Dr. Greg Bell was a member of the 1956 U.S. Olympic team and won the gold medal in the broad jump as it was called at that time.  He never lost a collegiate competition in the long jump, won two NCAA titles, and twice came within about an inch of Jesse Owens’ world record.   At the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, he won the long jump, becoming the first native Hoosier to be an individual gold medalist in track and field.

I've had the privilege to meet Dr. Bell and he is a fascinating man to hear speaking of his life experiences.

The Indiana track & field program is saddened by the death of former IU women's head coach Carol Stevenson.

Stevenson served as head coach of the women's program from 1980-89 where she coached two Hoosiers to NCAA title. The titles in 1987 and 1989 where the first for the program.

While at Indiana, she earned numerous accolades for her success with the Hoosiers. Stevenson was named the cross country Big Ten Coach of the Year in 1987 and went on to receive the accolade during the 1988 indoor track season.

On a national scale, she was named Coach of the Year for NCAA District IV two straight years, in 1987 and 1988. In addition to aiding the women's program, Stevenson had stints as president and vice president of NCAA Division I Women's Cross-Country Coaches.

After her time at Indiana, Stevenson served as the women's head coach at Purdue from 1989-93. After her time in coaching she went on to be the academic advisor for basketball followed by football. She retired in 2002.

She was recognized as a Master Coach by the USA Track and Field for her many contributions to the sport of track and field and as an educator of coaches.

Jaylen Castillo from Fishers, IN.

I am extremely excited to announce that I have committed to Indiana University. I could not have done this without the support of my teammates, coaches, and most importantly my mother. I cannot wait for this next chapter in my life. Go Hoosiers.

His specialty is 800M and I found this from a Feb. 2020 pre-season high school track preview:  Castillo has a PR of 1:53.88 which is not something to overlook. With competition like Sanchez, Castillo has a good shot to better that PR. Castillo did not have the best performance in the 800 at the state finals last year, ultimately taking home a 27th place finish in 2:04.40 which is no indication of his ability. He did split a 1:53 in Fishers 4x8 team and helped lead them to a 4x8 state title.
