NCAA Tournament?

A fundementally sound big guy would be fantastic. Luke was exactly that. The less development needed, definitely the better with Crean.

Everybody keeps talking about the Northwestern and Nebraska losses hurting us, but our worst loss RPI wise is Notre Dame.

I don't think there are really any bad losses in the Big Ten this year because any team can beat any other team in the conference on any given night.

I think we're about 50/50 right now on getting to the tournament. This game against Minnesota is HUGE though.

Not only would it give us a quality road win that we are severely lacking, but it is also is a chance to beat out another team that the Hoosiers could potentially be vying for a final spot with in their only meeting this year with the Gophers.

My main concern, ultimately, is that our lack of absolutely anything in the non-con will screw us ala Iowa last season.

I agree.  The non con hurts.  The Minnihaha game is huge as a road win, as they are zone heavy defensively, and we need to prove we can win against it.  I don't believe the NW loss looks quite as bad now but, we need to go there and win convincingly.  In the future, looms Iowa, Wisconsin, OSU and Michigan.  I claim that if we win 2 of 4 in those, win by a decent margin in Nebraska, and win 2 conference tournament games, ending say 21-10 or 20-11 ????  It's a big maybe because of all the 2-3 were gonna see down the stretch and UW & UM are road games but if we can pull that off I don't see how they keep us out.  I say we can.

I don't know what this team is capable of really. We lose to dog teams and then beat top 10 teams. There's no sense in trying to predict the rest of the season. I just hope we get 5 more wins from somewhere plus a B10 tournament win or two.

I figured I'd throw out a blind resume for you all...

Team A: 14-6 overall record, 54 RPI, 2-3 vs. RPI top 50, SOS: 65

Team B: 14-8 overall record, 65 RPI, 2-4 vs. RPI top 50, SOS: 57

One team is considered in, the other is considered out. I'll let you speculate how much Strength of Schedule should matter in determining position in the tournament.

Certainly not a team I'd feel comfortable laying money on right now.  I totally understand where you are coming from on this, but I would not be so quick to call NW and NEB poor teams.  They have both proven tough outs to many of the B1G teams.  They beat us because they play 2-3 zone defense and in Northwestern' s case, that thing is so tight, If you placed a lump of coal inside the no-charge circle, by halftime you'd have made a diamond.  I do believe this team can win consistently and can play with anyone if that issue is addressed.

Personally, I would put in Team A. Not a big enough difference in SOS for me. And one less loss against the top 50. Just my personal opinion. No idea what the committee would do.

Important if you don't have it yes, but my experience has seen the committee place a much much higher value on conference record.  If we come out of this season with a winning record in the B1G, doesn't that make a below average non com schedule moot?

Oh, I get it now, sorry.

I'd go with team B.  Sounds like the difference between a power and mid/major

Call me crazy, but IF we do get into the tournament, I would really rather not play us if I'm on the majority of teams in it. We've proven that we can play with some of the top teams in the country and we play pretty good defense. I'm not saying we'll get back to the Sweet 16, let alone make a deep run, but we would absolutely be a tough out. This, obviously, is all dependent on us getting in.

I'd go with Team A. Like Hovadipo said there's not a big enough difference in the SOS and that extra loss vs RPI top 50 by Team B gave me the slight edge to Team A.

I would go with Team A mainly due to losing to one less team outside of the top 50.  Plus, they lost to one less top 50 team.  To me, the SOS is too close for those to overlook.  I am sure it is probably a mid-major so their SOS will only get worse.  We will have more opportunities to beat quality opponents.  At this point, can't disagree with them.

Are we Team B? If so I didn't know our SOS was so high.

Yes, we are team B. Our Non-Conference SOS is awful, but our in conference SOS is strong and it evens out.

Actually, LSU is losing by 10 right now to Georgia. Could knock them out for the time being.

I most certainly did not!  Thought it looked like a lot like the difference between a mid-major and power conference.  So, I picked B.  The fact that everyone else picked A, was purely coincidental.  Are there prizes?

I think you'll have to stick with bragging rights on this one.

The burning question is, was my pick right or wrong?  No wonder I never get prizes.  This has damaged my fragile sensibilities and I must now go meditate on the meaning of the cruel RPI.
