Yogi Ferrell - Buducnost VOLI Podgorica (Montonegro)

A buffet of Yogi-love (even the naysayer article can produce only "he's not yet the greatest of all time"):

“He’s on pace to have one of the greatest 10 days of all-time,” said Harrison Barnes, who finished with 24 points and a season-high 11 rebounds. “He’s just playing with so much heart, and offensively and defensively, he’s had some tough matchups, but he’s brought it every single night and the guys’ giving us a chance.”

Ferrell even stood his ground with Cavs All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving, who collected 18 points on only 7-of-21 shooting, and also had five rebounds, five assists and six turnovers.

“He’s very persistent (and) played good defense,” coach Rick Carlisle said. “He’s a guy that has the energy to pick up full (court) and chase a guy like Irving around.

“We gave him very specific instructions about how to try to make it hard on him and he really followed everything to a tee. He just made it tough on him.”

Irving hooked Ferrell and was charged with an offensive foul midway through the fourth quarter. On the ensuing trip up the floor, Seth Curry 916 points) poured in a 3-pointer to pad the Dallas cushion to 97-83.

With the Cavs bearing down and trying to save face, Ferrell drained a 3-pointer to increase the Mavs’ lead to 100-85. Form there, Ferrell forced another Cleveland turnover and then dazzled the crowd when he pranced to the basket and perfectly negotiated a left-handed scoop shot which provided the Mavs with a comfortable 102-85 lead with 3:53 remaining in the game.

More from the Mav's SB Nation site:

I am here for Yogi Ferrell

I still know very little about Yogi Ferrell. What I do know is that through two games, he’s averaging 14 points, 5 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 3 steals against two of the very best teams in the National Basketball Association.

It’s remarkable that he fits so well with what Dallas is attempting to do offensively and nearly everything he does comes within game flow. He’s played a whopping 74 minutes in the last 27 or so hours and committed only two turnovers. It helps that teams are a bit unfamiliar with him, but so are his Maverick teammates. That he either was in the right spot or found the right spot while running pick and rolls is remarkable in a way that’s hard to contextualize.

He reminds me a lot of Mike James. That will get me killed by some, but James came to a Maverick team in 2012-13 in need of someone willing to take big shots and run the offense. Dallas doesn’t *need* that, since Deron Williams and Seth Curry have been excellent, but no one is going to turn down another rotation guard willing to step in and mix it up. At bare minimum the young man has earned himself a second 10-day contract!

I can't think of a single player who I've so desperately wanted to succeed at the next level, than Yogi Ferrell. My all time favorite and maybe the most unappreciated Hoosier of all time. I remember wanting to pull my hair out when people criticized him. We are finding out this season just how good/valuable he was. Best of luck Yog's. We miss ya! :(

I've although thought he would be a nice fit in the right system. Mavs and Nets have been pretty good situations. He's a hard worker and he learned all 50 sets of the Mavs as soon as he signed, impressive.

His ability to dish, drive, shoot, and create for others will help some team in the league for years to come. His defense will continue to improve as he learns the tendencies of NBA players.
