Favorite IU BBall Shooting/Scoring Performance All Time

Recommended Posts

Ahhhh Good Question.  Off of the top of my head, I would say Tommy Coverdale at Notre Dame in 2000 where he dropped 30 on Troy Murphy and company.  This was really the first big game that Tom had while at IU.  Also, AJ Guyton at Penn State in 98, where he dropped I believe a career high 33 in an overtime win on the road.

That 2001-2002 team still holds a special place in my heart.  I've got the majority of our wins on DVD and i've watched the Illinois and Kent St. games countless times.  We had so many great shooters, and with skilled big men like Jeffries, Newton, and Odle it really stretched the floor and allowed for kick outs to our white boys with flat tops.  I loved that team.

Another great shooting performance was Steve Alford in the 1987 Final Four!

He was in a zone---had 33 in the Semi against UNLV and then followed that with seven three pointers in the Championship against the Cuse.

I think all of Alfords threes against Cuse were in the first half. Smart took over in the 2nd half!

Woodson had a prolific game the year we won the NIT. Knights teams were so well balanced these types of performances were few and far between. He usually had so many options and all of the players were very unselfish compared to the later Bracey Wright years. Creans 2012 team was similar with I think was 5 players averaging in double figures. That team will always be my #1 talented team that didn't win it even over the 75 undefeated team or the 93 team of Henderson, Bailey, Cheaney and Grahams.

Another great series of high scoring games were the Iowa--IU games in 1987 and 1988.  To me--it was Dr. Tom Davis'  best Iowa teams ever.

Iowa---ranked #1 won at their place against IU ranked #3 in 1987 ---they scored 101 points on us which was the first time anyone did that against a Knight team.  We returned the favor later that year and beat them in The Hall.  Iowa had UNLV down big in NCAA tourney and blew it---IU took care of UNLV in final four that year!

Then in 1988 they had Marble and Armstrong and company and we hung 116 points on them in The Hall on Senior Night---I was there and it was amazing---electric crowd and everything was falling that night! Great times!
