Movie Thread

Recommended Posts

I thought we had a movie thread here but maybe not.

We had a Freeview of the movie channels on Directv a few weeks back. I watched:

--The Hangover III. Actually better plot line then I expected and much less funny than the first two (also expected). The 30 seconds during the credits was the best part.

--Mama. Very bizarre but recommended horror flick. DVRed it on a whim as the brief description caught my eye. I recommend it.

--The Conjuring. I remember wanting to watch this in the theaters. Arguably the scariest movie I've ever seen (based on true story). Probably since my dad let me watch the Exorcist when I was 5. Lol Highly recommended. I believe it overtakes the Ring as the scariest for me. Only because the events purportedly happened.

I've got all 3 Hangover films on either DVD or Blu Ray (one is DVD I think, other two are DVD/Blu Ray combo pack).

I like getting the HBO free trial, I tend to use that to see movies I've missed.  Want to see the new Captain America and the Justice League movie that's coming out.  Kind of want to see the Batman/Superman movie that will have Wonder Woman in it (played by Gal Gadot from Fast 5).  Hollywood needs to do the right thing and give Wonder Woman a stand alone film.

Naturalhoosier, check out Martyrs if if you're into scary/horror movies .  I watch a lot of horror movies and very few freak me out.  Martyrs is easily the most disturbing movie I've seen.  I literally had to go walk around for about 2 hours after watching this film...just to clear my head.  I've seen the Hostel movies, High Tension, Rob Zombie's weird horror movies, Exorcist, etc.  None of them hold a candle to Martyrs.  This movie is on an entirely different level.  Be forewarned, it's not for the faint of heart.

Also, the film is French and has subtitles (so that notches the horror up already!)

nice. Have always liked those. The foreign version of Funny Games was good and creepy. High Tension was excellent. I'll check it out.

interesting. I've heard of that. Does it "feel" like a movie or a documentary?

I caught it on my last flight too, though I'd planned to watch it anyway because apparently Jon Stewart loves it, he had almost the entire cast on his show.

It feels like a movie, I mean, it is a movie, it's not the kid's actual life. The only thing that doesn't feel like a movie is it doesn't have a prototypical structure. There aren't acts and there isn't some big climax you're building to or anything. It's just characters and how they deal with real situations. I thought it was great. Not the type of movie I could ever get my wife to watch, but very entertaining and sweet.

I saw Tusk too.  My favorite Kevin Smith movie was Chasing Amy.  Good story, funny, vulgar, good comedy.

Tusk was very, very odd.  It kept me entertained in an odd, WTH is going to happen way.

I admit,I don't finish all movies nowadays, if they don't catch my attention after 30-45 minutes, I turn them off.

I finished Tusk...So there's that.

Supposed I should have made that more clear.  As the other poster noted, it is a work of fiction, but with all of the same actors over the 12 year span.  This is a work of dedication to a craft.

Just saw Kingsman: The Secret Service- totally loved it! Not for young ones (lots of strong language and more violence than any film I've seen in a long time), but action packed. Cool spy gadgets, British humor, and Samuel L Jackson! Instant favorite!
