6.

Finishes eighth. No medals but 2 events and 2 finals is really good. Great international experience for him and something to build on since he's still young.

Hopefully, he can use this to have a really good upcoming season for IU although LCM is quite different than SCY. He may just be a much better LCM swimmer than SCY. Finnerty was the opposite.
