Interesting read about Coach Knight, Thoughts?

Recommended Posts

Coach Knight calling SMU and Cincinnati tonight. For the longest time I really believed he would come back; does anyone see it anymore?

I'm not going to say it will never happen, but I don't think Coach Knight's pride will allow him to return. He kind of drew a line in the sand on this one.

That isn't to say RMK was without faults and this or that.  I was never that outraged when he got fired.  It was surreal but the writing was on the wall with Zero Tolerance.

Well you should have been outraged. However the transition to a new coach might have unfolded, it couldn't have been worse than this 15 year debacle. lol

My brother-in-law's dad was a fishing lure rep in the 80's and 90's. Let's just say he had really good IU seats and kept Knight and company stocked with the latest and greatest. He also took them on quite a few fishing trips on the company. Rule #1 on the trip was no talk of basketball. Fishing was his peace of mind, basically his drug of choice to get his mind off of things. Rule #2 (and this was an unspoken rule) never start a conversation unless Knight starts it first. He learned this the hardway.

He gave my brother-in-law his tickets in '92 for the OSU game and I went with him. We had a convincing win that day where we played great. Then Todd Leary came in mid 2nd half and shot an unadvised 3-pointer. He missed badly and OSU went down and scored on the next possession. He was so enraged at Leary that he yanked him out and chewed on him the rest of the game. Everything did not matter except that Leary didn't follow his game plan. Perfection and nothing else!

I will never forget that.

Just curious, but for those who think it was time for Bob to go, how should the administration have handled that?

Phew! No idea! I suppose I would have tried to convince him to become the athletic director. Outside of this, I cant imagine how any other form of removal from the sidelines doesn't end with the current situation we have now.

It absolutely should've been handled differently.

No one will ever deny RMK had issues, his issues had issues. I'll admit I'm an unashamed and unapologetic Bob Knight fan, always have been and always will be, and I won't condone some of the things he did.

My sentiments exactly. I was a huge fan when I was younger. My dad used to half jokingly tell people when they came to our house not to criticize RMK or I might want to fight them. As I got older and grew out of my immaturity(a little, lol)I started to recognize some of his immaturity. He was, like many people,a complex individual. He had a LOT of good qualities but he had some pretty poor qualities also. I've often likened him to a child who doesn't get corrected and after while comes to believe that nothing they do/say it's wrong. If some of the stories I've heard of him blowing up at people(in particular the ladies in his office) are true they are shameful. If they were my mother or wife I'd have been very upset.
