OOF!  Yes, PUke, things can really get worse.

Purdue running back Devin Mockobee will miss the rest of his final college season after undergoing ankle surgery late last week, coach Barry Odom announced Monday.

Mockobee finishes his career as the fourth-leading rusher in Boilermakers history, with 2,987 yards, trailing Mike Alstott, Kory Sheets and Otis Armstrong, a College Football Hall of Famer. Mockobee also ranks in the school’s top 10 in carries with 630 and career 100-yard games with nine.

Sounds like Hugh just got fired or is about to today.

Not a surprise.  And as far as coaches go, not really a guy I’m gonna feel bad for given his history and style.

Update: It’s official.

How many teams in the SEC expect to be playing for championships and to be in the playoffs every year?  I think Vandy and IU doing very good seams to make a lot of traditional strong football schools a little embarrassed.

As much as I loathe little brother, that’s a shame. Mockobee’s a man. Walked on and hung through multiple crappy coaches. Nothing but respect for that kid.

Can’t believe he was only there 4 years. I could have sworn he played during Covid.

Mockobee came in right after Zander Horvath who was the same type of not terribly dynamic but effective player, but Mockobee is better.

Yeah, Mockobee is 812 through and through. I got to see him play during high school. I wasn't the least bit surprised of his success. Coincidently, the guy replacing him, Antonio Harris, is another 812 kid from the same county and a 'cross town' rival (although that rivalry has been dormant for years). To my understanding it's picking back up in 2026. A lot of similarities with paths, both preferred walk-ons.  I got see a ton of Harris play high school. Harris pretty much played wherever he was needed (WR, RB, QB,  and some FS).  Both guys were studs in high school and fit the Coach Cig mold of production over potential.

This ^^^^ .  I am continually laughing at the usual SEC pundits who keep pumping up the large number of wins against "ranked conference" opponents; frequently listing TENN among them.  Do they not realize TENN has yet to beat a team with a winning conference record?  E. Tenn St. (2-3), Syr (1-5), UAB (1-3), Miss St. (1-4), Ark (0-5), and UK (1-5).  WOW, too bad IU didn't whoop up on TENN this season so they could have another high quality win.  Sure, TENN has played GA, ALA, and OK but they have not managed a win over any of them and therefore should not be considered a "quality" win for any of those teams.  TENN = Rutgers this season.

IU with Notre Dame’s resume wouldn’t even be ranked. I think I hate them even more than I do the SEC. Though them getting into the playoff and IU having the opportunity to put BTA would be great.

While I'm in favor of anti-Notre Dame trash talk, Glensek's take is just is not true; while Notre Dame Dame doesn't have any wins over top ten teams, they have won some "diffificult games."

  1. Beat 6-3 Boise State 28-7
  2. Beat #20 USC 34-24
  3. NC State doesn't suck, and they trounced them.

And their only losses are by one point to #3 Texas A&M and by three points to #18 Miami on the road. That's a strong-ish resume - they are currently #5 in FPI for whatever that's worth.

It's not an IU resume, but then again, Notre Dame is not given the CFP love that IU has been given.

I’ll give them USC as a solid win, but NC State and Boise State blow. Both metrically worse than Maryland. Not to mention a 2 TD win that was a one score game for 3+ quarters over 1-8 Boston College who is behind 10 FCS teams in SP+. Firmly believe IU and many others would be unranked with that resumé.

I guess "difficult" is subjective.

Also, apparently I posted that ND has had some "diffificult" games, which is a completely diffiferent word and might be a diffifierent metric.

dif•fi•fi•cult

/ˈdififəkəlt/

adjective | english (?)

Definition: Not that hard actually, unless you’re Notre Dame, who stinks.

Example: Notre Dame’s schedule is diffificult. It allows them to have the facade of being good when they’re not.

Notre Dame in position to get in the playoffs despite 2 losses and a weak schedule simply because they're Notre Dame? Who would've thought it? Oh, right, I did. I'll go ahead and give myself a pat on the shoulder.

Like when they lost to NIU last year? I know they're 0-2 now but I think they still will probably make the playoff simply because the rest of their games are very winnable. 10-2 will probably get them in since they're Notre Dame.

Currently at 0-2? Of course. I'm not talking about if the playoff was selected right now but when it's selected at the end of the season.

They were also top 10 before this game where they lost by 1 point to a top 20 team. They'll drop a bit in the rankings but not too far. Win the next 10 games (very doable, their schedule is a joke) and they'll easily be in the top 12 at the end of the season. If they drop another one, they're out but I think they end up getting in. I'd love nothing more than to be wrong, though.

There’s a 0.00% chance that IU would be ranked #10 in the CFP with Notre Dame’s resume. It’s ranked where it is for one reason and one reason only - its brand. ND is ranked 8 spots higher than the two loss team that beat it, and it’s also ranked above the one loss ACC that beat the team that beat ND. I generally think the ACC is a joke of a conference, but ND doesn’t play a murderers row of a schedule either.

Frankly I think ND should be required to join w conference to participate in the CFP. Every year it plays one or two good teams (who it usually loses to), them a bunch of mid, and gets to hang in the mix because of its brand. We get to hear about how “Notre Dame’s on an X game win streak, no one in the country is hotter!” but that’s not exactly hard when you have no tough games after September ends. Teams in conferences will have years where their schedules break their way, but ND gets that advantage every year given its ability to choose all its games. Join a conference or get out, imo.

Ok, all of my ranting about BYU and their insane NIL and all that stops now, at least for a while.
