Your basically replacing him with a freshmen though. Virtually guaranteed the defense won’t be as good.  And yeah the offense will probably be better. But losing Haarms already hurt their D bad and now this. Their offense might be a bit better but it’s going to be a lot easier to score on them.

Purdue fans are pretty consistently calling both of these defections addition by subtraction and that both were going to lose most of their minutes.  Painter always did well with that lock down defender so I think the Easter loss hurts them.

If you have two guys who are so bad that they are addition by subtraction both getting 500+ minutes you got real problems in that team.

Losing these two guys sets them back a year probably

They are now going to be relying heavily on freshmen if not in starting line up then their main bench. Remaining players aren’t great defenders and then freshmen off the bench.  They got by last year with their D they don’t have the guard play to really step up the offense that much.

As much as I hate to say it, I think it’s a better roster than last season and opens up more for Williams down low. Won’t have the experienced length of Haarms or Eastern but Purdue will probably be better than they were last year.

We will see thin up front and questionable guard play are huge warning signs.

You really only need one center in college basketball. And they bring in the infamous 7-3 white kid that Painter loves in Zach Edey.

So who plays when he’s on the bench or in foul trouble?  He only played more than 29 minutes once last year. That’s a lot of basketball

I would expect them to say that. Still, they can say what they want, having your only 2 Seniors transfer out for no obvious reason isn't a good look. I read that Eastern isn't even a Grad transfer- so will have to sit a year! That is motivation to bolt. Apparently his mom was a lively contributor on the Purdue boards too.

They appear to have some decent young talent, but not elite. A roster full of young guards and indifferent defenders screams "10th in the conference" to me.

That’s only 10 minutes you need from the freshman. And it’s likely Williams is in the 30-33 area like Swanigan was his SO year.

That kid is extremely raw. He probably would have redshirted if Haarms had stayed.

Let them wonder all they want. You don’t throw players under the bus. Especially ones from a recruiting hotbed like Chicago.

I don’t think Painter cares about that kind of stuff. I think he’s more worried about getting guys who will buy into Purdue than themselves.

And speaking of Purdue. Matt Painter threw out some HUGE truth bombs.

Wow! Telling it like it is! I like it. I don't know who else needs to hear this but surely there are some kids on every P5 roster who need that message loud and clear. Unless they want to play pro in Bulgaria of course.

Painter would be one of my favorite non-IU coaches if he didn't coach at Purdue.

There would probably be a lot fewer players with that mindset if the NBA would quit drafting on potential and inviting 200 underclassmen to the combine every year.
