Crean Against the World

Recommended Posts

The day Purdue is a must win is the day this program has hit the crapper.

I really dont get your obsession with beating purdue being or not being a must win. Imo there one of are biggest rivals so naturally u dont want to lose to the clowns especially in such epic fashion as last night. The biggest problem I have is to get beat at Ohio st and then show up to there dump and that is the effort u give? In my book u got to come out with a better effort in that situation.

It has been so obvious to me Crean is in over his head between the lines. He has the program, players, facilities, support staff, you name it to win consistently yet he can't make it happen. At some point in time you have to coach, make in game decisions, substitutions, and executions that none of his teams just don't do. I think they're prepared for each game, but at some point a game is decided by "the coach". Crean just is a horrible in game coach and last night is another example of this. We lose every close game, have no chance coming from behind to win, and lose games we are up in the final minutes. Unless we are clicking on all cylinders we know the outcome. Honestly, how many of you believed we were going to come back and win last night at halftime. That is Tom Crean's legacy at Indiana; not even the fans believe we can win. Please take Glass with you.

From the uncalled for comments and general disrespect Tom had for Fisch and Suhr to his constant "you don't get it" attitude in his post-game pressers, I'm at a loss. Tom, we all get you're the coach and it's not easy to answer questions after an ass kicking, but that's what you get paid millions of dollars to handle. I'm so sick of the post game pressers either deflecting blame to players or completely blowing off questions. If this is his attitude, he knows something everyone in Hoosier Nation does not and it's him against the world. This thread isn't about his in game coaching, but rather his inability to receive critique. Tom, you didn't have a game plan and if you did, explain what the hell you were thinking. Just answer the questions.

. It speaks VOLUMES that the fans are more defensive over their play by play guy than their Head Coach. Fisch is the man. He's meant more to Indiana basketball than Tom Crean could ever dream of. If Fischer were to retire tomorrow I'd be overcome with sadness. If Crean resigned tomorrow, I'd go streaking around my cul de sac. Seriously. Try me Tom. I'm begging you.

He let Don know he was on the headset and had been waiting 3 minutes already then to Eric S. by name and challenged a couple comments he heard while waiting.  One of those challenges was that Yogi was about the only Hoosier who brought it tonigh, etc.

Thanks.  I would be interested in hearing this exchange, is it archived somewhere?

Might be a little over emotional response.  If you can't see what coach has done for the program go back and look.

I know I know there are a hundred coaches in America that could do what coach Crean has done to rebuild IU because 'It's Indiana.'

Good chance if you mess around with the Tunein Radio app and try to bring the archive stuff in on the IU Hoosiers sport network. Heck I got the IU- Indiana State football game the other day.

I liked your post for the comment about being down at the half and having zero confidence we were going to make the right adjustments and make a comeback. The nail was in the coffin before halftime. I would like to know how many times under Crean we have been down by 10 or more at half and won vs how many times we have been up by 10 or more at half and lost. I think it would be incredibly lopsided and telling

As for basketball? I'm not sure he's done much to "rebuild" IU. From a performance standpoint, we aren't rebuilt. Far from it actually. Rebuilding Indiana would mean being the class of the B1G, birth right to the tournament, and final four appearances every 3-5 years. He's coached us from our lowest point to a point of stagnation and mediocrity. We had nowhere to go but up. I was thankful for him taking the job at the time and up until 2 seasons ago, I fully supported the guy. It's blatantly clear to anyone with our traditional expectations, that he's not THE guy. A man who cashes a $3.5 million dollar check every year and passes the buck of his deficiencies onto 18-22 yr old kids is a chump in my book. He's a megalomaniac. The way he talked to Fisch last night was gutless. Fisch has stood in front of bullets on his radio show for that clown. Fans who posed fair questions that needed to be addressed? Fisch stood up for him and deflected the heat. I hope he allows Crean to get blasted from here on out. CHUMP!!!

We see things slightly different.  I think we're in a position where in the next few years we could get an elite coach.  When coach took the job we weren't in a position to get an elite coach.  As for the deflections, I'm not in the locker room or privy to everything that goes on behind closed doors.  Personally, I would probably handle the situation as I have in the past.  However, I quickly learned that coddling only goes so far.  Is it okay for Yogi to call his team soft and not Crean?

You play with who you have. They beat Maryland without Hanner and Devin. Stop making excuses. Do you want to know how I know he had no plan? Because we kept driving despite being blocked 8 times by one freaking player. They scored 8 out of the 2nd half. Hartman was on Hammons. We made no adjustments to the man to man. We made no defensive adjustments. If you're not concerned watching us get absolutely exposed and dismantled, pass what you are smoking. Bringing up Cody Zeller? This fanbase is losing it.

That's cool how you know what adjustments are made during the games. Also really impressive that you have access to our game plans (or lack thereof). How much are the seats in the huddles? It's not excuse making. Bottom line is, we lost on the road. Big deal. Some of you guys overreact to a degree I didn't know was possible.

Certain players did not show up with any aggression/whatever word you want to use. I know, I know... it's on the coach to get them ready. For all we know he did. Doesn't mean we are going to win. You can have the greatest game plan in the world, but there are way WAY too many variables in basketball for that to really matter. It's about players and it always has been. Coaches don't win games. Coaches win practice. Players have to perform. When they do, Crean's coach of the year. When they don't, he doesn't know the game and is "in over his head." Seriously, do you guys not notice how wishy washy you are as fans? It's like you're in middle school getting a new significant other every couple weeks. Enjoy the process of freshmen and sophomores becoming players. IU is in GREAT position to challenge Wisconsin if some others can knock them off. They've only played 3 on the road so far.

The negativity is so counterproductive. IU basketball has become the Cubs. For Christ's sake, we have fans saying Don Fischer is more important to Indiana basketball. Last I checked he hasn't won a Big Ten title.

Purdue and Wisconsin are the only teams in the league, and there aren't many more in the whole country, where we can't survive by junking up defensively. Maryland and OSU are great examples. Against Purdue, they actually have the back to the basket game versus the others mainly just have defensive minded centers. Against Purdue, we had no choice but to help or give up a dunk every time down which put us into 3v4 and 2v3 situations. Not a good combo.

This was all fueled by atrocious shot selection/decision making on offense and a general passiveness on that end because it led to us not being able to set our defense. The margin for error with this team is very small. When they have adhered to the staff's game plan, they have played very well. I wouldn't want to be Rutgers.

When has Crean ever been coach of the year?

i have to disagree with this but I do get what u are saying. I know players make the plays but coaches are always going to b the ones held accountable at the end of the day. Great coaches seem to get there players to make the right plays at the right time. Is it luck? Who knows. I will say nobody on this board should know more than crean but we all have opinions that is what this is about. I wish I could watch iu and disagree with every stupid thing he does all the way to a national championship that is my dream. I hope we finish solid and make a good tourney run and I feel like crean did a good job this season. I think people being negative is fair after purdue because it was coming off a loss and u have to give better effort than that after a loss. Sorry for rambling lol
