The vid is a couple of years old and just how can you tell how tall he is from a video? Do you know how tall the other players are? Do you have video calibrated height eyes? Or are you just going out of your way to be negative?

Plans to visit IU and Oklahoma State in the next couple weeks. Has some decent offers outside of those two. Like someone (Jerry Meyer?) said recently... guys look a lot more attractive to coaches trying to fill out a roster at this stage of the game. 

 

He definitely seems worth it, given IU's lack of depth in the front court and the availability of scholarships. What's the worst case scenario? He doesn't pan out and transfers after a year or two. Best case scenario, he's a serviceable big man capable of giving some quality minutes in a reserve role.

Gonna go ahead and trust the guys who are paid to get these kids' measurements over one guy saying he looks considerably smaller than listed based on watching one video.

I wouldn't say he's 6'6", but I agree he didn't look 6'10" in the video.

That was my first thought. Unless he's playing against all players between 6-4 and 7 foot, he doesn't really stand out with his height. That said though it'd be nice to see if he can just come in here and bang in the post. We don't really have someone like that right now.

Not negative read again I said he had nice moves. Yes my eyes have been calibrated in the game of basketball having grown up a Hoosier, played the game a little, and graduated from IU. So my expertise gives my the opinion he's not 6'10" in the video I watched.

Just so you knuckleheads know, when you google this kids name, this thread pops up. So go ahead, keep questioning and whining about a kid who shows interest in playing for your Hoosiers when no one else seems to want to. Some of you would complain your free ice cream was too cold. Hope he commits.

I think what CCG pointed out has some importance to it. We talk a lot about the competition level of the recruits we're after. Meeks is a guy who has shown he has a lot of skill on the offensive end and can be very effective at the High Major level. Ja'keem is a guy who played against Meeks in practice everyday. 

 

I've never seen the kid play or anything like that so i cannot speak to his defensive abilities, but by the "level of competition" logic, which I believe holds weight, it could be important for us if he were to make it to Bloomington.

Let me see how close I can get to knocking this one out of the park. We can all agree HMP was highly overrated coming out of HS. With that being said I still think he can make a big impact over the next 2 years bc he has shown flashes. But while in HS he benefited from being super athletic and playing along side the guy I believe will take over the role as the best PG in the country these next couple of years in Yogi. He was able to get HMP the ball in spots he was comfortable with and they looked pretty darn good doing it and it led to HMP looking better than he actually was at the time.

So now look at Jakeem and compare him to HMP, bc I mean sheesh, that's what we're best at is making comparisons. It's too fun not too. Jak is a similar size as he's listed at 6'10 but looks pretty similar to a 6'9 HMP. Now he looks a little lest cut up, judging off 2 videos, and he's not the athlete HMP was. However, when you look at him sealing in the post, although it is HS, he seals his man, meets the ball, and then the footwork looks plenty good enough for a guy that will be rightfully considered raw. Seems like he tracks the ball well off the rim and has potential to be a solid rebounder. The expectations are going to be low for him and he will likely only be expected to defend, rebound, and set solid screens which are all effort based. Let's say in 2 years he has done about as much as HMP, but has shown flashes of capability. Would we really be that mad of he gave us that much and still had 2 years to get a lot better and make an impact? I can't speak for everyone but I'd love to have him and the possibility of him being good. With very few players left and even fewer with his size, I think it's probably one of our best choices.
