Why don't people like Nike? Unethical business practices? Their current clients? Legitimately curious

About 20 years ago I got rid of my Nike stuff.  I think I only wore it because it's what others were wearing.  I play golf and some soccer.  Adidas has a much better selection and following in those sports.  Nike in golf is just laughable.

I haven't used much Nike stuff in golf, but I love what I have used.

Can't stand Nike equipment.  They've come a long way but they're still vastly inferior to good GOLF brands.  Nike went out and bought the biggest name in golf to try to bolster their brand.  He had to use a Titliest driver until they could make a decent driver.

Nike is way better. We need to switch to the Swoosh, and after hearing what all those recruits said, we should definitely make the switch. Michigan will also be allowed to wear the Jordan Brand for their basketball team.

Does Nike still use sweatshop labor? My memory may be hazy on this, but I think IU made some sort of pledge/agreement a while back not to do business with companies that use sweatshop labor.

I honestly kind of figured everyone uses sweatshop labor.

Adidas might, but I know they have a manufacturing facility in Indianapolis, so maybe there is some sort of loophole with where it's produced.

I did a quick search and it looks like IU's site is even a bit gray on the subject. It says upfront that they require certain basic rights. But farther down it talks about a certain percentage being produced this way, and a program to enforce that being put on hold.

So basically...

"We don't support brands that use sweatshop labor. Unless we decide to support a brand that uses sweatshop labor."

That's how you do it in big time collegiate athletics!

Given that info, I support the move to Nike.

There was a big uproar at schools across the country about this which was actually what gave Adidas a way in. Not sure what their track record with human labor rights is though.
